BACH TO LEAVE KGO

KGO-TV (ABC7) Weekend Sports Anchor, Mindi Bach will leave 900 Front and has decided to split the Sports TV News biz to accept a PR gig at a local High-Tech company, according to multiple sources within Circle7.

415 Media learned an announcement was made at the station last (Tuesday) night.

Bach has had stints at Comcast (now NBC Sports Bay Area) and KPIX.

When I first got word of this transaction I was nonplussed --Bach is a pleasant woman and friendly but not a very good sports anchor. Not a good anchor for that matter.

She consistently flubs her lines; she tries to be engaging on the air but it comes off as artificial and syrupy. It's just not that sincere.

My early opinion is that while Bach certainly knows sports, she probably saw the handwriting on the wall that her days as a #-2 sports anchor were waning and that she had ZERO chance of becoming a #-1, at least not here in the Bay Area.

  1. Bye Mindi, now if only Uverse would take her name off the A's post game show on NbcSports.

  3. Way to go, Mindy!

A piece on the many local newsers that have forsaken the tv biz to go be spokespeople and whether they are lasting, how they like it compared to old gig, etc would be a nice bit.

Priya David, John Sasaki, seems like there are a few others that I am blanking on.

    1. If you'd ever seen her in a pair of tight Sevens about ten years ago when I used to work there you wouldn't be saying that. The memory is indelible.

  9. I"m a former news reporter who left the business 10-years ago--for a PR/COmmunications gig which has taken me to the Bay Area.

Leaving the business is THE BEST thing I've ever done in my life. A previous comment mentioned weekends off. Yes...PLUS normal 8-5 work hours (any overtime is usually scheduled/tied to an event which is planned months in advance)...all state and federal holidays off...long lunch breaks...and the ability to go on vacation whenever I feel like it (provided it doesn't clash with some big event--which, again, is planned months in advance).

When I first left TV news, I felt like I shed my sense of self...and that viewers, co-workers, and the world in general would miss me. But I quickly realized that no one gave a damn! I realized no one cares about that scoop you got the night before...or about that fantastic live shot you did...and that, no, I wasn't a "local celebrity." I in turn don't give a damn about news anymore--and I find this VERY refreshing!
