You would think, in a city where too many times, a cause of death is undetermined and therefore, conspiracies abound.

And boy have conspiracies been abound in the Adachi case yet no one, no.one. has bothered to investigate the circumstances surrounding Adachi; the evening he died; the mystery woman who was with him (not his wife) and her whereabouts; the conduct of the police and how they handled the crime scene; crime scene?

Yeah, what the city officials first said was a crime scene before a voice in the SFPD PI division said, "there is no evidence of 'foul play'". Really? Then why were the cops knocking on the door, loudly, and shouting, "This is the police! Open up!" at the Telegraph Hill residence that was set up for Adachi's weekend the night he died. We still don't know why the cops were screaming at his doorstep. Wouldn't some reporter, TV/radio/newspaper, want to investigate?

There's more.

Who was the woman that was with Adachi and why did she suddenly disappear into the night, her whereabouts unknown to this date. I talked to an ex-police source who told me that the woman was from South America and went by the name, "Katarina" --presumably, she was a highline hooker. Supposedly, the cops know this yet we still have no idea whether she was involved in Adachi's death. One would think logically if a big city's Public Defender died under mysterious circumstances, some one would get to the bottom of it.

Dan Noyes of KGO-TV interviewed a woman who gave keys to Adachi on Telegraph Place for his rendezvous but that's about it.

"He died of an apparent heart attack," said a local radio reporter. Really, I haven't heard anything official. In fact, I've heard nothing official about Adachi's death but the cops didn't like him; did someone in the local press investigate the PD and their handling of the crime scene in Telegraph Hill where Adachi died? Hello, anyone home?

Phil Matier has been mum; then again, the Chronicle long ago gave up its investigative reporting to concentrate more on real estate pictures and where to get the best burrito in town.

A controversial figure like Adachi and his mystery lady not his wife collapses and dies? Eh, who cares!

Oh well.

  2. Yes, I don't like this blog's moaning and groaning about what media used to be like in the Bay Area. But we're a lot more informed and better off with Rich than without. We're moving into retirement, and finances are a struggle. I've sent in rather small subscription amounts a few times over the past several years. After losing this blog for a short period, I'm going to dig into our savings and try to come up with a lot more.
Living around San Fran isn't cheap. It'd be tough for Rich to do his job, I guess, working in the Philippines.

  3. Remember the punch line from that old joke, “honey, who are ya gonna believe, me or your lying eyes.”

  4. The SFPD hated Adachi.
They already leaked photos of the apartment taken that night. Expect them to also leak real and fabricate facts as well. They have already started the smear campaign. Rich, don't repeat gossip just because you sorta heard it from some guy who knows a guy. Try to resist.

  6. It's truly sad there's no actual reporting of anything in the Bay Area anymore except fluff entertainment "news". It's truly pathetic. The news we are given is like it was in the movie Good Morning Vietnam. It goes through lots of censors and nobody questions the information we are given

  7. Adachi obviously crossed a lot of people in his day. Hopefully, it didn’t catch up to him. Word on the street is ... Even though he was considered married. He didn’t live in the same house with his wife.

  8. Adachi repped the ricochet shooter who accidentally caused the death of Kate Steinle. The anti-immigrant deplorables might well have targeted a public defender for doing a good job.

    1. Repping as you call it was his fucking job. This site is overrun with right wingers who think the constitution only applies to them. When white US born terrorists carry out violence you are either silent or you defend it. This is another comment Rich will kill rather than publish a dissenting view of his fan club.

  9. Good point, Anon 3/6 @ 5:32pm. The Steinle case is a tragedy for everyone involved, including the immigrant who picked up a gun and accidentally destroyed many lives (his, Steinle's, her families' and friends'). He deserved a fair trial with the full defense allowed by law and he received it, thanks to the Public Defender's office. I hope that no one resented that so much that he/she took it out on Mr. Adachi, though that wouldn't really surprise me, sadly.

  10. And yet, it was determined to be NEWS that the West Point Cadet that died got his semen harvested. Now that was cheap, easy and sensational, so it was all over SF Gate, etc!!!

  11. Adachi death is like the story of Bruce Lee who died at another woman house and no one wants to discuss it again. Smart people comparing both cases know what is going on, but the power of not discussing about it or the truth will never be reveal, smart people can observe what is going on!!!
