Media People on Giants' Cardboard Cutout Gimmick: Sickening

Giants to Debut Before a Crowd of Cardboard Cutouts - SF Weekly

SO...THIS IS WHAT WE'VE COME TO?

We're immersed in a world-wide pandemic. Especially in the USA, we're getting it real hard. The virus is getting worse.

People are dying. Nearing 150 thousand deaths here and we're set for a horrible second act come the fall and winter.

So with all that, sure, lets' make a joke and laugh. It's all a comedy. Just what the doctor ordered. Ha Ha Ha.

Cardboard fans. Baseball games. Just hilarious.

What embarrassment. Media people have a hard time here and beyond so it gets harder to take serious.

Giants' people made a point of telling everyone they'd put your face on a seat if you plopped over 150 bucks. Murph and Mac made a point of telling everyone every five seconds to look for their mugs at the game last night. Papa and Lund too. What a bad joke. What a travesty. Yeah, I know the money goes to charity. Big deal. It's not right. It's sickening actually. It's abysmal. And if you have a loved one that died or was really sick from the virus, this is no laughing matter.

What a travesty.

What a world we live in, here especially.

My God, heaven help us.

  1. In that pic you have of Holmes and Haener in the post below this one they look like cardboard cutouts.

  2. It's encouraging that not a single cardboard fan has tested positive.

    1. The Oakland A's are doing the same damn thing. But let's rag on the Giants. Yes, false outrage.

  7. Rich: If you have a fellow media blog friend in the Phoenix area who shares a lot of your views, please have them remind my aunt and uncle in the corner neighborhood near Sky Harbor that these Giant cardboards are far more entertaining than the dreck they say they enjoy from A&G. Somehow they love the Giants, but also A&G. Need to needle them, especially if your friend is a Savage fan like you.

  9. It's lame, but most things the Giants PR come up with is lame.
I find baseball irrelevant right now as well as the NBA, no interest, too much pain out there to give a shit about sports.

  11. Jesus, lighten up. So what? You want outrage? How about putting a runner on 2nd base at the top of the 10th inning? But at least we have baseball to stare at which I'm sure is a comfort to many, including those sick with Covid.

  12. I didn't see any social distancing in the stands. Does this mean that the virus can't enter the park? I give this mess three weeks and they ALL go home until a vaccine is available. We can't live a normal life with a Pandemic. It just won't work.

  13. As has been pointed out, this is not a Giants thing, but many if not most MLB teams are doing it, including the A's. And while it is pretty silly, I do not think in any way it is making a joke out of the pandemic or minimizing the seriousness of it. COVID sucks. We are living in a not-too-pleasant alternate universe these days, no doubt about it. But that doesn't mean we have to be sad and dour 24/7. I'm actually against sports going on right now given the safety risks. But... if we're gonna play, there's nothing wrong with at least trying to make it slightly more entertaining and enjoyable for fans. Cardboard cutouts are not mocking the seriousness of the times, they are just trying to bring a little levity to our currently tedious lives.
