Matier Bolts KPIX and Goes to Circle 7 --PIX Anchor: 'We're Reeling'

IT'S NOT SO MUCH A TV NEWS COUP that Phil Matier is now headed to KGO-TV

THE REAL NEWS? KPIX further erosion --the increasing breakdown of its news division and how people are "dying to get the hell out of here."

The above quote was from a disgruntled worker. Many of whom have flooded the area with resumes searching for a way out.

One longtime PIX anchor--who swore to me a quote based on me not naming nor referencing their ID:

"Every day is a challenge. Every day brings more drama and 'stuff  we don't need here. We don't have a plan. We don't have a long-term goal. It's as if we're just rudderless and no one in management seems to give a damn or care. The biggest thing is who's in charge? Nobody knows. It's a struggle now."
Gone: Paul Deanno, Melissa Caen, Christin Ayers. Now Matier. And MORE coming.

  1. There are a zillion anchors/reporters/writers/producers/photogs/editors who will jump at the chance to work at KPIX/in SF--no matter how low the pay or poor the morale....because pay is bad and morale low at medium and small markets across the country.

  2. As long as I don’t have to hear the Phil Matier/Mrs Kamala Harris shitfest anymore, fine with me.

    1. Agreed. Plus, as Rich himself has pointed out, normally Phil would have been all over the Jeff Adachi story if only he hadn't been Jeff Adachi.

      Bulldog reporter? No, lap kitty.

  4. My thoughts/speculations/guesses/brainstorming:
    -TV industry may be changing a bit regarding attracting & keeping talent;
    -any specific employer can have a period of bad managing;
    -like Silicon Valley, people jump for a higher salary or better company at any moment (employees' market), perhaps it's happening in the SFBayArea tv market, too;
    -some employees are more comfortable at his/her employer regardless of whether there's more money somewhere else, each employee may have other things happening in life and it's not the right time to be changing employers, in TV, this could be a major relocation and the job is only one aspect compared to real estate, children, marriage, family, one's commute, work hours/days;
    -KPIX still has Elizabeth Cook to return someday from maternity leave;
    -even though there appears to be negativity on this blog for Michelle Griego, I find her pleasant to watch & hear when I do catch KPIX weekday a.m. news;
    -there sure seem to be a lot (I mean A LOT) of commercials on a.m. news, often channels 2, 4, 5, 7, & 11 all playing commercials at the same time and not just because it's on the 1/2 hour. Hopefully, the ad revenue is good.

    Just my thoughts at this moment on this blog-topic.

  5. Andy Ross was the far better reporter in the Matier/Ross days.
