Wednesday Media Liners; 'Special Ed'; Loren; Sinkovitz and Kessler; Mathai and Scott Reiss

*Don't know Ed Chapuis, never met him and have no issues with the guy. Only know what I've heard from some current and past KTVU people and industry folk who say he's trouble. If he wants to dispute that, he knows where to contact me.

*I hope Rita Williams isn't next, but Williams is so good some other station will snap her up in a minute if that happens, (and it probably won't)

*The Christina Loren 'obsession?' No, she's just an extraordinarily pretty lady who can read the room, smile a bit, and do her thing. The pour louts who didn't get it? Get lost.

*Brian Sussman and Mr. Benner, ("Officer Vic") mimicked the Prez at Wednesday's 'birther' presser; I'm usually pretty tolerant of those who want to lampoon political folk, but Sussman and co. mocking was almost grounds of FCC inquiry. (Then again, the FCC has no juice these days anyway)

*A damn good Internet writer and quite the character: SFIst editor, Brock Keeling.

*Update on ex-PIX/CBS5 morning anchor, John Kessler: working free-lance for KGO Radio on the morning and afternoon news and looking for a regular TV gig.

*Ditto Tom Sinkovitz who will eventually land a gig because the best find ways.

*Give Raj Mathai time at NBC Bay Area. He's a talented guy who gets flack because he has GQ looks and hails from the sports desk. Knowing Mathai, (and I do) he's an up-and-comer who will eventually get proper cred as a solid news reader.

*Dear Scott Reiss: The Jim Nantz references, (by moi) are meant in jest. You can loosen up every now and then and try to project a bit of, oh, I don't know, deference? We get the idea that you work at corporate uber Comcast, where its suggested you tweet positive umpteenth times for the Sharks, Giants, and all.

*Jaymee Sire Update: better than Kim Coyle and Amy G, but about a furlough and a half behind Mindi Bach.

*Check Please on KQED's cheesy "Check Please."

*Dan Dibley: must have pictures.

*Damon Bruce is still fumigating the press box over his subbing for Jim Rome. Damon, please, seriously, if Jim Rome is your Ted Koppel of sports, then you deserve the hammer. (And the other 'hammer' too for that matter.)

*Hey, Jonathan Bloom: Congrats on leaving the abyss and getting out of local TV Siberia. Supposedly, according to my spy, KRON offered to up Bloom's pay--Bloom declined and is now off the medication he needed to work at 1001 Van Ness.

*No, Pete Giddings is not going back to Channel 7.

*Today's '7Live' Facebook/Twitter question of the day: When did you lose your sexual interest? Phantom cry from the audience: "When I started watching your shitty local show!"

*Gene Burns back at KGO Radio, (for the time being) and here's hoping for a speedy, quick recovery. I'm not going to get to giddy until I hear Burns on past the 90-day mark.

  1. "Check Please" may be cheesey, and it does showcase some of the bigger goofballs and dorks in the bay area, but the wife and I have found a few restaurant gems by regularly tuning in.

You should pick a side. Free speech Yea....or Free Speech Nay.

  4. This must scare Radnich..he was away for a week and I watched MORE with Urban than with mr.Las Vegas of the bay area. Byrnes though, made Radnich seem like polished genius.
Byrnes has a lot of money and can do whatever he wants.. and he constantly reminds you.

  5. I like 'Check Please', like Meyer at 10:02 I have also been turned onto a few places.
The pretentious guests are fun to watch too, especially when their restaurant is panned by another one of the guests.

  6. I heard some of Gene's show Monday night he sounded weak, not strong like he used to be. Hope he gets better.

  7. Count me in as a "Check Please" fan.

Here's to hoping that Sinkovitz and Kessler land solid gigs and that Gene Burns sticks around for a while. Thanks for the updates.

  8. Sinkovitz is such a pro I'm sure offers must be pouring his way. Problem is, with the media circus in the bay area does he really want to get back in the mess?? I love his professional style, such an outstanding presenter of the news and he has a great following, would love to see him on air again soon! He is the best anchor out there if he wants the job and lower pay???

  9. I listened to Gene Burns both Monday and Tuesday. I had tuned in expecting to hear Pat Thurston and did not recognize Gene's voice at first. It seemed to be weak at the start but got stronger as the show progressed. I thought he sounded fine Tuesday. As for substance, Gene was back to his old self -- with level and depth of discourse that have been sorely missed. Hope it sticks this time. And Kudos to KGO management for holding the spot open for his return. With Gene's height, he must be looking really trim at 173 lbs. JW

  10. Sinkovitz is the best of the best out there. A solid professional, great news presenter with a great following. With the media circus around town does he really want to jump back into the mess? I hope he does, albeit, I bet they won't want to pay him as much as he was getting before unless their ratings are so bad they have to! And they should, he is terrific.

  11. Is Sussman for real? Does anybody know? I'm relatively new to the market but understand he morphed from TV weather guy to right wing commentator, making me wonder whether he really believes what he says or just opportunistically found a more lucrative gig.

  12. All I read on this site is the greatness of Tom Sinkovitz and John Kessler, and they likely are great, nice poeple. I am sure they are. Let's get one thing straight, both of them do not drive ratings. I challenge you to look at the numbers. Since both have departed, I bet the numbers at their respective stations have remained the same. Same would hold true at a station that might hire them, there would be no big jump in the number of people watching. Care to argue against this?

  13. Let's start a new TV station with all the recent castoffs--- Sinkovitz, Kessler, Duckworth, McKay, Taft, Vargas, Humphries, Ramos... Then will you be happy, Rich?

  14. Kessler is better for radio where he can use his great humor and be outspoken. Doing serious news doesn't work for him anymore. You can't joke around and act silly like he does and is known for. His large following is because he was funny in the morning, but on a serious news show it isn't professional, won't work and being serious isn't what he is good at.

  15. raj is a tool, will never have cred
byrnes will never be good, just another jock with his hat on backwards
any other ex pro's knbr wana bring back?

  16. I totally agree with the person who talked about Sinkovitz and Kessler not driving ratings. Being a great pro has little to do with being hired these days, working cheap and ratings are all that matters.

  17. Gene sounded a bit weak on Monday night but is BACK! Yipppeee!!! Last night he was on fire and it felt like he had come home. He is the star of the Bay Area as far as I'm concerned. Good job to KGO for believing in his recovery.

  18. I hated Raj in sports, and he a lightweight who was in over his head when he was reading scores.

If you think those are GQ looks, you may want to visit an eye doctor. Babyface and hair product does not equate with GQ.
