A Great One. Funny, poignant, charismatic as hell. He was more than an iconic Bay Area newsman (via Mexico) he was the star KGO (Circle7) reporter that became a legendary air talent.
I shouldn't use the past tense so much--Rigo Chacon is very much alive and kicking.
People often forget Chacon was a damn good reporter--his signature outtake was so spectacular, kids in high school began saying his name outdoor--how COULD YOU NOT?
Rigo is still a prominent figure in San Jose and has an occasional bit in video production and living off a Lifetime Achievement --and a really nice guy too. A Circle7 lore with personality and extra grit.
One of the best and never slowing down.

DeleteRigo Chacon is why San Jose received its growing attention when all of the hi-tech businesses started to blossom in the 1970s, while dealing with the daily impoverished lives of so many this Hall-of-Fame reporter championed. All S.J. income levels treasure Chacon.
