OK, so it being nice and beautiful, I called KTVU weather guy, the esteemed Bill Martin for an explanation. You, Billo, what's going on, (Martin loves to surf, by the way, and he even sent me the picture of the famed Mavericks surf taken Tuesday)
Take it away, Mr Martin, (we spoke by phone) "After a very active Oct, Nov, Dec, the weather pattern has turned stagnant. We have gone nearly 20 days without a significant winter storm. The good thing is that most cities are still at above average rainfall for this time of year and in the Sierra the snow fall is over 150% of average. Long range models are not very optimistic for rain with some suggesting our next shot for showers will be in early February. Lots could change, but for now more sunshine and 60s."
Wow, don't tell me we're headed for a drought: Nah, said Bill, in fact there's a good chance winter weather could return soon.
"The surf has been hammering the coast the past month an indication that there is still plenty of winter energy left out in the pacific. With a new long period swell arriving in the next few days there is a chance they could get the Mavericks competition in Sunday."
Where else do you get weather reports like this? Thanks Bill, surfs up, dude!
