You Take John Rothmann on KGO Radio for Granted. You Shouldn't. As Election Nears, Appointment Radio on AM 810

EVERY NIGHT, You Learn Something New.

Everyone's home, and that's good news for talk radio host John Rothmann – J.

Like this, for example. I sort of knew, but wasn't clear on it all.

The 2020 Election is a little more than two weeks away. If you want a thorough, informative and compelling overview of its status and meaning, then you must give a listen to the John Rothmann Show on KGO Radio (Monday-Friday 6-9 PM, Saturday, 5-8PM)

I mostly love Rothmann's nightly political tour-de-force. It's a brilliant listen and, for the most part, a free and educational three-hour college lecture--I mean that complimentary-wise, certainly not a knock. At times, it's as if I'm hearing a professor lob out intellectual government prowess at a UC Berkeley class. Those of you that listen regularly to Rothmann get my drift. But take note. Enjoy it all, Rothmann's repertoire, because we all have a tendency to take it for granted.

We shouldn't.

Rothmann is way, way too civil and well-meaning. He goes overboard in his insistence that the opposition get its say. He allows the Trump loyalists far too much time on the air; to a point, it's incredibly out-of-whack and disgusting because you have to put up with banality and downright ignorance, but Rothmann is sincere. He so desperately wants the other side to get their due. He is consistent.

I mention this all because it's a component of Rothmann's want for everyone to voice their side. I used to think it was (and is) a dorky side of John but came to realize that it's a tremendous example of Rothmann's civility. A far cry from what we get on the air, from a Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, or Rush Limbaugh. All of the latter conduct a nightly ten-car pile-up. You may find it entertaining, I find it boring and repetitive. I'm all for show but I need a case for civility and I get that with Rothmann and it's just as entertaining.

We take Rothmann for granted. We shouldn't. We should count our blessings that we can hear him on the radio, on KGO, six nights a week. It's a real treat. It's the old KGO that I love. I'm not always going to love Rothmann's penchant to say he worked for Dick Nixon (but he really did) but I can chuckle too. I can also LOL when Rothmann says "I've known {Joe Biden} for years." He does too. Why do I laugh? I have no idea, I just do.

Give a listen to Rothmann. You'll understand.

  1. I used to like him, but he's all things anti-right now. I'm left for the most part, but I want police to start arresting any and all protesters who become violent. Throw a rock = jail, break a window = jail, assault a police officers = jail, etc. If you want change do it through grass roots politics. If it takes too long for you (the change), SHUT UP and enjoy democracy!

    1. Agreed. He always likes to point out how he worked for Nixon and claims he's a registered "independent" but then goes on to tell you how he voted for Clinton, Gore, Obama, Clinton and soon Grandpa Biden. He's biased, he's not "center". Just another leftist hack.

    2. Indeed...he used to be good, now nothing differentiates him from any other left wing echo chamber clown. Not interesting at all.

  2. The left is a disgrace. Come to the burbs and try that shit where I live. I have plenty of LE in my county. I will introduce these pinks to my good friends Smith & Wesson.

The gloves come off 11/4. Let "The Purge" begin! Pedo Joe is going down!

    1. Pedo Joe? How about Pedo Don, who likes fondling his daughter? Or Adulterer Don, screwing some hooker while his wife was at home with a newborn?

  3. John would be the first person to support arresting and charging protesters who break the law.

  4. John Rothmann is just a liberal Sean Hannity, one who likes to play the my-side-is-good-the-other-side-is-bad game. The guy apparently has no problem with violent mobs destroying cities like Portland, Seattle and elsewhere, yet he finds it UNCONSCIONABLE that federal authorities are going in to help squelch the looting, vandalism, arson and physical attacks against innocent people--all because their boss is Donald Trump (R). At least Michael Savage has no problem criticizing both sides, like when he rebuked the President for going out in public shortly after his positive Covid diagnosis. I wouldn't listen to Rothmann anymore, except his program is on during my commute home, and I would rather listen to political talk than a financial show, where Dave Ramsey tells everyone that paying off their houses and avoiding any and all debt is really, really, really, really, really easy.

    1. Just a liberal Sean Hannity? Is that like just a decent, educated, enlightened mature Donald Trump?

    2. Dave Ramsey does not tell everyone that it is easy, in fact he is saying it is hard, but you will reap the benefits later. I listen to his show every now and then, and have followed some of his advise, not 100% though, but it has made my finances better, wish I had followed his advice 20 years ago. Having said that I would probably prefer a regular talk show if I was driving, depending who is on. John is one of my favorites, so an easy choice.

