Ronn Owens says he's staying put, but...

I asked Ronn Owens directly if he planned on staying put.

"Yeah, what would I do? I love my job." Owens is signed through 2013 at KGO and there's no reason to suspect anything otherwise, but...

**Several radio people tell me that Owens is all but out the door, given the fact that his longtime friend, Mickey Luckoff, is no loneger at KGO. Sure, Owens and Luckoff clashed, but it was Luckoff who hired Owens from Atlanta thirty-five years ago, (Owens began his KGO tenure in November, 1975) and both were considered KGO stalwarts.

**After thirty-five years and nearing his mid 60's, armed with numerous radio awards, (including the prestigious Marconi), Owens would retire. Sounds fairly reasonable, but he's still at the top of his game, maintains top five ratings, and still makes a ton of money for KGO.

**Citadel could offer him a buyout and move forward, right? There are those who insist Owens wants to pack it in and might be receptive to taking an offer from Farid and company. (He makes a shade over a million) I can't see Citadel going here, but I wouldn't be shocked.

**Another person familiar with the goings-on at KGO says now that Luckoff is gone, and others surely soon to follow, Owens staying there another three years is "extremely unlikely." There's other issues too, some a little personal, but for now, let's take him for his word.

KSFO's Sussman: "highest rated talk show in Bay Area?"; KGO's Owens? Not, (and he's right)

"Celebrated" ex-weatherman, Brian Sussman, now the host of the KSFO Morning Show made a visit to Washington Tuesday to speak before the ultra-right Heritage Foundation and plug his book.

So far, so good. Pretty predictable, actually.

Until you go to the Heritage web site to read Sussman's bio and book narrative and see this:

Brian Sussman was the San Francisco Bay Area’s most celebrated television science reporter and meteorologist for more than 20 years. In 2001, he joined KSFO-AM, where he is now the new morning host of the highest rated talk show in the Bay Area and the fourth largest radio market in the country.

The bio Sussman provided Heritage asserts his show is the "highest rated talk show in the Bay Area." Uh, KGO's Ronn Owens would beg to differ.

Owens was not amused, via e-mail: "UNBELIEVABLE, (Owens caps) Absolutely false, both in share and numbers 12+...Latest ARB book, came out around May 24."

Indeed Owens is the highest rated talk-show in the 12+ overalls and has been for several years. Sussman's numbers are from the theatre of the unknown.

As for his self-annointed most "celebrated" TV weatherman staus, a few of the "SussMAN's" ex-collegues at KPIX have another opinion, (Sussman left PIX in 2001) One notable figure in particular: "There is no rhyme or reason to what news management decides to do. However, I did know a weather reporter that left town because the climate did not agree with him."
