KNBR continues to ignore the Eastbay/Oakland; "Sports Leader" snubs nose at Raiders/A's
OK, we've gone down this road before, but the incessant wail of the so-called "sports leader" begs us to remind the masses that that self-anointed "50K-watt 'flamethrower", KNBR, continues to ignore the Oakland/Eastbay market.
How shocking. Of course this has been going on for years, but bears repeating.
KNBR, however irrelevant its become, pays little attention to the A's and the Raiders. Common sense dictates that if you're going to bill yourself as the "sports leader", that you'd assign a reporter to both beats or at the very least, make time to offer up a few weekly hours on each team.
WFAN in NY is the Mets flagship station, but it covers the Yankees and ditto WABC, for the Yanks, who don't ignore the Mets legions.
KNBR suits and their alleged on-air tonsils will argue that the Giants and 49ers are the only teams in the universe, Warriors too.
Every now and then Billy Beane will get twenty minutes with Barbieri and Tolbert, but the rest of the schedule is all-Giants/Niners and Warriors, to a lesser extent.
Bad News? Its the same-old tired formula from the Cumulus crumbs.
Good News? KNBR is devoid of any real cred and the only reason why it has any relevance left is to fill air time with inane morning shows, mid-day schlock fests with hired Rudy and the angry LSU alum, and real-estate seminars on the weekends.
Have a nice day.

Wait a minute! I've listened to only KNBR for years, and now Rich you tell me that there is a baseball team in Oakland. What? Since when? LOL
ReplyDeleteWith all due respect, the A's had 8,000 fans at the Coluseum last night...is KNBR ingnoring the East Bay Market or is the East Bay Market ingnoring the A's. Is this KNBR's fault, I can't even find the A's broadcast and they couldn't even keep Marty Laurie around so he took a job with the Giants. Don't even get me started on the Raiders. KNBR is the least of the East Bay Market's problems, first we have identify the East Bay Market....
ReplyDeleteWell said "Anonymous"... Does the local A's station talk Giants baseball? Oh wait the A's don't have a local station. :(
ReplyDeleteYup, you guys got it. KNBR talks more A's and Raiders than the Raiders and A's stations (don't even know what stations they are on anymore) talk Niners and Giants.
ReplyDeleteOf course those Mets stations are going to talk Yankees. Ratings.
Of course KNBR is going to cover more of the Giants. It is the Giants flagship station! Duh!
The A's need to get their act together. Stay in Oakland or get the San Jose thing done. Then invest long term in ONE radio station so people know where to find the games. BUILD your audience rather than bitch "Not fair!"
