  1. With all the impending layoffs at NBC 11 I hope they don't break off Terry McSweeney. In my opinion, he is as solid a newsman as they come.

    1. I doubt they touch him although with NBC, who knows.

  2. What's John Kessler up to these days? He and Sydnie Kohara worked so well together

    1. Hi Kevin: John has been doing investment banking in upstate NY the past few weeks and seems delighted to be out of broadcasting --he is an avid reader of 415 Media.

    2. I can picture the gorgeous, the beautiful, the ... (insert appropos adjective HERE) VDLC. I'm her biggest fan(boy) so when she breathes, I SUCK in her air ... (hmmm, not sure about the similie but okay). Veronica!!! Come to Sacramento, you will OWN the airwaves (esp. since Kathy Park left to hitch up to NBC .. yeah, Kathy, I'm WATCHING YOU ... especially)

    3. Dude, you have to chill on the VDLC. Sure, sure can read the news, but there are plenty of ladies that do that well that deserve some consideration:

Juliette Goodrich - seriously, one of he best.
      Cristina Rendon - hot
Rosemary Orozco why isn't she doing weather reports from the beach or pool-side?

  3. Where is VDLC this week? They don't even mention that Cook is filling in for her.

Not that I'm complaining, just curious.

    1. Even when she's there I ask "where is VDLC?" --that should answer your question.

  4. Do you have any follow-up information, on the future of the older members of the Giants' announcing team (Miller, Kuiper, Krukow)? And on the other side of the Bay, Korach's future with the A's?

    1. Korach is good for another three or more years--or as long as the A's remain in Oakland--Krukow and Kuiper are probably the most popular duo in MLB broadcasting (not my pick) so they have a job as long as they want...Jon Miller seems destined for at least another three years, my best guess.

  5. Hi Rich: I felt bad watching Kelli Johnson hosting the Giants Post Game shows the past 2 nights knowing that word already came out that she was the first notable talent cut by NBC Sports Bay Area. Despite already knowing her time was up instead of just mailing it in Kelli still did a very good job in moderating the Giants post game show while easily facilitating comments from her analysts former Giants Pitcher George Kontos & Giants Sports Insider Alex Pavlovic. I always liked Kelli Johnson. I like to see her continue in the Bay Area ideally eventually replacing Channel 5's Dennis O'Donnell while keeping the Annoying Radnich Clone Vern Glenn stuck on weekends. What's your thoughts Rich? Keep up your Great Work! Cary SF

    1. Thanks Cary: I don't wish anyone a trip to the UE ville but I never thought Kelli Johnson was anything other than your standard pre/post game host on a cable sports show. I'm sure when she's gone come years end, she'll land on her feet.

  6. Have you heard of a newish talk host on OZY? His name is Carlos Watson. I was listening to 98.1AM and heard his intro commercial on the radio. "I'm not just some WHITE GUY named Jim!"...I was stunned at the overt racism. Carlos, as it turns out is black. Can you imagine the furor were details reversed? "I'm not just some BLACK GUY name Jamal!" .. My opinion? All Lives Matter. We are all entitled to some modicum of respect. I hope his approach does not catch on.

    1. Based on your info, I'll have to give a listen and see what all the fuss is about --although as you describe Carlos and his shtick I'm not going to make it a rush to hear his stuff.

  7. Have you ever looked at Henry Schulman's twitter account? What's your impression of his rantings?

    1. The old man? He blocked me because I told him he was a miserable old ass. I guess you know what I think of his rantings now.

    2. I had to unfollow Schulman because I just couldn't take his Farhan ass-kissing anymore. The guy has a massive mancrush or something. If I read the phrase "President of Baseball Operations" one more time I was going to throw my phone. I don't miss him.

    3. He used to be mildly entertaining but now he constantly comments on the coronavirus response (negative) while pushing Sporting Green articles behind a paywall.

      Delete
    4. If he stuck to sports ok, but don't act like you work for the Giants and push everything to the Sporting Green paywall. Also, we know you're scared of corona and can't stop second-guessing the administration.

  8. We always hear about KGO radio, KSFO radio, etc.
All the layoffs and furloughs and how the stations are making no money. Cumulus desperate for revenue or cost cutting.
But we never seem to hear anything the main component of the station's revenue which is advertising. That is the WHOLE ballgame.
So with that in mind, I'd like to know a bit more about how much those endless spots are costing the advertisers. That whole end of the business.
The thousands and thousands of spots, run as often as 5 times a hour for the same company.
How much does a company like Balance of Nature pay to run a 60 second spot, say in the 12 to 2 pm time slot.
How is the money divided when two ads for Balance of Nature in the John Batchelor show where one has "code John" and the next, 60 seconds later "code KGO".
Or spots for local business, like "The Intelligent Law Firm" spots, or the Plesanton doctor who fixes "bone on bone arthritis"
So many of the advertiser are borderline scams, (Balance of Nature), that we wonder how much Cumulus is getting to sell out their listenership. They seem desperate.

    1. It varies.
Good questions. I know a little but not so much there. I know a lot of ad guys and gals read this blog so I'll bet they know and can answer.

    2. And how much is AAA spending to endlessly run those TV ads with a family, a repair specialist, and a customer service rep all riding in the same car?

    3. They and Kars-4-Kids pay for a lot.

    4. I'm still stunned greg papa aka the arrogant one, still hasn't done ad yet raving about the great divorce help he got from joe cordell

  9. Hi Rich,

I hope all is well with you.

It looks like local radio and TV news is going to continue remote from home for awhile. I get it however by now you would think that they would have the sound and picture quality pretty much set. Do you think the quality will get better or is this the best the stations can do? Oh please Reggie Aqui get a better backdrop I am so sick of your painting and lamp.

    1. No, the sound and quality of picture will continue to suck because there's a lot of cheap companies out there who truly don't give a damn --state of the industry and a pandemic is no excuse.

    2. I remember when "broadcast quality" was the standard to strive for... and that was when we were still working with tape. Now, anything goes.

    2. Can someone confirm is Erica still working on KOVR 13 CBS Sacramento on the weekends?? I saw her about a year ago, but don't pay much attention to that station.

    3. Erica is about to be a mom. Congrats Erica!

    1. Not as much as you think; she's a rarity; not in for the kill. He's very lucky on that front.

    2. Nice house, but I wouldn't call it a mansion. Not by a long shot. And hopefully Donna didn't get Franks football helmet collection or red sports car.

    3. California is a community property state. Each spouse is basically entitled to one half of assets produced during the duration of the marriage. You keep separate property, such as an inheritance, or a house you owned with a paid off mortgage before the marriage. If you have a house with a mortgage before the marriage, that portion of the asset would be your separate property. ONce you are married, the remaining portion with the extant mortgage is community property.

  14. What happened to the online edition of the classic SF oldies music station, KYA 1260? It was available to stream via the TuneIn radio app. Now their Facebook page says they stopped online casting in July. It was run by former on-air disc jockey Gary Mora. They ran old radio ads for the Fillmore and Tower Records. I assume a lack of new advertising or other revenue made it too expensive.

    1. Mary,
They and their sister station KABL both ceased operations about a month ago. All KABL posted was a message that they would be ceasing operations and not to make any further inquiries to them, that the decision was firm.
