*Even with the addition of new anchor experiments, (Raj Mathai and Janelle Wang), KNTV, (NBC Bay Area), still is lagging in the local Bay Area TV news ratings. A large contingent of staffers are not that thrilled with a news director that continues to appear out of the loop and a constant tinkering of the newscasts over the past year has confused viewers.
Moreover, NBC's weak primetime schedule, (which in the past provided strong lead-ins is mired in third place). Short-term? Expect more of the same lethargy --long term? NBC and its O and O's and affiliates are banking on the 2012 Summer Olympics as a way to get the mojo back. We can hardly wait.
*Tony LaRussa used to do countless interviews with KNBR and its various tonsils, (most specifically, Radu and Ralph Barbieri) promoting his ARF, (Animal Rescue Foundation) charity. That is, until LaRussa, who just retired after his latest World Series win, had a falling-out with both hosts. The fiery LaRussa didn't appreciate Raddy's latest personal crappers and Barbieri's pompous 'tude. Guess who had the last laugh? LaRussa now plugs his ARF shows on mattress man, KGO's Ronn Owens.
*KTVU "Mornings on Two", weatherman, Steve Paulson, doesn't get a lot of attention, until now. Paulson is a nice and steady presence on the show and it's all about business, no innocuous chit-chat, just the info and is usually very reliable. He, Mark Tammayo, and Bill Martin are my favorites at Channel 2.
*Don't be surprised if KRON and Young look for a new home outside the city. The cost of even a minuscule new facility in SF is a fortune and even KRON, and Young, flush with a little cash, post BK, has limitations.
*There's word from a few industry wags that KPIX' Ken Bastida has a new contract, (his current deal expired on Monday). If that's the case, my bet is that the new deal does not equal the numbers, (about $300K annually), is nowhere close to the last one.
*Ladies in the biz, (and beyond), complained I didn't list any male SF TV anchor hotties. OK, ladies, go ahead and send in your favorites. I'll pub the best.
*It's not surprising that a certain high-profile local reporter is banging the wife of a certain news exec, its just that he's doing it with utter casualness. Be careful, young man. The other guy knows.
