His resume is filled with both local and national outlets and there's no sport or network that Teddy Ballgame hasn't appeared on; if you remember, Robinson broadcast Giants baseball on both TV and radio too and had numerous HOF-status calls during the Barry Bonds era. I'm not sure why Robinson ultimately left the Giants (I have a hunch) but that was then, this is now. Which is the point for this post.
Wouldn't it be great for the Giants to bring back Robinson? Just for fill-in. A temporary gig while the status of Duane Kuiper becomes more clear. Remember, this is just fill-in, not permanent; Robinson is a fantastic baseball broadcaster and I'm quite sure, Kuiper would give his blessing for Ted to broacast while he((Kuip) recovers from his medical situation. They both worked together in the early 2000's. Kuiper very much loves and admires Ted's play-by-play.The Giants can conduct a stroke of genius here--in three ways. They have a superb PBP guy at their beckoning. They can bring forth a Bay Area favorite who is universally beloved by not only his peers, but a vast Bay Area sports' fans alliance. They can also, temporarily, I repeat, reunite a Hall-of-Fame announcer with both Mike Krukow and Jon Miller. What is there not to like?
Plenty.
But I say put ego aside. Everyone. This is too great an idea, especially because it's my idea. Even though I'm doomsday, even I have good ideas that make too much sense. The Giants are major-league, first place,a storied Bay Area and national franchose that deserves and is warranted for BIG TIME announcers. Ted Robinson would make for a fabulous fill-in. Remember, it's just for a limited time. Let's make it happen.
Would love to see Ted Robinson back with the Giants as plsy by play even if its part time...
ReplyDeleteIt makes too much sense, which is why it will ever happen.
ReplyDeleteGreat call, Rich. Ted is a true professional,
ReplyDeletetoo long missing from our airwaves
Hear hear! And then he can replace that smarmy shithead Greg Papa as 49ers broadcaster.
ReplyDeleteGreg Papa is pretty good. Yeah, it might've been controversial how he got the Niners gig, but Ted Robinson had a good run with the Niners when he was the Niners radio play-by-play guy. I think Ted Robinson is better calling baseball games.
DeleteBaer is an asshole. Not happening. Wish his wife would have kicked him in the meat grapes struggling for his phone.
ReplyDeleteDude is a douche. I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire!
You are assuming Ted is interested (in a temporary position), which I'm not sure he is.
ReplyDeleteWhoever they used Wednesday night was a bore. It’s bad enough that the broadcasters aren’t traveling with the team. This guy sounded like he was home in his jammies
ReplyDeleteI believe Ted is doing The Olympics... or Wimbledon... or BOTH!
ReplyDeleteIf Ted is busy, is Roxy Berstein available?
ReplyDeleteI think Roxy Berstein is more affiliated with the A's. He does some A's games on the radio here and there, or at least he did when the A's were on 95.7.
DeleteOops. Thanks, Otis III. The A's have a good one in Roxy.
DeleteRoxy Bernstein is an excellent PBP especially if Ted Robinson is at the Olympics or Wimbledon.
DeleteTed crossed my mind but how about Rich Waltz temporary to get him ready for the future? Bay Area guy, seasoned, called a few games for the G-Men a couple years ago.
ReplyDeleteFor filling in duties Robinson would be too expensive and a blow to his ego. Plus he is busy!
ReplyDeleteDumb idea.
There is plenty of good PBP talent itching at the opportunity.
Ted Robinson doesn't seem to have an ego, but I agree that it probably would be expensive to have him just do fill-in duty for this season, or until Duane Kuiper comes back.
DeleteNotice how Baer is microphone hogging again on KNBR and in other media? I thought the Giants were going to put him aside after he shoved around his wife. But he's back, and as smarmy as ever.
ReplyDeleteAs long as Larry the Baer is around, you can be sure his ginormus ego will get in the way of any sane decision. In short, Ted won't get anywhere near the Hodges/Simmons Broadcast Center.
