I'VE BEEN MEANING to mention Tim Flannery of NBC Sports Bay Area.
I'm not a Giants fan but I watch the studio show when Flannery's on because, unlike all the other ex-jocks, Flannery speaks his mind, good or bad. He doesn't speak bullshit like the others. He probably gets castigated by some players because he rips quite frequently but it's refreshing. Refreshingly honest and straight-forward.
Howard Cosell called the ex-jocks on TV and radio part of a jockocracy
Cosell would have loved Tim Flannery.
100% right on the money with Flannery. When Flan and Estes are on together the show moves well on the commentary from those two. It doesn't matter who the host is, Flannery is the straw that stirs the drink. Great post, Rich
ReplyDeleteWOW, a positive review by Rich.
ReplyDeleteThat's because Flannery criticizes the Giants.
DeleteI like Flannery as a band member, coach, and analyst, but NOT
ReplyDeleteas a PA announcer. He set that profession back years when he subbed for Renel for a game last year.
Tim has all the appeal of a Lodi gas station bathroom.
ReplyDeleteFlannery also fronts a band that rocks from each end of the state to the other.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree about Flannery. I am a Giants fan but I react the same way you do. The guy is real.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I like Flannery both as an analyst and a musician. Last season he was one of the analysts on the MLB network. Don't know if it was his choice or the network's that he didn't return this season.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a good and colorful third base coach when he was on the field!
ReplyDeleteFlannery has all the intellectual being of a Kevin Frandsen. The only people he appeals to are middle aged caucasian males.
ReplyDeleteIf he is so outspoken and opinionated (and he is)then why don't the other lame asshats who sit next to him follow suit? They all a bunch of scare-dy cats.
