KTVU Legacy Gone; Mibach to KPIX? Andria Borba Still Out; Dennis O'Donnell Basically Gone; Giants Should Call Ted Robinson; KCBS' Melissa Culross Leaving All-News SF Radio-740 AM; Seelig to Lose Another Veteran; Monday Pulse

MONDAY PULSE

HERE'S THE DEAL, folks.

I write and poke, yes, a lot at KTVU, it used to be a legacy station and now it's barely the birthplace of Romper Room. I care, wait, more I cared.

KTVU has been destroyed from a heritage outlet to a tattered, mismanaged, hodgepodge of mediocre-to-worse minutiae on-air with a bunch of dreck personified. Oh, you know who's favorite show on KTVU was? Romper Room, paging Mike Mibach.

*If Mibach were to end up at KPIX in the newyear, you read it here, first.

*One thing about Mike, he is a game-changer. He and Juliette Goodrich would immediately create buzz at 855 Battery but I'm just being me.

*Mibach isn't destined long-term at KTVU but it's all pretty much having to do with on-air aspects. He could help himself and slightly, Jules at PIX because they both compliment each other, plus Mibach needs a change of scenery. Oh, and he's NOT Ryan Yamamoto.

*It appears, according to my PIX spies, Andria Borba, the star reporter who has been absent the screen, has a far more worrisome issue (not serious) that will prevent her from being back anytime soon.

*Dennis O'Donnell has been off the air over a year and a half dealing with a serious medical issue--he will NOT formally return to PIX. They haven't announced it and DOD isn't talking publicly. In fact, CBS and O'Donnell have quietly met to go over a settlement package.

The last time O' Donnell was seen in public was at an impromptu gathering near PIX's studio, (with Ken Bastida and Liz Cook), late last year.

*The Giants' flirtation with Bob Costas as a mini-games TV guy is on the back burner--maybe money/logistics got in way, but if Larry Baer wants some good local talent, I'd hope he'd call Ted Robinson, who would make a great addition to the broadcast booth.

*A SCOOP at END: Melissa Culross is on her way out the door at KCBS, as I said the other day.

Culross and ND, Jennifer Seelig are apparenty in divorce mode--Seelig and her temper, temper, loses another KCBS veteran.

    2. So you equate how good reporters are with their body mass? Are you Donald Trump?

  2. As for Melissa Culross leaving KCBS I hope they can get a permanent duo for the AM Drive.

  3. Is Andria on maternity leave? She anchor choose not to talk or reveal about their maternity like Ama who never reveal her daughter pict online for privacy. As for Dennis, KPIX is famous with anchor with no words don’t appear on screen. Blame VDLC, I cannot believe another station down South would hire her.

  4. Giants should consider Doug Greenwald. Competent broadcaster and he seems like a good guy who has paid his dues.

    1. Poor Doug has that minor league sounding voice though.

  5. Ted Robinson is a nice guy. He is excellent at tennis, but he can turn a baseball game, even a football game, into a snoozefest.
In the meantime, who will replace Joe Starkey at Cal, and Bobby Fitzgerald on Warriors TV??
    Inquiring Minds want to know.

    1. where is "bobby" going? everybody and his brother has been wriitting him off for years, but hes still here.. and roxy bernstein should get the cal gig if he wants it, but hes too busy with espn and the pac 12 network, and doing some A's fill in work, dont know if he would want to give some of that up or not

    2. ...also when Larry Baer talks, Ted's lip's move.

    3. @unknown stuntman Yeah, I don't understand the hate/dislike for Fitz. I can see how he may rub some wrong or he may be too much of a homer for some, but I'd much rather Fitz call a Warrior game than some of these other TV play-by-play announcers for other NBA teams. A lot of them are terrible. Check out NBATV or NBA League Pass. Definitely makes you appreciate Fitz a lot more. Fitz is at least tolerable, and Fitz does his HW and has enough knowledge on both the Warriors and their opponent to get through the broadcast. Also, Steph likes Fitz, so Fitz is probably going nowhere as long as Steph is playing for the Warriors.

Plus, who would people replace Fitz with? Greg Papa is probably not coming back to call Warrior games again since he's more involved with the Niners and calling their games. Kevin Danna who calls the Santa Cruz Warrior games on TV, is awful. I don't think a guy like that could replace Fitz, he's minor league for sure. I remember some on here in the past have mentioned Ted Robinson, but I think baseball is his strongest sport for calling games. But yes, Fitz is the Warriors best option for TV play-by-play.

    4. @unknown stuntman I agree with you on Roxy Bernstein. The Cal football gig seems like it would be his for the taking since he is a Cal alum.

I agree on if his duties with the Pac-12 Network, ESPN, and the A's could conflict with that though... The thing is, regarding the Pac-12 Network, not sure if that network might go into the tank once USC and UCLA leave the conference. The Pac-12 Network could lose whatever juice it has with both of those schools leaving the conference.

That would still leave him with ESPN and A's duties should the Pac-12 Network disband or Roxy Bernstein decides to just do ESPN and the A's. It will be interesting to see though. I'm sure Roxy Bernstein would be interested to call Cal football games full-time.

    5. To listen to Fitz is to listen to lecture after lecture...No thanks.

His whole career has been based on kissing up to the right people...that's how he got started... see Papa, Greg.

