The KNBR/Brian Murphy "Contract" "Extension": Time for Bullshit Alert

12 comments:

  1. He was talking it up with Kuiper on the Morning Show today and how he can't believe he's "going to be around KNBR for another 4 years!" I thought you said they have no money, Rich? If the Giants don't renew and the Niners have another undersachieving season, the talent on KNBR especially Murph and Kopey Kopes are toast. Syndicated programming here we come.

  2. Murphy proves the theory that it's not what you know, it's how much a$$ you kiss. KNBR is a complete abomination.

    1. Considering how mendacious both parties are, this really comes as no surprise. Murphy, taking a page out of the Ron Owens playbook. Speaks volumes about character, or lack thereof.

  3. Such a douchebag. KNBR and this asswipe deserve each other.

  4. Maybe whatever prior “contract” Murph had ended and they gave him a new one with no raise to ensure he gets his golden parachute payout like Tolbert probably got when they finally booted his ass out. Surely not deserving though for either. Probably dad Papa has something similar of a “contract” but the nepotism kids and part-time Uber drivers are hourly paid like Larry Krueger and are dismissible “at will”. They will only get their last paycheck at best once KNBR is done/toast. Why this is celebrated at the station is bizarre. Bolstering this ass up can’t be good for morale for those paid squat.

    1. I agree! Plus, why mention this on the morning show let alone with Duane Kuiper during his morning call in show? After this season, Miller, Krukow, Kuiper are done as the Giants will probably go cheap on the talent with Carmen Kiew & Ryan Leong on play by play with FP Santangelo on color and maybe Javier Lopez or Jeremy Affeldt. Wow! How the mighty have fallen!

  5. Who even listens to this Marin County fool? His demographics are old white golfers and old shut ins living in So City apartments. Dude/bro .

  6. Not only is he an asskiss but he’s also a huge hothead. I used to work at KNBR and what I remember most is how bad his temper was. For his sake, and for the sake of those around him, I hope he’s learned to chill out as he’s gotten older.

  7. Rich I have a comment I just sent the following e-mail to the Athletics, maybe you have covered this incredibly awful announcer:

    MESSAGE TO A'S"

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?

She is wretchedly ill-qualified. Horrible to try listening to. IS THIS A JOKE? Sorry, but how did she ever get cast? She must have top level inside connections, and whomever got her in should be FIRED.

ARTICULATION? This should be fundamental to any professional announcer.

I really do wonder how upper management makes such amazingly brain-dead decisions.

Putting her next to the great Ken Korach is insulting beyond belief.
and I will tune out whenever I hear her cacophonous voice.

    1. I feel the same way about Dallas Braden. Yes, he brings some good insider info at times, but he's incredibly annoying, especially on TV, where everything doesn't require narration.

  8. Rich, this was one of your better rants. I was in stitches, laughing, and it got my morning started on the right track. I worked at KNBR for many many years under the ownership of Susquehanna Pfsktzgraff. . They were a good company and took care of their employees. We had a terrific crew; Frank Dill, Mike Clary, Pete, Franklin, Gary Radnich, Ralph Barbieri, Tom Tolbert and several outstanding producers who moved on to other bigger, more important jobs. I was lucky to work there with solid pros such as John Shrader, Steve Bitker and Kevin Radich. Pat Olson did all the dirty work behind the scenes, keeping Ralph out of trouble and dealing with management which wasn’t easy. Program Director Bob Agnew could be a pain in the rear, but he had passion and he was always energetic and positive. General manager, Tony Salvador was not a nice person, but he knew the business and was a terrific salesman and usually rewarded people who did their jobs well. And the rest of the staff? People such as Isabel Lemon,, Bob Sargent, Victor Nueva, Trish Kort and a crack sales staff. Terrific people. All of them. It was an honor and a pleasure to work there during those 18 years. I feel very badly when I look at what cumulus has done to KNBR and especially to KGO radio where I also had thd good fortune of working for six years after I left KNBR. Our broadcast industry, particularly radio has been downsized and marginalized because of the Internet, the iPhone and media consolidation. Deregulation was the worst thing that ever happened to radio and television next to the scrapping of the Fairness Doctrine which President Reagan scrapped in the late 1980s. But the iPhone was the final death blow. Radio is now pretty much irrelevant. Sharks games are not even on the radio anymore. Dan Ruzoniwski tells me that he is only heard on live streaming. The Warriors radio broadcasts aren’t far behind and so feel for Tim Roye, who dues terrific work. I grew up listening to the voices of Bill King and Russ Hodges and Lon Simmons. We don’t have those kind of people anymore with the exception of Jon Miller. Dave Fleming is one of the bright young talents, but he knows that television is his bread and butter. Again, you can’t have any regrets about working in the career for nearly half a century. But I feel for what other people feel have had to go through and I blame cumulus And these other companies, such as iHeart and Audacy for ruining legacy radio stations everywhere. They have , slowly strangling the life out of them ever since they bought out most of the profession and cumulus is the worst of the worst.

  9. Who calls the 49ers GM "Johnny" Lynch? Who calls the Giant's Mgr. "Bobby" Melvin? Nobody does. Except for that smarmy shitheel sitting in the morning KNBR morning booth, so high on the smell of his own flatulence, he doesn't even realize that he sounds like the giddy little jock-sniffing ass-kisser that he is. I really feel sorry for anybody that has to be around that guy. What a creep.
