The Love Connection at KRON; Local Media gets too Giddy over Petaluma LL Story; Monday Media Notes

 

A few of my KRON moles have said the big rumor is that the morning diva known for her special attributes has moved into a house with the news director.

That's not a good omen according to one of the more name talents who says the natives have already started grumbling. Something about favoritism I hear and have heard in the past. This is not good, but the lovebirds are veterans and here's hoping their love connection bears, uh, fruit.

*The Petaluma little-leaguers was a feel-good story until a few of the local news people here got a little too gooey and went overboard in their on-line glee. Look, it's great that the kids provided a much-needed jolt of good news for the little town up north off 101. That's all well and good. But call me a grouch--I'm not at all giddy over newspeople acting as cheerleaders who used the Petaluma kids and their Little-league triumphs as a personal chest-thumping. It's called the epitome of disingenuousness and they need to be called out. The operative word is "phony."

*95.7 FM, 'The Game', has reshuffled its midday line-up, and while the product is far superior over Knibber's, there's nothing there yet to really shake things up. For that to happen, the station has to move its signal to a place where it can be heard throughout the Bay Area, otherwise, good luck.

*Gene Burns is recovering from his health woes and doing about as well as expected, but not expected to be back on radio anytime soon.

*The "Breaking News" salvo is not just a KGO-TV issue, but indeed almost all the other local stations are just as guilty. The sad thing is when there is legitimate breaking news, nobody watching really cares unless its big stuff. It's like a car alarm that goes off but nobody cares because how many car alarms go off and people call the cops? Exactly.

*Yes, let's 86 the ridiculous, "team coverage." It's an overblown phrase that should be banned from the airwaves. How about, "we have 'comprehensive coverage'"? Or we have "multiple reporters on scene?" --Team Coverage should be moved to the sports dept.

*Dear Gil Gross: Leave your wife off the air. It's a bit that doesn't work and that's not just me but a few thousand others too.

*Tom Tolbert and Ray Ratto on KNBR is fairly funny, informative and decent radio. Like many other of you folks, I too listened a few weeks back and enjoyed their banter. It was a far cry from Tolbert and Red-Bull lungs himself, the thoroughly awful and banal Eric Byrnes who somehow can't shut the heck up and thinks his shtick is funny.

*I'm a big fan of KCBS reporter, Doug Sovern. I've said so repeatedly. But trying to make news by playing some dumb remark by NJ Gov, the insufferable, so-called, "wise guy", Chris Christie, who said some dumb things about Jerry Brown at the GOP condo in Tampa is simply a waste of time. In the mean time, why is Sovern in Tampa to begin with? Uh, talk about a waste of money.

*The new Pac-12 TV Network has a few union issues to be resolved before the party can get started and in this town you don't want your coming-out affair to be tainted by screwing with the union. Trust me.

KRON, I enjoy feedback from your interns and house guppies, but please, really, get your house in order before your Van Ness trolls start lecturing me.

Lovely that you're now hd--swell, infomercials in spectacular vision. Now if you can just get your management in order.

*The Monty guy on KGOne radio is not worth the effort. He gets "good guests?" In this day and age anyone will do a phoner on 50,000 watts even if 28 people are listening. Monty is a shouter. A screamer who thinks he's the 2000's version of Art Linkletter. He's a Paul Hosely special: he'll work cheap and appeal to the younger demo that KGONE thinks they are going to nail, (meanwhile did you see your cume, Hosely, Jared?) Yeah, right now, KGONE, you've essentially become irrelevant. You officially KSFOed KGO. Those call letters are mush. They're about as sanguine as a Brian Sussman lecture on clean air. And as long as I breathe, I will never back down and will always expose your trash and crap you've heaved upon the Bay Area airwaves. By the way, that NY female comic you threw a hundred bucks at to piss off the last 10 people listening? That's just bad even by your measly standards.

**MEDIA NOTES...Dana King is not only one of the best TV journalists, but a very nice, cool person, well-liked by her peers, her co-workers and colleagues. In today's biz, that says a lot...I didn't hear Christine Craft's first hour on the albatross station the other night, but her interview of one of Ross Mirkarimi's ex-gf's was supposedly revealing and compelling radio, which on KGONE means you're a sub on call...To relegate Stacy Taylor as fill-in and use a no-talent, unfunny, NY hack female comic should mean you have to watch Rosie on the Oprah Winfrey Network--Oh, wait....Radnich MO: I'm damn insecure if someone much better and cheaper is on my heels. Shall we go back in time? Try Pete Liebengood and Tom Nettles. And Gary, I can't figure out who kisses more ass, you or Krueger. And tell Larry that Baer and company are quite pleased with student Krueger's brown-toilet paper act with the Giants. Come to think of it, the callers know the difference too. They understand it's been called the "Felipe Alou-rule", and Krueger gets it. After all, 'yous all have family to feed....Kate Scott update: will tweet for past issues of Cosmo...Speaking of tweets, Dan Dibley, that phenomenal master of social-media supposedly wants to come back to the sports bleeder. I'd rather get water-boarded by Janet Reno...Tierney on 95.7 FM, The Game: They hated you in NY, sure, but at least you mattered, (somewhat). Now, not only do you not matter, but really, nobody gives a crap. See, Tierney, before you can shout and scream, you at least have to know the room. For god's sake, you've been here for about ten minutes and don't know the neighborhood. It's not your fault, it's the PD, who is now updating his own resume and looking at condo's in Dallas. And those ratings? Whew!, that's worthy of an appearance on "Chronicle Live" to scream with lcal yenta, Ann Killion...Jim Kozimor: talk about a guy who says absolute NOTHING. But he's clean, dresses well and knows how to say, "Thanks Chris", (Olivere)...KGO-TV and KPIX at 6 PM: Our first battle royale in some time. As long as you all keep it civil. And for whatever it's worth: A slight edge to PIX at 6, although Dan Ashley and Dan Noyes are sprucing up the numbers at circle7.