If you were paying attention obvious answer for replacement is Tim Roy...he does "legit" PBP.

  6. KPIX would truly have another FUBAR hire if Mike Mibach entered their newsroom. Management can’t be that stupid or are they?

  7. KPIX has a winning team with Brian Hackney and Andrea Nakano. They have excellent chemistry. The ND should move the duo from the weekends to 5:00 and 11:00 pm daily. Send Sara Donchey to 5:00 pm daily and have Ryan Yamamoto and Liz Cook on the weekends. The less we see Yamamoto, the better for the viewer.

    1. They have ZERO chemistry and I know Hackney doesn’t care for her. He enjoyed his old pairing with Juliette Goodrich. Yes, he’s told me this.

  8. Roxy Bernstein would be an excellent addition to the Giants broadcast team. He is local. Ted Robinson would be great, but he is busy during the Olympics and major tennis matches. Bob Costas would be nice, but he probably wants a big paycheck. Doug Greenwood is also an option. Who knows!

    1. @6:31- Roxy Bernstein is more affiliated with the A's, and I think he still calls some of their games on occasion. It would be cool to have him call some Giants games though. The only thing is, Roxy Bernstein's voice and Dave Flemming's voice sound very similar. Some fans might get confused on who's who especially if Roxy Bernstein is filling in for Dave Flemming. LOL

I doubt Bob Costas comes here. Isn't he NYC based? Not sure he would be willing to make the trip out West multiple times during the MLB season. If Costas calls Giants games it feels like it would be similar to the one year Tim McCarver was calling Giants games back in 2002. He clearly wasn't a fit. Costas is a baseball historian and a purist. He would be a great guest on Marty Lurie's show, but would Bob Costas be down with calling a Giants game with all the analytics involved in Giants games now?

  9. Juliette and Mike together is a sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen. If he goes to KPIX he better not bring his jockstrap flirtations with him.

  10. Ted Robinson is an excellent play-by-play announcer and would be a welcome addition to the Giants. His removal from the 49ers so they could bring in Greg Papa was really distasteful. Papa is such a painful listen.

    1. I'll tell you one group of people who absolutely love Papa: bartenders in Danville and Walnut Creek. He drinks like a fish, tips big, and single-handedly keeps bars profitable. Ask any bartender in the area, and they'll have first hand stories about him. Papa regularly makes a complete ass of himself, but they've learned to tolerate it.

  11. As much as I’d love to see Mibach get kicked to the curb, I have little faith it’ll actually happen. Remember, Amber Eikel is the same person who thought it was a brilliant idea to replace Mark Ibanez with Jesse Gary, make Roberta “Farty Pants” Gonzalez the face of the weather department, and let Mibach do with his “jock talk” with impunity.

  12. Andria Borba is a babe! She is my favorite TV news reporter.

  13. I have to admit the Hackney/ Nakano anchoring on KPIX weekends wasn't going to work but there is actually good chemistry so I was wrong...

  14. "Juliette and Mike together is a sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen"
Umm....you don't know Jules, do you? She's a tough chick who would kick Mibach's ass.

    1. If that's the case, now I REALLY want to see Mibach do something stupid over there. He could use a swift kick in the ass.

If not with Juliette, he'll most certainly introduce the LT, Starrantino, Katie Nielson, and Betty Yu to his jock strap collection.

    2. Yeah, that’s what he meant…

  15. Regarding Ted Robinson, that's what I've been saying. It would be cool if the Giants could look into possibly bringing him back or having him fill in whenever Kuip, Jon Miller, or Flemming are off.

  16. Fitz is a sniveling weasel who sucks up to anyone who can help him. Fitz’s dad took Tony Salvador of KNBR golfing and during their time together on the links, convinced him to hire Fatty Fitzie. Then as soon as Fitzie got in the door at KNBR, he and his agent, a jerk named Bill Mandel suckup to Robbie Rowell of the Warriors and convince him to fire Papa and being in Fitz. Warrior fans have been saddled with him ever since. Roxy Bernstein won’t ever be hired by the Giants, nor will Doug Greenwald nor Ted Robinson. Roxy and Robinson burned their bridges with Larry Baer long ago. Doug Greenwald will never get more than the occasional fill in because his dad Hank feuded with Larry back in the day. The Giants now have some minor league clown they bring up
from time to time to fill in named Joe
Ratzo or Rizzo or something. The guy sounds like he came from
    Podunkville.

  17. I agree with you on Ted Robinson joining the Giants broadcast team. They collectively take so many days off that a fifth broadcaster seems almost necessary and his professionalism and knowledge of the game would add to the quality of the broadcast.
Speaking of Ted Robinson, if KNBR were to partner him with Tom Tolbert, I believe you would have a solid afternoon show that would be balanced and interesting radio. Tom is better when someone can co-host or even take the lead and allow him to interject his ideas. Without a doubt, that would be the best pairing on KNBR since Ralph Barbieri (rest his soul) was paired with Tom.

  18. Melissa wasn't up to the task of a morning slot. And her verbal tics were annoying. Holly Quan and Jason Brooks were a good team when Bunger left. And it's been a pleasure hearing Margie Shafer the past several days. But I, for one, will not miss the "thanks, as always" that seemed to start and end every interview.
