49ers pass political hurdles in Santa Clara vote; now the heavy lifting; Raiders share facility?-- media play

Now the hard work begins.

The 49ers and Jed York are quite happy now that they have a positive, a-OK on their new stadium plans for Santa Clara. The voters, (and about $4 million of 49ers money) have spoken.

They even have a new website for their future Southbay home.

Some basic questions:

1. The new stadium will cost upwards of $800-900 million. Santa Clara is contributing about $79 or so million. Let's round out numbers and say about a BILLION bucks, here or there. Where's the money coming from? Just asking.

2. John Madden said on KCBS he's happy the stadium deal got done, but expressed a bit of caution. (See question 1.)

3. Will the Raiders be involved in this project, perhaps to share the stadium and contribute to its financing? (I don't have the foggiest, but I do know the NFL prefers that suggestion, and the math breakdown makes sense for both teams--don't rule it out, trust me)

MEDIA PLAY and ANALYSIS:

The Santa Clara thumbs-up is a huge political victory for the 49ers and stadium backers. Again, the most difficult process now begins. 2014, (when the new stadium is to debut) is almost five years away. Who knows what the state of the world will be like and what state the economy is; (have you ever tried to borrow a billion dollars?)

The sports-talk shows will be gleeful and begin talking about the "49ers new home", etc. Caution: with the exception of those hosts who have a much more broader grasp on this subject, don't take these fellows seriously--they're more booster talk boobs and their perspective and interests should be taken to heart.

Should be an interesting five years.

KGO/ABC7 cancels "View From the Bay."

ABC7/KGO-TV has canceled its local talk- show, "View from the Bay."

The show featured some of KGO's more popular talent, (Spencer Christian, Lisa Quinn, Michael Finney,) but like everything else today, bottom line, the show, supposedly was losing mucho money, and at cash-strapped ABC, that's a no-no.

**Developing story...

Savage honesty; KNBR ignores Oakland sports; Niners stadium coverage; Bay Area media notes

*People ask me why I have "sucked" up to Michael Savage. Real simple, you may hate him and cringe at what he says, but he generally speaks the truth, or at least says some things that make total sense and nobody in this market has the courage to say, too busy worrying about pissing off the mainstream bosses who have zero pulse on  just what the hell is going on. At least Savage tells it like it is and whether you agree or disagree, you LISTEN.

And by the way, Savage didn't pay me a penny to say this, so if you dare 'go there, you ain't got nothing, but feel free to check. Please, go ahead, make my day.

**It dawned on my Monday night sitting in the Coliseum press box watching the A's-LA Angels, that no one from Knibber was to be seen. As irrelevant as knibber is, it would be nice if the so-called "sports leader" send one of their various enablers to cross the bridge and "report" on the A's, but that isn't on their ledger--Knibber only covers the Giants, Warriors and 49ers--the Raiders and A's are rumors on their playlist, which has now been reduced to Blood, sweat and tears, KC and the Sunshine Band, and a little Disco duck in between.

**Here's your 49ers/Santa Clara stadium election "coverage" Tuesday night in a nutshell: the assembled dim-witted masses with cameras will automatically conclude that if the stadium proposal is passed, (and it probably will) then, "oh boy, 'Niners have their new stadium and are headed to Santa Clara"; well sorry, but reality bites...the truth is, a ballot passage merely allows the franchise to move ahead with their "plans", those pesky little things, like financing about a BILLION bucks, dealing with the Great America people, land issues, infrastructure, those little ditties? So while you see the inane, dummy reporter acting gleeful with all the other gleeful 49ers celebrating in some Santa Clara hotel, keep in mind the hard work still lies ahead.

**KGO/KSFO Dick Morris deal: I mentioned on Monday that Dick Morris did the KSFO morning show, THEN followed an hour later on Ronn Owens' KGO show, which is not the usual formula with guest exclusivity on KGO...suffice to say, many a peeps were vastly pissed off to the max and a whole slew of meetings took place at 900 Front, and no, they weren't eating doughnuts, I'm told.

**The Helen Thomas story was largely ignored in the Bay Area press; albeit it did receive heavy play on the KGO talk-radio circuit. Curiously, only a wire-service story on SFGate was their responce; SF Appeal ignored it, ditto Internet counterpart SFist.com, too busy I guess showing their latest "Meanwhile, in Berkeley" picture or the latest wacky photo of the day. (No wonder they were just sold and are about to be outsourced--oops, take that "Mr. 2.0.)

**Hey, enough of the usuage of "Timmy" Lincecum--its TIM for gawds sake, not because he's been sucking lately, its just that "Timmy" is a 13 year-old student at elementary school--TIM is a pitcher with the SF Giants, got that, pencilheads?

Time to eat an omellete and drink more coffee.

Anatomy of the Helen Thomas story; began with Drudge/Michael Savage Show

The first remnants of Helen Thomas' bigoted, anti-Semitic statements surfaced on the Drudge Report, via RabbiLive.com on late Friday.

Soon after, syndicated, SF-based, talk-show host, Michael Savage devoted his entire Friday show to Thomas' remarks and was the first major media figure to call out Thomas and called for the White House to strip the veteran Washington reporter of her credentials.

Savage and his callers were outraged over Thomas statements and his reaction indicated that the story may survive the normally semi-forgetful weekend news cycle.

Not so.

