This will be a short one today...
TV:
Channel 2/KTVU had a hellish technical glitz on its 10 O'clock News; I was able to see what some friends had said was a complete TV cluster-phuck. Wow. I'm sure the back offices might be having meetings Monday as to what the hell happened.
*KRON: Infomercial-central. You gotta be kidding me? No, its KRON. Are you surprised? And when I tuned in late, some nitwit was "reporting" the "events" via Facebook. I'm not kidding. Like I said, its KRON.
KGO-TV- ABC Net gets high marks for sticking with the big story. And props to Channel 7 for its nifty late-night wrap-up.
KPIX: Swift, steady and nice work. Unlike ABC, CBS stuck with regular programming, (on the West Coast) until affs took over.
RADIO:
KGO: Karel happened to be controlling the mike and the "coverage" was beyond hilarious. Unintentionally. Believe it or not, Karel broke into network coverage with occasional opinion rants. To K's defense, some of the radio net's analysts were complete rumor-mongers, (they didn't know what the heck was going on and Obama hadn't addressed the nation yet) so we'll give him props there....BUT, to siphon off editorial riffs at the early stage of the news was out of bounds and inappropriate.
KCBS: Nice job. Mostly all from the CBS radio net staple of reporters and observers. ...A big shout to political analyst, (again) Marc Sandalow, whose five-minute summation on Monday's AM news block with Bunger and Leigh-Taylor was terrific as usual.
KNBR: I couldn't resist. I had to give a quick listen to the frat boys. They didn't disappoint...Loved the constant back and forths to the ex-marine, (as if we didn't already know that a Navy seal is a bad-asser)...Highlight: Krukow insinuating that bin-Laden's death "could inspire the Giants." Listen to the podcast if you don't believe me.
Patricks gut is proof Marine training last about as long as your last day in the corps!
ReplyDeleteKrukow-he's a nut. No hesistaion that Krukow would flat out lie to fans if the Giants tell him too. And I'm sure he's another big repub booster. Dishonesty for money or the Giants is not a sin, is his mantra. Yesterday he said some wildly bogus lie..than even Dave Flemming wouldn't agree with. Jeez,Kruk ..show some dignity.
Rich,
ReplyDelete415 Media's coverage was up to the minute also :)~

I was glad Karel was on KGO and I did not mind when he cut in with opinions during network coverage. I find it refreshing and entertaining (Michael Savage routinely cuts in during presidential speeches and it is absolutely hilarious). I kept thinking how great it was that Marty Nemko had been thrown off the air. Can you imagine Nemko last night? Perfect timing Jack Swanson.
ReplyDeleteyou want something that's really unintentionally funny - reading all the pompous comments. It really is a great way to start the day and always puts a smile on my face. Must be great to have all the answers, know what's wrong with everything, etc. The only thing is you'd think people like this would be busy living great lives solving the world's problems and wouldn't come off as angry know-it-alls. Either way, thanks - you all make me laugh.
ReplyDeleteDuring the CNN commercial breaks I switched over to FOX-Geraldo had to interrupt his recap of the Royal Wedding to handle the story. Took forever before any of Fox's heavy hitters showed up. Probably were all off on Sunday night. First to make an appearance was Greta Van Susteren, after about an hour, adding nothing to the pink tie wearing host. Their continued news scrawl on the bottom of the screen, full of misinformation was getting old. Even after details came out they were still scrawling "OBL killed by missile" etc.
ReplyDeleteThis morning they were bemoaning (Brit Hume) the 'temporary bump' that Obama would have in his popularity and that it would be short lived when American focus returns to the economy (which they will do their darndinst to do no doubt)
Heard some of Karel too, was very entertaining. The facts still got out. Made for good radio.
Please tell me Karel did not cut in during the actual address! I was in my car listening to Karel a short time before the address was supposed to begin (but an hour before the president spoke). At the time, Karel didn't know the topic of the address but made it clear he wanted his mic potted up so that he could talk over the prez. That made me switch over to XM for CNN coverage, which was excellent. I'm assuming that, once Karel realized what the address was going to be about, he changed his mind about talking over the prez. If not, that would, in my opinion, be outrageous and grounds for Getting Fired 2.0.
ReplyDeleteKarel didn't cut in while the President was speaking. In fact there was about near 30 minute Karel-less gap about 15 minutes before and about 3 minutes after Obama's announcement.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with you people? Listening to Karel? Why? He's a joke, a gay buffoon, with a simplistic child like mentality. He couldn't get arrested in L.A., where he used to throw his little temper tantrums on the air. But So Cal got hip to this act years ago and gave him the heave ho.
ReplyDeleteFox 40 in Sacramento picked the Fox NEWS feed featuring Geraldo, who was horrible as always.
ReplyDeleteToo bad KRON isn't carried in Abbottibad....bin Laden could have spruced up his compound with some of that fake lawn Henry Tennenbaum is always selling.
ReplyDeleteYou assumed correctly. Karel did not talk over the president.
ReplyDeleteKarel is a thousand times better and more entertaining than the ubiquitous Marty Nemko. The quality of Nemko’s show was so bad that he managed to get canned in the worst economy in 80 years. His ratings were awful and his advice was simplistic.
ReplyDeleteYou can tell Karel has matured, the biggest difference I notice is that he’s not as short with callers as he used to be and he does not interrupt guests as much as he used to. Keep up the good work Karel. You and Rich Lieberman are two of the most polarizing figures in the Bay Area.
Oh please. Your comparing a professional career coach, who did a weekly advice show, with a bozo who is supposed to be a professional radio host? His ratings? Sorry to tell you but ratings on a once a week 3 hour show are not a big deal. KGO has big rating problems, nobody under 50 listens to the damn thing. You need to find a hobby.
ReplyDeleteKarel may not be everyone’s favorite host but he’s a huge improvement over Nemko. Nemko is the Donald Trump of career coaches. He’s a shameless self-promoter (at least he stopped calling himself “life coach”). His boring demeanor is better suited for that obscure college station he’s on weekends. Nemko had no business being on KGO from the start. He couldn’t hold a candle to the other non-news KGO shows like: Money Talk, Len Tillum, Michael Finney, John Hamilton, Joannie Greggains, God Talk and the tech guru Leo Laporte. All of the other shows are much more informative and entertaining, Nemko was neither.
ReplyDeleteMarty success is based on the fact that he is married to money. I do not expect much from someone who is the star guest on Ronn Owens show.
