The Mystery Continues; Anchor Elaine Corral's Sudden On-Air Exit from KTVU

ALMOST TWO DECADES ago, former KTVU anchor, Elaine Corral, resigned--on air no less. Co-workers were stunned and caught off guard.

There was no official reason given and Corral herself never went into any detail(s) as to why she quit. Even longtime KTVU staffers, including many on-air veterans were SHOCKED and jad no idea what was behind Corral's sudden departure. After her resignation, she left the studio at KTVU. Some rumor about her want to get equal pay (what Dennis Richmond was making) made the rounds but it was NOT the reason she had left. To this day, nobody knows. And even more mysteriously, Corral hasn't spoken and a few station vets, who might know the specifics, haven't said a word.

Industry speculation was rampant but nothing concrete was put forth. There were stories that Corral may have been the recipient of workplace sexual harrassment but again, she never talked nor offered any detail as to why she left so suddenly. And Corral today, who lives in the Eastbay, has remained tight-lipped about what prompted her to leave, on the air no less. Adding to the mystery: Corral signed a SUPER TIGHT confidentiality agreement. The agreement maintained if she spoke, it would be null and void.

My own research is on-going. We haven't heard the full story. Meaning YOU haven't heard the full story.

  1. In todays world with Social Media, most people overshare, but there are still a small segment of folks who value their privacy.
Perhaps Elaine is one of those people. What may or may not have happened at KTVU stays at KTVU. And that's the end of it.

On a very different topic; those radio commercials on 98.1am
"Who's got the sauce?---I've got the sauce."
That annoying commercial is driving me batty.
I keep waiting for it's contracted time to finally end.
Meanwhile, I just lower the volume for a few minutes.

    1. Not many can leave like Elaine and keep her private and away from the media.

    1. Funny, I was just watching that clip the other day. That movie was well ahead of its time. The Truman Show too.

  3. On a scale of 1 to 10, Elaine's on air exit ranks about a 7. For a solid 10, google the name Christine Chubbuck.

    1. Isn't Chubbuck the gal who whacked herself "live" on air?

  4. There is enough confusion, derision and havoc in all of Bay Area TV and radio stations today. Why dredge this up?

    Another mystery.

  6. When Rich shared details of who attended Fred Zehnder's funeral, two names were obviously omitted. One because no one wanted any part of her, and the other was the mysterious one who was mentioned above.

  8. Now if only Julie Haener would follow Corral's lead and GTFO. Now that would be amazing.

  9. 20 years ago Rich. Let it go.
You might as well bring up Kristie Wilde and Fast Eddie Alexander.

  10. Corral was supposed to be a 'little out of focus' as she was self conscious regarding her acne scars. A friend of mine found out the hard way, she had him fired after one of the broadcasts.

  11. Is Dennis Richmond really a good guy? I know he went through a lot of stress and anger representing the first African American on prime time evening news, but both Elaine and Leslie worked with Dennis and wonder it is related to Dennis. Since you mention sexual harassments and privacy agreement, both reporter departure reminds me of NBC Matt Lauer against his former female staffs whom they went against him when the truth came out.

    1. I worked with Dennis for 10 years at KTVU. He is a good man and a fine newsman. I never saw him do anything out of line. (It was the 1980’s and the rules were a little different.)

  12. Elaine wanted an acting career. I remember seeing at least one story about it in one of the local papers. It didn't pan out, obviously.

  13. My daughter was a Kidstown Reporter im the late 80s. She became friends with Ms Corral and itvwas so nice to see her treaty daughter so kindly when she went for taping kidstown reports. She is a great lady, and a helluva reporter.

  14. The reason why I'm somebody who's snooping into Elaine's later life is, I just received word about Leslie Griffith's death.

  15. I was dating a KTCU cameraman at the time of Eliane’s exit, and after basically BEGGING him to tell me why she left, I finally got the scoop! There’s a couple parts to the story.
But I came here after reading about Leslie Griffith, who was extremely cool, according to the same cameraman 😊
