Yeah, Bob Fitzgerald is Still Hated By Many; Robinson Has Offers; Friday Quick Opener

Bob Fitzgerald

*Let's be frank: The only reason why Bob Fitzgerald has been able to retain his Warriors' gig over the years is because he has a great ability to latch on to an important figure in the Dubs' organization. Fact: A good majority of current players on the Warriors can't stand Fitzgerald and his brown-nose disposition. That shouldn't be the basis for someone replacing him on the telecasts; it's Fitzgerald's blatant smarminess and egotistical manner that is prime reason he is detested by fans, media, and the like. Furthermore, his play-by-play is sapped with mindless trivial dreck on every broadcast and eternal cackle drives everyone on the planet, nuts. He should have been let go years ago.

*As for his KNBR show, Fitzgerald is a perfect corporate shill for both the radio station and its horrible owner, Cumulus. He is great at being in line for the cloud company never ridiculing the company that pays his freight nor allowing for any dissenting voice to question any various clients like the Warriors or Giants--any time a caller dares such action? The arrogant prick that is Fitz will begin that devastatingly horrific cackle with all the nuance of a Bakersfield French restaurant.

TED ROBINSON TIDBITS

Ted Robinson
*True to his loyal form, Ted is friendly with Fitzgerald (both Notre Dame alums) I like that Robinson is sensitive to a possible Warriors gig out of respect to Fitz. I'm not a Fitz fan (as you know) but I respect the fact he's thinking what happened to him shouldn't happen to others.

*Lost in the shuffle: Tim Ryan, the 49ers radio color analyst who will work alongside Papa, also got a lengthy contract extension and is considered one of the best, I agree.

*Robinson is good enough that offers from all over the sporting landscape will soon be coming Ted's way. Local and National offers.

*Jon Miller and rumors: that's all it is now but later on?

*RADNICH CONTRACT SITUATION: Two years and counting. Even he (Radnich) has made references (jokes) about his pending separation unless of course the ratings continue to maintain or if he's willing to take a massive pay cut. Cumulus doesn't care about local veterans. Ask Ronn Owens.

  1. Jeez, when you don't like someone, you really go after them like a "Pit Bull" continually.

    1. Not at all. Rich is merely stating the truth. The fact is Fitzgerald has been the most detested "personality" around for decades. How he's lasted is a testament to his suck up, slimy, weaselly ways and he's obviously fooled the right people. But the rest of us have smelled his odor for years and thankfully it is probable we'll have seen and heard the last from this poser wannabe.

    2. Agree with 4:30 poster.
I was listening to KNBR during the Christmas break and tuned into Bob Fitzgerald's program and heard him speak about some sports topic.
      OK, no problem I thought.
Then I began to hear him speak in his typical condescending and lecherous tone of voice.
I then realized how much I despise this hateful character.
      Lieberman's comments have merit.

    3. Bob Fitzgerald is the main reason I stopped listening to KNBR 5-6 years ago, I can't stand his arrogance...

  2. Good post, Rich.

I always thought he'd begin that devastatingly horrific cackle with all the nuance of a Oakland fried chicken restaurant.

  3. Fitzgerald has to go. He's horrible. He's everything you've said and more. He's pissed off nearly everyone he's worked with for many, many years. Karma is knocking on his door. Loudly. The door has to come down soon.

Robinson has nothing to worry about. He's got his NCAA football, NCAA men's hoop and high-level tennis gigs. While no one ever wants to be forced out of a job, it's not like he's going to be struggling professionally.

    1. 1:39, maybe that's all you need to know about Brooks. They are best buddies while at work. If true, then he's the same as his buddy.

Rod use to be good on his own at 1050 when he arrived from Texas. Around 1997 he told a funny moving story, moving from there to here.

  4. Look at the way Mike Shumann was treated. It does not surprise me that some don't like Bob Fitzgerald. Perhaps racism is afoot? Oh No!

  5. Rich, your observations on Fitzgerald are right on the money. His constant drivel is so annoying that the game is more enjoyable if you just mute it.

  6. Am I the only one who doesn't mind Fitzgerald? I think Robinson would be a step up, though, and since he doesn't have as much tennis on his plate as he used to (it's just the French Open now), I'd hope he ends up with another pro sports gig somewhere.

    1. I used to not mind him either but then I started to listen to him, and now I have the sound off

  7. Fitz's attitude reminds me of line from the movie "Dodgeball": "We're better than you, and we know it!"

    1. I liked Jim Barnett. I don't think he has to go. He's been in the NBA since '66.

    2. It's a delight to have Jim Barnett imparting his basketball knowledge. He knows the history and provides a connection to Wilt, Rick, Attles, and Nate.

  8. smarminess

    Perfect description of BF

Has there ever been a broadcast where a very good color man, Jim Barnett, is combined with someone oozing in smarminess...

  9. Regarding Radnich, if he eventually is out at KNBR if he doesn't get a contract extension, does anyone think KNBR would try to pry Greg Papa away from 95.7 now that he is going to the Niners radio play-by-play guy?

I doubt that happens as Greg Papa already told Bonta that he is going to stay on 95.7 when Bonta asked if Papa becoming the Niners play-by-play guy will affect his show on 95.7. Greg Papa and Larry Krueger would be an interesting pairing on KNBR, even though I think Papa would probably rather stay on in the early-mid afternoon hours and be reunited with Rod Brooks, then KNBR could move Fitz to the morning hours and have him with Krueger maybe?

  10. the only person who has a cackle as bad as fitzgerald would have to be chris townsend, who thank god hasnt been doing the warrior post game shows this season, not that matt steinment and daral johnson are any good either

  11. If the Warriors could show Shu the door, what are they waiting for with Fitz? Especially if the players ask to meet with Ted, then tell the executives responsible for PBP employment that they want Ted in and Fitz out.

  12. Fitz got to go, just arrogant Pillsbury dough boy. I hate for anyone to lose their job, but we have a world class team and ownership and a slimy asswipe as a broadcaster. Robinson is just a nice man, talented broadcaster with no ego. You would like him to be your next door neighbor

  13. couple of differences between radnich and owens

    1) one of them is lucid
    2) one of them has ratings

hint: 1 and 2 is the same person, and it's not Owens.

  14. I am not a big fan of Fitzgerald. Having said that, I do think that he does an adequate job with the Warriors broadcasts. Most of the loathing about him on this site feels personal. I get it. It is show business but for God's sake, do not bring in Robinson. He is dull, pedestrian and not as knowledgeable about the Warriors as Fitz. My experience of Warriors' broadcasters goes back to Hank Greenwald . I do not understand the sudden desire for Robinson to have the job. Maybe he owes a lot of people money and they just want him to have an income. I fear that the Warriors brass, who have wanted to tinker with the broadcast team in the past, may try again. I hope not.

  15. I turn off the sound when Bob Fitzgerald mouth opens

  16. Thank God for Youtube! I can watch the Warrior games on the visiting teams station and they are infinitely better! For years I've had to watch with the volume off. Listening to Fitz is like listening to a 12 year old kid call a game.