  5. Rothmann's are a dime a dozen on channels like CNN and MSDNC. Just wait for the segment on political commentary or when they bring in their "political experts" who aren't supposed to be biased at all. No, neeeeever.

    1. We can't all be a fair and balanced as you obviously are, anonymous October 17.

    2. CNN and MSNBC don't advertise their political pundits as not "biased". RickSantorum, for example is a right winger with right wing bias. HE is frequently featured on CNN.Punditry is bias, fortunately.

  6. I seem to recall listening to John in late 2016 (before the election) driving down I-5 and he was convinced that there was no way Trump was going to win. Since that time, I've taken his word with just a few grains of salt.

    2. John was not the only one, Ronn Owens, Pat Thurston and many national pundits, even conservative ones thought the same. Guess there are not many hosts or pundit that can live up to your standards?

  7. Rothman: "...and when the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA..."!!!!!

  9. Is there anyone rothman isn't related to? His cousin, his second cousin, his wife's third cousin is so and so..I like how he gets overly emotional talking about nixon all the time

  10. Why are liberals the only ones calling for censorship and blocking of information they don't approve of? Hunter Biden's plundering of cash all around the world is just one such issue.
If the info is false why are they trying to censor it? If it is false that will be proved and make you happy.

If it isn't false why are liberals censoring?

  11. Rothman's the best KGO has right now with Pat and Chip a close 2nd and 3rd. How come there's no local right winger to compete with them on KSFO or the other Con station besides syndicated drivel like Hannity, Levin and Limbaugh? There's a local audience out there for them just based on all the kooks who call John, Pat and Chip.

    2. @1250...sez the guy who watches Fox 24/7 and thinks Trump is a stable genius. Can't wait till your pathetic party implodes.

  12. Johns outraged about everything. old tired act. Gets old. Rather listen to Tim Conway Jr. Done with politics. Both sides are pathetic. San Francisco is disgusting. In some neighborhoods there are as many condos currently listed as sold in the neighborhood all of last year. Commercial, retail and office. Cheers to the guy who pooped on Nancy's driveway.

    1. Tim Conway Jr. on KFI is beyond boring. He has nothing of importance to say, is not funny like his dad and has to lean right like the other dipshits on KFI.

    2. Yeah, I've tried to listen to Conway in the evenings since there isn't anything worth listening to around here but all I hear is clips from the news and banal talk, especially when Mark Thompson is on.

  13. Not a fan of Rothmann. But I was surprised by his shows on Lowell High and the renaming of schools. Those were the two best shows I've ever heard him do. He was passionate and well informed. The difference is that these were local topics that everybody has an opinion about. Normally he just bashes Trump, and I don't like Trump either, but it gets boring. I can find all of the Trump bashing I want on national outlets. What KGO can do (that those national outlets can't) is local topics that everybody here cares about. If Rothmann were to bring that kind of focus and energy to every show, he'd be No. 1 in his time slot, with KCBS and KQED in the rear view mirror. This is the type of energy and local focus KGO needs from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. Drop the national stuff and cover what nobody else can cover. It can be exciting radio. John proved that the other night.

  14. I think a combination of national and local would be preferable. I enjoy John's show on politics. I don't have a TV I get news and information from the internet and the radio. What I like about John's shows on Trump is the different opinion of the callers.

  15. What did John have to say about the renaming of schools? I know he was labeled a "white supremecist" by The Woke for not wanting to destroy that mural. I assume he is also against the renaming of the schools as well.

I admit, I'm getting amused and even tickled a bit watching the Left eating their own when it comes to their stupid woke nonsense. Now Diane Feinstein might get "cancelled"? LOL

  16. The Left is not some monolithic group, just as I believe the right is not. While it might be appropriate to rename some schools, I believe, as does John and the mayor of San Francisco that the school board is going way overboard. John mentioned one school that was named after someone who actually fought for civil rights.

  17. Rich....Very much agree with your assessment, and I absolutely appreciate that we get 6 days of him during these tumultuous times. He very much reminds me of the late, lamented glorious KGO format of a decade ago. Very glad John Rothmann now airs at a reasonable hour too. Used to try and catch him when he did weekend overnights, but you know, sleep and such got in the way. Now, John accompanies our dinner prep time. He is compelling, civil, enlightened, knowledgeable about international and national topics, and politically leans in a responsible manner toward the center and slightly left - which I agree with!
