Source: Copeland to take over for Ronn Owens in September; Tim Montemayor offered Chicago gig; 95.7 The Game goes after the Warriors Rights; Tuesday Run-Down

Lots of talk on the KGO Front, (and not at 900 anymore).

The biggie, sort of: Brian Copeland, a fill-in host and late of KGO-TV's recently cancelled, "7Live", is poised to replace Ronn Owens as the 9 AM to Noon talker in September. In fact, a KGO producer is already telling people that he will produce the show. (Not Jared Hart, the lovely assistant PD who presides over some of the intriguing moves at the station.)

Owens contract is up in January and in it is a fairly hefty buyout clause; specifics on whether Cumulus will eat the rest of the contract or negotiate a deal with Owens, (namely, Owen's agent, Don Buchwald), aren't clear. Assuming, of course, that Copeland takes over in September. Nothing is etched in stone, but three different broadcast sources have told me this scenario and it has legs.

*A move that is all but done: Tim Montemayor, the current Sat./Sunday mid-day host has been offered a job at an FM station in Chicago and is, according to sources, ready to take the position. "Monte" is from Chicago and was most recently, a morning host at Sports-talkie, The Game, (95.7 FM)

*Speaking of The Game, a station source tells me the FM outlet plans to make a strong push to get the rights to the Warriors broadcasts after the conclusion of next year's season when their contract with KNBR is up.

Warriors head brass are none too thrilled with being third banana to the Giants and 49ers; in fact, a bulk of their games are often on 1050 AM, Knibber's little sister of the poor sister station on AM.

Currently, The Game broadcasts Oakland A's baseball, but given the A's current nosedive, that hasn't provided the means for The Game to make any potent penetration into the Bay Area sports radio domain. Having the Warriors rights wouldn't hurt.

**Correction: Apologies to KSFO--I incorectly stated they slipped in the recently released trends on Monday; in fact, KSFO was up, (unexpectedly, but given the Election, had a decent bump, particulary in the morning).
