Bay to Breakers: Does anybody care anymore?

The Bay to Breakers is Sunday.

Yawn.

I thought, long ago, that this yearly waste-of-time lost its luster. I mean, how many times do we all want to see and hear the better part of a hundred thousand runners navigate the city, some of whom find it cool to urinate on people's lawns.

How cool and quaint, dude!

KGO Radio, still trying their damnest to attract the young demo is providing exclusive radio coverage. Maybe they'll post it on Facebook too.

There's rain forecast for the race on Sunday. Maybe God thinks the BTB sucks too.

  3. World's largest foot race.
World's longest running consecutively run foot race.
One of those 'Only in SF' type events, harmless fun.

The rain will just make it better.

    Why NOT cover it?

  4. Only a cool guy like you would find the B2B offensive.

  5. KRON is covering it-Radnich,Moore,Darya...and you know what that means-KRON's crack team is on the vandalism, graffiti, overflowing porta pottys ( I promise you, you'll hear the words porta potty a dozen times,at least)heart attacks, confrontations with police, and tickets for public drinking,nudity...then maybe KRON will report on who leads the race.
And why I dont watch unless I surf by coverage. It cant be a just a fun race if KRON has it's way. I think they will get Oscar Grants name in somehow.

  7. The number of comments to this post illustrates your point. Speaking of KGO, Rich you have got to find out who the hell is the voice on those KGO promos where the guy says: WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT. He really bothers me, whoever he is....

  8. When KRON covered it a number of years ago, it was a blast. You had a runner dressed as President Bush in a diaper lead the pack for about 10 seconds for the camera before the Kenyans took over. Gary and Pam's mics were left on and you heard Pam drop an S-Bomb live on air. We got to watch an uncomfortable Steve Raleigh interview a bunch of naked men at the finish line. And Jan Wahl, while interviewing people in costume, had the best line of the day...

Jan-"Who are you suppose to be dressed as?"
    Man-"I'm a fairy".
Jan-"You and half of San Francisco!"

    Classic!

That is what the "race" needs....more off the cuff craziness and the quintessential SF experience.

  9. The race peaked in popularity in the 1980's when running was real popular and also before the advent of sports networks giving B2B the kind of news coverage that was a BIG deal...but nowadays it really is boring.

  10. Does anyone remember Pam Moore swearing on-line during a Kron B2B TV event?

  11. Hey 10:18 PM,

The KGO the "We Need to Talk About it" Voice is a guy named Matt Anthony...I think he is from Cleveland. So does any one like this Guy?