On Monday, Thomas was scheduled to speak at a Bethesda, Md. high school commencement ceremony, but was soon asked not to appear because of objections to her remarks, and soon thereafter, her own speaking agency dropped her.

At that notice, it would only be a matter of time before Thomas would be out.

She "retired" on Monday, effective immediately

Dick Morris does KSFO before KGO; Helen Thomas 'retires

Dick Morris; ex-Clinton political guru and notorious toe-sucker now tonsiling for Fox News, was on Ronn Owens KGO radio Monday morning, blasting the Obama administration, (again), plugging his new book, and endorsing Carly Fiorina for the GOP Senate nomination against Barbara Boxer.

That's not the item.

Before doing the Owens' show, Morris appeared on KSFO with Brian Sussman in the 8 AM hour.

Normally, KGO is anal about IT being the FIRST outlet to have exclusivity on guests. Granted, KSFO is KGO's sister station, but are polar opposites in the political end, (KSFO is ultra right while KGO is more centrist)

By the way, since when does a "political commentator" on TV endorse a candidate? Even by Fox standards, that's a bit un-kosher...

HELEN THOMAS "retires"--

Truly shocking. I'm sure it had nothing to do with her hateful anti-Semitic diatribe.

Five of the Most Annoying People on Cable TV

They constitute a healthy amount of ego; they gravitate and cater to that growing legion of folks who make up the lowest common denominator; they have enormous, inflated opinions of themselves and seem to think that what they spout out, (usually useless bits of tedious minutiae,) will make the world go round.

Not.

They are cable-TV performers. I use the word "performers" because they perform; nothing more or less. Real "journalists" usually end up on C-SPAN and take calls from the "Democratic line"

Performers get paid millions of dollars and might get to mingle with Roger Ailes.

OK, this isn't a scientific study, so let's begin with the almighty one to five:

BILL O'REILLY: Too easy, I know, almost like tearing wings off of flies, but Fox News' Billo gets more annoying by the day. And he gets away with it too. For a guy who graduated from Harvard, you'd think there'd be a bit more bite to this dog, but no sir. O'Reilly's hour-long self-congratulatory mish-mash is an amalgam of boorish interviews with innocuous leftist has-beens; pious, pissed-off  patoons, (Bernie Goldberg); and weekly riffs with ex-leftie "comics" whose careers tanked, so they conveniently veered right, (Dennis Miller.)

Somehow, some way, O'Reilly is the most-watched tonsil on cable; another indication of the coming end of mankind as we know it, and I'm going to give you the last word on that one.

**GRETA VAN SUSTEREN: Another of the easy targets and, I mean, why pile on, but then again, between her claim to fame, (courtesy Orenthal James Simpson,) as a TV lawyer; her pointed and infamous participatory involvement into various murder cases, (Holloway in Aruba, for example) and her brown, toilet-paper kissfests with Sarah Palin, Van Susteren is way, way qualified to be uber-annoying, which she is about 99% of the time, but like Billo, her numbers are good, and in spite of occasional rumors she's looking to leave Murdoch's castle, she continues to droll on at Fox for the time being.

Oy vey.

ALI VELSHI: Who at CNN decided to make this miserable, pompous, bald-headed Canadien a leading voice? I mean, we already have Howie Mandel--isn't that punishment enough?...Velshi started out as a business reporter for the network, but some genius in Atlanta had the bizarre notion that Velshi would be great to be an occasional anchor. Why? Maybe its just because Velshi looks the part. He doesn't necessarilly say anything pertinent and his on-screen reporting amounts to nothing more than a shamwowish-type TV pitchman. Whatever.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Why is this man shouting? Seriously, if you could answer that question, you may just be invited to be a contestant on "Who wants to be a millionaire?...Matthews is a sort of Geraldo-lite; at one time, he used to be in the journalism club as an ex-political reporter for the SF Examiner and an congressional aide for the late Tip O'Neil, but then started appearing on the talking -head shows, and soon realized that shouting and screaming can be quite profitable, particularly if you had perfect white hair and teeth, and mingled with the elite white guys at the Bohemian club. Check please!

RICK SANCHEZ: OMG, someone please tell me this guy has pictures...He must! Sanchez' latest blunders at CNN are far too numerous and compelling to pontificate upon; suffice to say, he's beyond mere annoying--in fact, you get the distinct feeling that its all a joke and that he and the suits in Atlanta are IN on the joke. Why else, then, would they put up with a guy who makes idiotic statements about volcanoes and earthquakes?, (and that's just for starters)

Every time I see Rick Sanchez I feel better about my life, and that's saying a lot. Sanchez makes Ron Burgandy look like Walter Cronkite.

Helen Thomas Apologizes for Saying Jews Should 'Get the Hell Out of Palestine', (a little too late)

Veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas has issued an apology after saying in an interview that Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine.”

Thomas, a longtime White House correspondent who now writes a column for Hearst newspapers, made the comments May 27 after a White House Jewish heritage event.

She also said that "the 'Jews should go back to Germany or Poland."

A LITTLE TOO LATE:

Thomas' apology is hollow and disingenuous. Her reputation is shot and what she said simply is unacceptable.

I have been asked what those who condemn Thomas' remarks can do. My suggestion is to e-mail the White House website directly and click "Contact Us" and simply post your feelings about Thomas' remarks and what should be the consequences.

Also, you can contact Hearst Newspapers and post your thoughts. Thomas writes a colum for the media organization.

Follow this link to the White House web site and proceed.
