How anyone in a position of authority thought that the pairing of Mibach/Wong was a good idea. Who, in the Hell wants to be greeted by two scowling individuals at 10 O Clock at night?
KTVU Fox 2 should go after NBC Bay Area Audrey Asistio to replace Claudine Wong for 10 pm newscast. Audrey has been incognito mode for 5 half months now. Maybe NBC Bay Area & Audrey already have a buyout agreement in place and just waiting for her contract to expire. (It's a Similar situation as Betty Yu when she had to wait for her KPIX contract to finally join KTVU.)
I worked a long time n an on air position. I have no clue about the fascination with Betty yu. She is average at best. As for Claudine I worked with her. She is a fantastic reporter. Just fantastic. But she is NOT an anchor. She is too self conscious. Her smiles are forced. And she doesn’t trust herself enough to be her honest self on air. To me her and Monaco are unwatchable. Maybe they’ll grow into their roles. But I’m not interested in waiting. They are NOT main anchors which is one of the reasons I no longer watch ktvu. I used to be proud to say I worked at ktvu. No I’m embarrassed.
It really doesn’t matter whether it’s Claudine Wong or Betty Yu behind the anchor desk—neither one is going to move the needle. Debating between them is missing the bigger picture. Local news viewership is in a freefall, and swapping one forgettable anchor for another isn’t going to change that. No one is suddenly tuning in because Betty Yu is reading off a teleprompter instead of Claudine Wong. At this point, the only thing that might actually make people stop and watch would be putting someone like Margot Robbie or Ana de Armas behind the desk. Short of that? You’re just shuffling pieces on a board no one’s playing.
Nothing that KTVU has done in restaffing their evening news has given anyone a reason to watch them. The KTVU faithful may stay but new eyeballs will go elsewhere. It's just wildly average now. The glory days of KTVU being a news beast are over. Way over. Say what you will about Frank and Julie but they looked great and knew what they were talking about. People trusted them.
"Cold" is the best word to describe Claudine, while Julie Haener was warm.
