Two of the Three companies that have destroyed ALL OF radio...They are SO BAD, that The Clear Channel people actually seem OK now. Oh, and let's not forget Americas DJ/Game Show Host Ryan Seacrest.
Um.. "Clear Channel" re-named its' radio operations as iHeart a decade or so ago; and is a strange choice for a champion of good radio. These are the guys that pioneered and then mainstreamed the idea of "re-using" jock show bits in automation, chopping their air checks up and playing bits between ads and songs on overnights and weekends. Ugh. Also, why pay 3 jocks when one jock can appear in 3 markets this way? Hardly live and local.
As someone who had 3 different on-air jobs “ eliminated” at KNBR, KGO and KCBS, along with numerous other folks, ,I was an eyewitness to the carnage firsthand. Cumulus and Audacy are TERRIBLE companies who have, as Rich claims, “ destroyed” Bay Area radio along with I-Heart. And most of the lame brained idiots I worked fur were embarrassingly under qualified for the management jobs they held. , But the cheaper, less professional ones who replaced them? Even worse! I’m glad I got to work in radio from the mid 1970s through 2020. It was an exciting time to be a part of a busy, important and vibrant industry. Now, whenever I turn on the dreck that is San Francisco radio today, I shake my head in dismay. Some of the rank amateurs, uber drivers and frat boys who we hear today would have been rejected by the college radio station where l worked in the early 1970s!
