415 Media Exclusive: Haener's "Trust" Issue with Somerville; KTVU Intrigue

HAENER'S (Julie) "TRUST" ISSUE WITH SOMERVILLE (Frank)...Growing influence early on spelled DOOM for the still SUSPENDED (officially) KTVU anchor...

A KTVU source tells me one of the BIGGEST thorns AGAINST Frank Somerville wasn't so much KTVU's inner office bosses (like ND, Amber Eikel) but a very skeptical and annoyed co-anchor, Julie Haener. Usually a solid supporter and key Frank ally, (still publically), Haener told friends quietly that Somerville was becoming too much a "distraction" and that she (Julie) had a difficult time "trusting him."

Make no bones about it, Fox corporate suits (including Eikel) are the ones who ultimately BOUNCED Frank --(his contract is up Jan. 28th) but Haener's inner JUICE at Fox2 was/is seen as a key component to the overall scheme. She was viewed as someone who the SUITS had both respect and admiration; they regarded her feelings as almost the gospel and felt as if she gave a FIRM nod to allowing Frank back, that was a major plus. Not just for Somerville, but KTVU as a whole. So much for loyalty and SUPPORT. Of course no one is talking, including Haener herself and Frank has been MUM's the word for over a month now.

An indicatinn that Julie has more POWER than one thinks --maybe her healthy amount of days off are pretty much explained now.

Stay tuned.

  1. So, you're saying Haener wants Frank back???

  2. Maybe Julie could introduce Roberta to a bar of soap.

    1. You gotta catch her today. Roberta is wearing a Giant Fake Hair thing. I think they used to call those "Bump-Its" in the 80s.

  3. If the suits care so much for Julie, why did they allow her to broadcast from home with such poor lighting. At the beginning of the broadcast-from-home period, the lighting was so poor in her house that it darkened the area under her eyes and in her wrinkles. It was terrible. I thought that after the first night, they'd send somebody over to her house to fix the lighting. But it persisted day after day, week after week -- as if nobody in management was watching. If they think she's a star, they would have corrected the lighting pronto!

      That costs MONEY.

As it is they seem to buy reconditioned body mics from Radio Shack. Anything from Fox is super, super cheap.

  4. A lot of people don't like Julie from what I've read here over the years but compared to some of the other women reading the news I think she does a pretty good job and I would watch her before the insufferable Daria Folsom.

    1. One's a morning anchor, the other evening (hard news). Not a really fair comparison. Darya vs. Gasia would be more like it.

  5. Whats with Mike Nicco moving to 11 am and 4 pm. He's definitely not happy about it. Drew Tuma taking over mornings. Is Spencer Christian retiring?

    1. Today, Nicco said that Christian has his own plans and will announce them himself.

  6. Put Julie in charge of the newsroom. From home if necessary.

  7. Haener is OK, just as long as she cuts back on those "puffy upper arm and shoulder" outfits.
Who is the designer, the same guy who outfits the Michelin Man?

    1. Agreed. She dresses like a game show host from 1982. "What's behind door no. 3, Julie?"

  8. You sure picked a fine picture of Frank there! (And Julie looks professional for once, not wearing those gaudy, fluffy, fashionable-in-the-80s outfits.)

    1. I don't think I've ever seen a flattering picture of Frank posted here, not that I really care because I do get a nice laugh looking at his puffy, blotchy, red face with his mouth hanging open and some dazed looked that could be captioned "where am I"

  9. I know that Julie seems to get a bad wrap and I won't pretend I know much about news talent and just a very rare occasional viewer she seems pretty flawless with her delivery unlike Frank who lost his fastball a while ago.

  10. Somerville is a cheater. Why would anyone trust him?

    1. By that measurement half the anchors on the air shoudln't be trusted. The list of affairs among newsblabbers is quite extensive.

  11. Somerville had an option to return and be conciliatory. Hubris. His inflated ego got in the way and he chose to self destruct.

    No Sympathy. Move on!

No he didn't. Where did you make that up from?

Amber E hasn't returned one of his phone calls since day one.

    2. Actually he did return. Then he got in trouble again. Amber walked him back into the building. Pay attention.

  12. Don't blame Julie for speaking up. Being a news anchor can be like working in the circus as a trapeze artist. If you have reached a point where you don't think your on air partner is in synch with you and will be there to catch you as any professional expects, then it's time to find someone who is more dependable.
No one likes working w/o a safety net. You could fall flat on your face.

  13. Asswipe Rich. The SOB had every opportunity to to turn a negative into a positive, but Frank is a self absorbed pussy like you.

    NO BALLS!
