WOW, KGO PUTS DINOSAUR IN STUDIO, IT IS UGLY
Who the hell was responsible for putting on 120 year-old HAS-BEEN , Gil Gross into the studio today (Wednesday) from 10-Nooon? Was Owen Spann not available? Yes I know Owen Spann died several years ago which even at that would have sounded better than the horrible, disgusting and rank idiot, Gil Gross is and was.
Gross is BORING. His voice and demeanor an utter DISASTER! The MOTHER OF ALL RADIO RETREADS! KGO could have put on a fresh, interesting, YOUNG voice with only mild credentials --that would have been refreshing and different. Instead, we get the guy who has a terrible voice; a horrific sound; a TOTAL DISASTER and sounds like a drunk collie in heat, yeah, great pick to fill in for the guy who picks an African safari in September as vacation. But seriously, GIL GROSS?
Yeah, GIL is GROSS! Crotchety Fucking Gil Gross is GROSS!
He was awful !
ReplyDeleteRich=Meschugener.
ReplyDeleteIt could be worse. You could've had Ronnnnn Lowenstein as the sub. Max Headroom would've been a better choice.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, Rich? There IS nobody younger, fresher, etc. No young people are getting into broadcasting. It's an industry of nothing but old retreads, including myself, bouncing back and forth while waiting for retirement or death, whichever comes first.
ReplyDeleteNobody there cares about what’s on the air as long as someone is
DeleteHe just did a Labor Day special with CBS Newsradio. Believe he's a better "news only" guy.
ReplyDeleteI think you are right. Ages ago when Gil use to fill in for Ronn he was pretty good. When Pete Wilson died he took over his slot and he was okay. Then he got fired along with almost every one else at KGO. He surfaced on 910, which had the stupid idea that hosts should not take calls, thus Gil talked a lot, and although he did some good political analysis and interviews, his show turned into Gil musing about different things and talking a lot about himself, got real boring. Unfortunately today when he filled in for Mark he went back to the 910 model instead of the old KGO. So I agree he is not interesting anymore, at least for the most part. Having said that I do think Rich is getting a little to personal in his analysis of his fill in show today.
DeleteIt's great, just wait till Gil brings his lovely and talented wife on the air, every Friday.
ReplyDeleteHe can not complete a thought or sentence before going on a tangent. Very annoyo. Hate that more than anything. 'Chuck' Franklin does the same thing. Bounces from one thing to the next before completing the first statement.
ReplyDeleteWonder if ryan scott is the cabana boy/suck up/ass kisser for mark thompson
ReplyDeleteHere's a tip for KGO. Go local! Normally, I listen to people like Pat Thurston and John Rothmann and get bored really fast. They're usually just going through the motions of what a left-wing talk show host is supposed to do, bash Trump. I don't like Trump, but after 2.5 years, I've got Trump bashing fatigue. And these local hosts make dumb factual mistakes. It's ultimately boring and I switch to KCBS, KQED or KNBR.
ReplyDeleteBut Pat did a great show, at least the hour I caught. She did a local topic -- the rent caps passed by the Legislature. The question she was asking was whether landlords would hike rents before the caps go into effect, since they'll be limited in raising the rent after the law starts. The topic attracted some great (real) callers on both sides of the issue -- landlords who were thinking of raising the rent, renters who were barely hanging on. It was exciting talk radio, even though the subject on first blush doesn't sound that sexy. Then it hit me. The cure for KGO's problems is simple -- go local. Cut back on the national topics. You can hear people pontificating on those subjects in a 1,000 places. Instead focus on something people can't get anywhere else. And while I haven't been a big fan of Pat's, she did a terrific job in this segment, which probably lasted an hour or so.
Look, there is no other local talk station in the market. KGO should make the most of that by focusing on local subjects. Not just housing, but traffic, homelessness, MUNI, schools -- the list goes on and on.
That's her and Chip's problem tho. 75% of the time its national Trump this and Trump that. You are exactly right, go local.
DeleteGil Gross was filling in? Great. I hope he gets a regular spot.
ReplyDeleteI have always like Gil. He's fun and has a lifetime of knowledge about people and places. He has a great voice for radio too.
For some unGodly reason, many of you here think it's cool and neat to bash Gil. My advice? Don't be so quick to follow the herd.
Think for yourself. These are probably the same folks who are just too sophisticated for Armstrong & Getty.
I'm okay with The Missus throwing her two cents in every so often.
Is she looking for a radio spot of her own, maybe?
I guess you are not listening much, but Pat and John often talk about local issues, Pat has done several shows on homelessness and housing. John also tackles local issues, just the other day he talked about scooters in the city. He does talk national politics, lots of us listen to him, because he has a very good grasp on politics and Presidents. Yes other hosts talk national politics, but they tend to be conservative, Hannity, Rush, Levin, Hugh Hewitt, Larry Elder, Savage (although I give him credit for being critical of Trump when he thinks it is warranted)I mostly listen to Pat and John and I think they do a nice mix of local and national subjects.
ReplyDeleteI turned on my radio just before stepping into the shower today. It was during one of the numerous loooong commercial breaks. When the looooong commercial finally ended there was Gill! Guess what he was discussing? Russia/Trump collusion in the election. YAWN!!!! Thanks Gill for that riveting radio.
ReplyDelete@10:48, or should I say, Gil, NO. And we definitely do not need to hear your wife.
