*Jack Swanson, operations head at KGO Radio since civilization began, most likely will be leaving 900 Front once Cumulus takes over sometime around Labor Day.
Swanson will most likely either retire or be asked to quit and take a decent amount of cash with him. He's from the Mickey Luckoff camp and stuck around only to keep a few more coins in his pocket and avert the eventual Titanic known as KGO these days.
How toxic is it? Two prominent reporters and salespeople were seen over at KCBS, presumably looking for work. Never too early to escape the abyss. And they're not alone.
Swanson has made some good hires over the years, but he was also instrumental in the re-hiring of Karel, one of the biggest jokes on local radio. Just ask around.
*Frankly, I'm not that interested in the 9-Noon sports slot on Knibber; I've written it because I'm constantly getting asked. It gets more tiresome and irksome, plain irrelevant-central. And the FM outlet is 100% rehash, recycled sandpaper that couldn't move the meter if it was smack right there for the taking.
Lots of empty, non-pithy voices angling to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. Good luck. I'm still hoping a local Charlie Rose emerges through the wilderness but I'm not holding my breath.
*Kate Scott is a present day example of the current state of terrestrial radio. A bland, vanilla, wafer with just enough creative pathos to fill your vacuum cleaner filter. I could give a shit whether she has a girlfriend, boyfriend, dates Seal or Lady GagGa--she's about as compelling as the line cook at the Millbrae Carrow's.
She's a mere work-cheap mouth that replaced another innocuous mouth, the local version of Opie currently tweeting his 7000th plug for the mishmash Entercom boobs.
Yawn. (Again)
