I will answer your questions to the best of my ability --Been getting lots of info--some good, some bad. I have to chuckle that Cumulus didn't even let him have a "retirement" party; a last broadcast if you will which should indicate this was no retirement by Raddy.
Name and town please.
UPDATE:
2: 22 PM
So now we hear he'll (Radnich) have a "farewell" show tomorrow (Monday) when the BS meter will be off the chart; get ready for some amazing ass-kissing, maybe they had a change of heart because the shoving-him-out-the-door looked sort of shitty, even by Cumulus standards.

Why force Radnich out now, and not wait until December? Also, whats the status of Fitz?
ReplyDeleteProbably because Cumulus, which is in a Chapter 13, was forced to cut salary and other expenses --I'm sure SF isn't the only market where high-riced talent will be let go...as for Fitzgerald he's probably gone too and I see more names being shown the door, NO ONE is safe.
DeleteDid Fitz “retire” as well? He’s no longer listed on the KNBR site as part of their program lineup. It now lists “The Rod Brooks Show,” which I’d imagine is what plays on the speakers at Peloton classes in Hell.
ReplyDeleteFitz is a goner --see above.
DeleteIs the decade's old Fitz/Papa beef still alive? Those 2 egos could never co-exist
ReplyDeletePersonally? Yes. Professionally, no, because they both work on Warriors pre and post game, so Papa has to work with him (Fitz)..actually, as the years have passed, they both deserve each other.
DeleteCumulus has to pay contract in full, which was up next year? Or they could pay a pro-rated severance amount and save $$$ with letting him go now.
ReplyDeleteProbably in full, my guess.
DeleteIf they have to pay contract in full, where are the cost savings? Gary always talks about "high overhead" would not make sense to settle for less. Strange.
DeleteEverything in radio is strange, Ron.
DeleteYou've reported here that Murph and Mac make a tonnn for what they are. Same with Tolbert. If Gary and Fitz can be shown the door, why not them?
ReplyDeleteTheoretically, you're right and while Murph and Crap have ratings, they are expendable. On the other hand they make a lot of money too, let's wait and see.
DeleteThey've been running a contest in the month of June to get people to tune in during Murph and Mac to hear a keyword of the day. Then you have to wait until 5pm for Tolbert and Lund to tell you who the winner is so you can call in within 20 minutes. Are their ratings so great that they need a gimmick to get people to listen?
DeleteBecause they're desperate and desperate people and radio stations do desperate things when in desperation.
DeleteAt the rate things are going, is KNBR in the long-run, being phased-out as a sports station by Cumulus & change to a new format but keep the Giants & 49ers broadcasts as chief revenue sources?
ReplyDeleteWith Cumulus everything is on the table and nothing would surprise me anymore... they're not done cutting but while far-fetched your theory has merit.
DeleteGet rid of Fitz please...
ReplyDeleteApparently Fitz is gone. We'll see if he goes to 95.7 eventually. Would be funny if this ends up being a Greg Papa for Fitz swap
DeleteRadio is toast.
ReplyDeleteKNBR lives and dies with the Giants. The G's are down right now so it does not matter Raddy or Papa, the ratings won't get better. My question is will Krug become a side-kick for Papa like Lund and Bonta ?
ReplyDeleteYes and it'll be TERRIBLE.
DeleteKrueger thinks he has a personality but he doesn't; he's also not funny. He played off Gary and was awful.
Papa is so full of himself and has no act beyond sports so it'll be awful
I'm wondering if they will re-pair Lund with Papa and shift Brooks to Tolbert giving Krueger a free few hours mid morning.
DeleteThe new lineup is Papa and Lund 10-2, Tolbert, Brooks and Krueger 2-6. Murph and Mac remain unchanged, ugh. Guess that also means Willard now starts at 6.
Delete@2:28- Thanks for the heads up. I wonder if having an opportunity to work with Lund again was a stipulation for Papa to leave 95.7 to join KNBR. They had a great rapport on 95.7, even though they joked around a little too much at times. Those same jokes might not play as well on KNBR.
DeleteWow, so KNBR will be having the same format as 95.7 for their main weekday shows throughout the day; Joe, Lo, and Dibs against Murph and Mac (and Bonnie Jill Laflin?), Papa and Lund against Bonta, Guru, and Steinmetz, Damon Bruce, Ratto, and Kolsky against Tolbert, Rod Brooks, and Larry Krueger.
It will be interesting to see how these shows stack up against each other in the same timeslots. The main test might be during football season when there will be heavy discussion on the Niners, and maybe even the Raiders.
Is the Bentley going to be okay?
ReplyDeleteYeah, but that oil change was put on the back burner.
DeleteWhen is Ronn Owens returning to KGO ?
ReplyDeleteSummer, 2040 from Midnite -5 AM.
Deletecould you see a scenario where this affect's marty lurie? just about the only thing i still make a point to listen to on knbore
ReplyDeletemiike -portland
No, because Marty Lurie has his own deal and sells his own spots, an independent contractor.
DeletePosts have been solid lately. Right on the mark. Wondering if you know what happened to the shrill to the microphones, Ben Fong-Torres? Not that I miss his self-serving, don't tell your readers shit columns, but just wondering? Did the Chronicle actually get smart and told him to pound sand?
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work...

