Aaron Pero is Probably on Thin Ice at KRON. Here's Why.

WEDNESDAY REPORT

Aaron Pero has survived his asshole-ness at KRON mainly because he was considered a good ND and nobody in charge--be it whatever KRON owner (take your pick) bothered to check on staffers clearly affected by his crazy outbursts and intimidation. The toxic atmosphere got worse because nobody put a check on Pero's reign of terror.

One such outrageous incident, even more jarring today, involved a KRON vet, anchor/reporter, Justine Waldman, who had a personal confrontation with Pero in his office; Pero was heard yelling and screaming to the point, Waldman left his office and was crying. Visibly shaken. Waldman wasn't the only person at KRON who received Pero's wrath. But Waldman's was unique in this respect: she and Darya Folsom were bitter enemies and Folsom was just at the beginning of her relationship with Pero. Put two and two together. Conflict? You don't say.

Pero was known to humiliate other personnel, not just off-air people but on-air as well. He openly bragged to staffers he "ruled" the newsroom and was free to manage by intimidation. The little people at KRON dared snitch on him or report him to corporate and even if they did, their complaints were tossed in the wind. Nobody up above sseemed to care or have the chops to do anything. Sometimes it was just a case of laziness.

Today, there's a new sheriff in town, Jim Rose, the VP and GM hired in May. Rose hasn't implemented much of a policy yet, on the programming level, concentrating on getting his bags unpacked and looking over the inventory. KRON, via Nextstar, probably asked him to FOCUS in on Pero and his relationship with Darya, finally, even if it was years late to the party.

Officially, Pero is suspended. How long is anyone's guess but it might as well be indefinite. Rose and KRON/Nextstar people are more than likely buying time to do something far more punitive, like, say, blowing out Pero? It wouldn't be totally shocking. In fact, there's just enough rancor and division in the newsroom to warrant such a move. Pero's relationship with Folsom is the least of the issues but make no mistake, it's at the forefront.

A possible Pero blowout comes with trepidation; I'm sure he's got a lot of stuff written down (and so does Darya) but KRON, I'm sure, has lots of crap on him. I'd love to see his personal file. Which is all the more evidence that Rose is about to show what he's made of; he's suspended Pero, now he has the ammo to do the ultimate: send Pero, the ultimate Napoleon, out to pasture. It might be just in time to save the newsroom.

  1. Let's hope the Tiny Terror (and he IS a diminutive man-boy) is out on his ass. It's simply outrageous that he's been allowed such free reign to bully and intimidate. Of course, since he does appear to have a Napoleon Complex, it's not surprising. Send him packing now.

No, Sir, I will not touch Gasia’s Ham and I will not touch Pero’s man-ass.

  2. You talk about how it would be hard for Frank to get a job anywhere else. It'd be harder for Pero. His reputation preceds him, and deservedly so.

  3. Tiny Terror, Napolean Complex of course but that man is a genius. He has single handily kept KRON from going bankrupt. He was in on fake news before Trump an the Republican's stole the title from KRON. Where else in the Bay Area can you go for local news to see an alligator chase a women down a street in Kissimmee, FL? Full time weather and let us not forget he finally got Radnich off the air. We had been tortured by his half efforts for too long. Criticize the short tyrant if you must but would you want the station turned over to someone like Will Tran?

    1. I cannot speak to Pero's management style, but if he is the one that selects "talent", he has some serious shortcomings. The morning show is near unwatchable, but
not because of Darya and James. The field reporters are
total amateurs. Sara Stinson has not improved one iota
since she came onboard. She rambles on incessantly.
Camila Barco stumbles consistently. I haven't seen her do
one LIVE report flawlessly since she arrived. Also, who
is this mysterious character, Yoeli who is never seen on screen? She would fit right in on radio, but someone should tell Yoeli that television is a visual medium.
All three should watch Amy Holyfield on KGO. Locally,
she is the best LIVE reporter in the business. Her reports
are short and to the point and she never stumbles. She
also makes great eye contact with the camera.

  4. Rule number one...never dip your pen in the company ink. It just doesn't work long term.

  6. If he supposedly has as much anger as everyone here posts about, I wonder if he takes that anger out in the bedroom with Darya.

  7. All Rose has to do is find just one compromising photo of Pero, especially if it's with you-know-who. Could end up (pardon the pun) being a double ouster. Two could be bounced (another pun) from the premises, and both deservingly so (Rich's shared photos of the latter is further proof).

  8. Pero thinks like a child. He's the one who came up with the insipid title for the segment featuring Phil Matier, back when he was still stuck at KRON. What did Pero call it? Why, PHIL-I-BUSTER, of course. <<>>>

  9. What's that on Darya's leg? Did she pull her court-ordered ankle bracelet up her leg?
