Speaking of Julie Haener, she's been telling friends that she might be ready to get out of KTVU --whether that means retirement (I doubt that) or a new change of scenery is anyone's guess but Haener is clearly missing her TV buds, Frank Somerville, (still, yes) and Mark Ibanez.
She'also under contract at The Firm for another few years but no contract is firm these days unless you have a personal services contract (Haener does but there's several out clauses) --she could leave and Fox could negotiate a buyout. There's no rope on Haener.
*One thing that may be dictating the possible Haener (and KTVU too) move: the continued ratings FREEFALL that is hitting the Fox O and O. It began in the Feb. 22 Sweeps and has since become an issue. The personnel changeover (with Somerville and Ibanez gone now) and overall KTVU's dismal numbers that continue to plague Fox2.The ratings were already dropping before the Somerville drama and Ibanez retirement and now are in total crater mode.
*Maybe taste does count: the woeful KNBR "Morning Show" has seen a market-share DROP to a record low. The "Murph and Mac" dreck (6-10 AM) has taken a 30% HIT and is now #18 in overall Bay Area radio market share and THOSE NUMBERS don't lie.
Trouble at Thee Sports Bleeder.
No Murph, you need to talk even more baseball. Just keep ramming the GIants down the listener's throats - they'll love it!
ReplyDeleteWhy has it dropped so badly, Rich, simply put... it's immature sports talk radio. Murphy carries the show and Macless throws in a comment every now and again. He brings NOTHING to the show.
ReplyDeleteHow about Haener and Ibanez to KPIX...we can only dream.
ReplyDeleteLove that idea!
DeleteRich, do you think that if KNBR started taking calls that it would help the ratings? The listeners aren't engaged so they don't care about just listening. Listeners want to chime in and have their say.
ReplyDeleteExactly right. We live in a social media world now where everyone spews their takes on reddit, facebook, twitter, etc..., plus live chat functionality with most sports podcasts. Not taking calls from listeners has accelerated their departure to team and sports-specific podcasts. If all you care about are the Giants, why would you listen to hours of Warriors chatter?
DeleteIt would be ok to talk a few callers but just not the same callers every day.
DeleteAre Charley and Humphrey available?
ReplyDeleteNo one will hire Murph or Mac when they are fired. Could you imagine them sending a sample clip of their morning show to a real sports radio station.
ReplyDeleteMurph and Mac suck. Juvenile show for quasi-sports fans. Pure junk.
ReplyDeleteHighly doubtful that Warren does anything to earth shattering at KPIX. He's a first time GM. Not gonna want to make waves. Unfortunately he's also stuck with the tragic Neerman morning show new hires for the next 3 years. So that's that.
ReplyDeletePat mentioning that Mr. C in Heaven passed away on Sunday. Great great caller to KNBR over the years.
ReplyDeleteThat was always an interesting assumption ... the "in heaven" part, that is ...
DeleteLocal radio is juvenile, with stupid sound effects and shouting 24/7. No one calls in. No interaction. All the topics are about covid, racism, gender issues, Trump. I just listen to classical now. Never going back.
ReplyDeleteYour demographic isn't exactly in demand. Bye!
DeleteIMO Murph carrie the show. Mac says nothing and plays lame sound clips. A change needs to happen. If they keep Mac. they will be 50th in the market, if there are even that many stations
ReplyDeleteAny word on KCBS Rebecca Corral? She's been off the air for weeks now.
ReplyDeleteFrank on air incident and drunk behavior really hurt KTVU high ratings and once trusted news, now hard to trust. Mike is not a bad anchor for prime time, Andre is better, more confident reporting the news. It just a waste putting Andre Mornings on 2 just like asking him to leave the station with no prime time spot.
ReplyDeleteBay Area radio is rubbish! I only listen to KCSM, KDFC and KQED. Sometimes KCBS just to laugh at the 5 minute commercial breaks and how badly that station is run.
ReplyDeleteMurph and Mac have had their run. Their show has basically been the same for like 16, 17 yrs. Not sure if people might be tuning them out or if they're just ready for a change in the morning hours on KNBR
ReplyDeleteSo have your comments Otis
DeleteKPIX is awful with Ryan Yamamoto as co-anchor and Vern Glenn as sports anchor. I do like Sara Donchey.
ReplyDeleteBring back Mac & Mutley.
ReplyDeleteScott Warren is a good guy with vision. Happy to see him stepping into this role.
ReplyDeleteMurph and Mac constantly turn me away by doing 2 things.
ReplyDelete1. Not taking sports.
2. Their political comments.
They turn me to KSFO often.
I like julie. She's pleasant to look at, but do not see her as a huge deal. Mibach is also meh.
ReplyDeleteSyndicated national show would be far superior to lame Murphy and boring Mac.
ReplyDeleteI stopped listening to KNBR when the pandemic hit. I was getting really tired of 3 people talking over one another trying to make THEIR point heard. I am back to commuting 4 hours a day and no longer can stomach KNBR, period. Give me Sirius and all the offerings on sports from KNOWLEDGEABLE hosts. Not stoners and their bud. By the was, Liz Cook rocks.
ReplyDeletePoor Murph and Crap.
ReplyDeleteKNBR never regain the magic it had with Frank Dill and Mike Cleary.
ReplyDeleteSteve McPartland was dud, and a forgettable run with someone before Murph who was partnered with (I forgot his name).
Murph and useless Mac, I wish would shut up about pot smoking habits , we do not care
ReplyDeleteTim Liotta preceded Paulie.
ReplyDeleteI like Smurf and Mook! Just wish they weren't such homers
ReplyDeleteIm not very good at math but If Damon Bruce lost 40% market share would that leave him with 6 listeners?