MIA with no explanation --have actually missed the press releases.
DeleteDid anyone notice that Bonta took down his tweet regarding Papa? It was the tweet where he basically didn't like that he found out through other sources that Papa was leaving 95.7 for KNBR. I wonder if him and Papa reconciled/had a conversation after that tweet, or if the higher ups from 95.7 told him to take it down.
ReplyDeleteThat was the most pissed I've seen Bonta, even though you couldn't blame him for being mad at the time.

Now that Gary has been let go/retired from KNBR, how do you think their new weekday lineup will look like? Should Papa be paired with Krueger or should he be paired up with Rod Brooks whom he's worked with before in their Ticket 1050 days and on Raiders radio broadcasts on Ticket 1050, or should Papa have his own show?

Otis, I think KNBR is in the tank and that was Gary was around so I'm not an advocate. They run on the coattails of the Giants and 49ers. Their talk shows are a snoozefest.
DeleteI agree, their talk shows are kind of boring. We'll see if the new weekday lineup can give them more juice. If this doesn't work out, who knows what would happen next for KNBR as far as their weekday lineup is concerned.
DeleteYes, the Giants and the Niners do mean a lot to KNBR.
One last question for now, and thanks Rich for giving us a forum to ask some questions regarding this Bay Area radio shak, why becomes of Larry Krueger now that Gary is gone? Should Krueger look to move to 95.7 down the line? I feel he could be a good fit there. Him and Damon Bruce were good working together on Niners pregame back in 2011, 2012.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see if more comes from the Greg Papa move and Gary Radnich retirement, that will affect all the weekday shows on both stations.

Agree with Otis.
DeleteLarry Krueger and Damon Bruce were an excellent pairing.
And it came across the air.
The flow of the show was smooth and effortless.
@11:33- Thanks! Yeah, I totally agree. The pregame show flowed well, and Krueger and Damon both have that same passion for sports, and they both do a good job of breaking down a game.
DeleteBut yes, hopefully they will be reunited again at some point.
Larry recently re-signed but it's not guaranteed
ReplyDeleteOh ok, thanks Rich for the heads up
DeleteSad to see him tweeting that the choice was his to retire, after repeatedly saying that the business was changing with hiring lower paid staff to cut costs. Let's see if he leaves social media as Gary's credo has been "once you're gone your are gone".
ReplyDeleteI thought for years Fitz was a paid shill on KNBR for the Warriors. Did Lacob dump him when they moved to the Game?
ReplyDeleteRich, you NAILED it, as you do always ... as a former "inside" reporter for BA news (and currently working inside Calif Govt as "insider" for The Bee, I commend your dogged pursuit and ethics in pursuing this, and all other stories. I only ask this: PLEASE lay off Veronica De La Cruz ... she's Asian Goddess to me, so hands off ...
ReplyDeleteThanks Mr. Weinstein.
DeleteShe's only half-Asian!!
DeleteWe need to start calling Papa the Black Widow or something like that. Where ever he goes he leaves destruction.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he should work for Trump.
DeleteI wonder what the Bentley thinks of the current predicament at NBCSBA? No love lost for some of the staff? I can see the inane (though Emmy-laden) Amy G being roasted off the air by Radnich. Maybe the Bentley will start working for the Hairpiece.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, with Fitz gone from KNBR, and the Warriors retooling not just player personnel as they return to the City, are there still rumors that Fitz will be replaced by Ted Robinson? Would Jim Barnett stay were that to happen? Is Barnett in a Kruk predicament?
When will they get rid of dumb and dumber in the early AM?
