um, KTVU wins big at 10 because they are the only one on at ten (not counting cw news at 10 - lame). I would be curious to know how they would do if they were at 11 or all of the other stations were at 10.
I cant beleive the sliver of difference between 4 and 11. One trys-and accomplishes- to be a pro news station, and the other KRON is like a public access cable production. KRON is old grandpa sports anchor and grandma "sweaters" news anchor Pam, with people who are brought in off the street and asked if they would like to be reporters? they get a free tape of the show as payment. I odnt get it-maybe 4 is easier to push on the remotes than 11? or that "San Francisco" still sounds prestigeuos over San Jose? A mystery.
I must agree with Anonymous 1:57pm. Sometimes when I tune in to KRON I have to do a double take because I don’t recognize the reporters or the weather people (the other day the usual big boob fake blond wasn’t doing the weather at 11pm—did she get sacked? Instead they had an uglier older version of her…). The lack of continuity must affect the ratings and honestly it looks like the production is run by high school freshmen…
By the time I get home from work I've already read just about every story online that gets covered on any of these newscasts. Not even the weather is worth making an appointment to watch.
Of the 11 PM newscasts, KGO comes off (to me at least,) as the most professional and informative. I have to think that the only reason KGO isn't #1 at 11 is because so many people watched their hour-long newscast at 9 PM, and didn't feel the need to watch them again at 11 PM.
KNTV seems to have gotten a little better recently while KPIX, with all the layoffs of long-time reporters, has gotten noticeably worse over the last year or two.
I'd really like to know the numbers on the early morning news, from 4:30-7am. I really think KPIX has died during these hours, after letting John Kessler go, but I would like to see the actual numbers.
I don't have cable and must use one of the digital converters. The only station that really comes in is Channel 11. I'd rather get my news from the Internet or not get it at all. There is something "low rent" about Channel 11. Besides, who cares about San Jose? When looking at the Bay Area, it's San Francisco first, Oakland (even with its problems) second, and then the rest of the area. Gee, I'd put Walnut Creek and Central Contra Costa before San Jose. San Jose is nice, but it's still the "sticks" despite attempts to fancy up its image. This is one of the problems with it trying to get a major sports franchise. Who wants to go there?????

ReplyDeleteHave you seen the NBC 11 morning show lately? It's gotten a whole lot better... If only they could lose the husband..
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 5:29 - KPIX for the most part is 4th and even 5th for most of the morning time slots. Yes, even behind KRON!
ReplyDeletefor the morning, its generally KTVU, KRON/KGO about tied, KPIX then KNTV dead last consistently
