There's a bit of a problem at
KPIX, (
CBS5,) actually more than just one...try a "
VJ" issue, plus a potential technical nightmare that could cost the CBS o and o some heavy-duty moolah.
According to some of my insiders, the VJ transition is going over at
PIX like a lead balloon: "
Some of the photographers have embraced becoming reporters, but others are actually avoiding training because they don't want to be on TV."
In addition, PIX's transition to digital has evolved into a very expensive blunder:
"
More and more video is being shot and edited on computers and dumped into a server. Apparently the company that sold KPIX the server insisted it would be compatible with it's current video & editing equipment. It's not & KPIX has been forced to spend tens of thousands of dollars on software in hopes of easing those compatibility issues. But it may be the station will have to start over & spend hundreds of thousands of dollars more on a new server."
