Bay Area media Sunday; Sports notes, this and that; CCSNBA One-year anniv.

**Congratulations to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area for their one-year anniversary. The sports cable outlet has become the defacto sports network here in SF, with A's and Giants broadcasts, (in high def, no less) and its "Sports Central" and "Chronicle Live" telecasts have brought a much-needed local presence to Bay Area sports viewers.

**Speaking of sports, baseball is back, glad you asked. ESPN kicks off its Sunday night MLB package with, gees, what a surprise, Yankees-Red Sox.

**Both the A's and Giants open Monday evening, with the Giants at Houston and the A's at home to play the Seattle Mariners at the Coliseum.

The A's radio duo of Ken Korach and Vince Cotroneo is superb, with Korach, easily the most solid baseball pbp-man in the Bay Area; yes, that includes the Giants' multitasker, Jon Miller, who handles both TV and radio duties. Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper return to the airwaves, as does Dave Flemming.

The A's TV contingent returns with Glenn Kuiper and Ray Fosse.

**Much ado about nothing dept: The buzz coming out of Augusta for this years' Masters with you-know-who playing....Quick summation: His first tee shot will be seen by everyone on the planet, (figuratively speaking) he'll have a tepid press conf. later and everyone will cool down and the second day will be biz-as-usual. Just a hunch.

Season openers:

MLB: N.Y. Yankees at Boston, 5:05 p.m. today ESPN2

Giants: at Houston, 4:05 p.m. Monday CSNBA

A's: vs. Seattle, 7:05 p.m. Monday CSNCA

  1. I was very disappointed at the area sports coverage (or lack thereof) of the Cal Women's basketball team winning the NIT championship Saturday. The Chronicle gave them a 1/4 page on page 6.
