TOM TOLBERT, the PM DRIVE conductor of the "TKB" Show (2-6 PM) is now, according to a source, "doing a 'Ralph thing." That would reference the late RALPH BARBIERI, who was FIRED in 2012 primarily because KNBR (CUMULUS) suits were PISSED OFF over The RAZOR's habitual tardiness. Barbieri subsequently SUED KNBR and received a $4Million settlement.
TOLBERT hasn't directly received a WARNING but his boss, PD, JEREMIAH CROWE, is none too pleased that his 6ft 8 power forward has lately taken to the air a good half-hour LATE on recent occasions--Tolbert was well over an HOUR LATE just last TUESDAY, the day after a WARRIORS game; Tolbert does the home Dubs' radio games for 95.7 FM, "The Game."
Again, the tardy issue hasn't affected ratings, (yet) because TKB has good numbers, for now. But clearly, Crowe, who is NOT a people person when things are good, is extremely UNHAPPY that a third of his three-man trifecta doesn't show up on time.
Tardy due to gambling while drinking beer.
ReplyDeleteI hope the eccentric Tolbert has a plan to not only leave the station himself, but also expose the fraud that is Crowe and pull him out of the station as well.
ReplyDeleteThe Razor's route to riches: show up late for work on a regular basis, get your ass fired for that irresponsible habit, and then sue and collect millions. Thinking about that makes me want to Ralph.
ReplyDeleteRalph stopped following current sports, he sounded like a intern compared to Tolbert's knowledge, have not listen to the PM show in years, when I was commuting, I prefered Damon and Ratto if I am in my car at that time.
DeleteBarbieri, when he got there, would just phone it in. Sounded like that 5th grader giving the book report who never read it. They were way too patient with him.
DeleteThe show has been stale from the get go. The pandemic has only made it worse. Not good chemistry at all. Tolbert has really gone off the rails with the betting also. With Ratto, it was more about sports. Lund was crap and now double crappola. Wonder if he'll see the contract thru. Move to 95.7 or Vegas betting radio.
ReplyDeleteI agree, this show might not have been a good mix. Lieberman talked about it from day 1 two years ago. It was kind of a weird combination because Greg Papa coming to KNBR kind of affected all 3 of them. All of their shows got broken up. Larry Krueger had a good thing co-hosting with Gary. Say what you want about Fitz and Brooks, but they were a mainstay in the Noon-3 hrs on 680 for a number of years, and like you said about Tolbert, he basically had a decent/ok show with Ratto. The chemistry was there between the two. In a way, Tolbert hasn't really been the same since Ralph was let go. That really was his guy.
DeleteIt was almost like Tolbert, Krueger, and Brooks were thrown together in the afternoon drivetime slot and KNBR wanted to see if it worked. They're ok, but when you listen to them I agree, the chemistry is not really there, or it's a weird chemistry. Probably the weirdest weekday show out of all the weekday shows on KNBR and 95.7.
Regarding Tolbert, yeah, it would make sense to have him go to 95.7, especially since he's calling Warrior home games on 95.7. He can be another person calling games for the Warriors that can give his input, and that way you would have the whole Warriors broadcast team giving their input on Warrior games on their flagship station; Fitz, Azubuike, Tim Roye, Jim Barnett, and Tom Tolbert.... If Tolbert goes to 95.7, not sure if he would want to be on Damon's show, but I guess it would make sense to switch him with Damon and you would have Tolbert, Ratto, and Kolsky on 95.7 and on KNBR you would have Damon, Krueger, and Brooks.
If Tolbert wants to stay on KNBR, maybe switch out one of Krueger or Brooks for Ratto. That way, you would have Tolbert, Ratto, and Krueger/Brooks on KNBR and on 95.7 you would have Damon, Krueger/Brooks, and Kolsky.
We'll see. You could be on to something if Tolbert really is not all that happy about his show with Krueger and Brooks.

ReplyDeletePlain and simple, he wants out!!! From the beginning he wasn't happy. This news should come as no surprise. It simply doesn't work with three guys. It's to many voices talking over each other.
ReplyDeletelike almost all things, tolbert has a shelf like which has now been reached. time for him go.
ReplyDeleteLarry Baer is not going to like that Tom is wearing an Angels shirt in the above picture. And if Tom gets a cat, we will know for certain that he is following the Barbieri play book.
ReplyDeleteIt's well known by now that Tom Tolbert is an Angels fan. He used to talk about how he had to root against his Angels in 2002 because the Giants were playing them in the World Series, and the dilemma he had to go through in that and how hard it was for him.
DeleteBut yes, I'm sure Larry Baer knows by now that Tom is an Angels fan.
Obvious solution: listen to satellite radio. They have stations focused on each sport. No need to listen to a three-ring circus or to listen to a worn lounge lizard act. Keep conventional radio for traffic and breaking news. The rest of regular radio: JUNK.
ReplyDeleteHumm, maybe there's reasons why Tom is late. Maybe he has to pick up his kids, or maybe go over Warrior material for Warriors games that he calls, or possibly try to get to Chase Center to do his radio show and call the Warrior game?
ReplyDeleteHe has grown kids..I just think he doesnt take his job seriously and never has
DeleteTolbert is a clown. Always has been. Always will be. Has he mentioned he loves beer lately? Maybe he drinking too much.
