MLB attendance increased by almost 10% in '23, but the Giants attendance only increased by barely 1%. I think the Giants have two issues - 1) the ballpark experience is among the most expensive in MLB, from tickets to food, to parking 2) the team is boring
So the lack of interest in baseball is mostly prevalent in the Bay Area, but aside from Marty, all of the KNBR crew aren't very sharp in talking about baseball. Honestly, I think baseball talk is moving away from terrestrial radio, as the baseball podcasts seem to be doing fine.
The Harmony fetish of Copey Dopes and Tommy T. is as low class as it gets. I wonder if the Twitch live shots show them getting aroused. Maybe those guys will sink to a new bottom with a stripper pole in their studio and make a lame attempt to go Howard Stern-like from his hey day. You are right about their callers; some all the way out there in Vacaville and beyond like Sacramento where oddly some caller was a Warriors fan pitying himself being there. Must be hard to sell local adds when the fan base especially for baseball is in the boonies. So KNBR pays the 20-somethings there minimum hourly wages yet pays Murph, Tolbert and Papa how much? Why don’t they just fire them now before the ship sinks. I doubt Lund and Copes (despite his added PD title) are “making bank” but let them go to.
