Take a Breath and Be Glad You Made It to '19; 415 Media Liners

Image result for back from the holidays OH DEAR LORD, Mickey Luckoff, , the ex-KGO Radio boss, will be one of the speakers at the Ray Taliaferro Memorial Jan. 12th at the Commonwealth Club; wonder whether Luckoff will tell the gathering how much he hated Ray and how they barely talked for over thirty years; I'm guessing, like Ronnnnnnnn, the BS will be rampant.

*John Rothmann was subbing for Ethan Bearman on KGO the past two nights proving once again why the hell there is an Ethan Bear!man on KGO to begin with.

My theory? Tofu wins.

*KFOG is not only irrelevant but baseless too. Again I ask, is there anyone else who listens to that garbage? Raise your hand. I thought so.

*Dave Morey knew what he was doing.

*Allen Martin at PIX: if Claudine Wong worked with you there'd be the first ever "no-smiling-ever" contest with Wong pulling out a hard-fought victory in the stretch.

*The Foodie Chap: slightly more interesting then the "Ronn Owens Report."

*As I mentioned, Ronnnnnn too will be one of the speakers at the Ray T memorial telling the assembled how much he loved Ray. Sure Mr. Lowenstein, while Jack Swanson and Luckoff fall to the floor in laughter.

*Ronn, take a deep breath and tell the throng how you bad-mouthed Ray for the better part of thirty years except for the fake praise at the Cure-a-Thon.  C'mon, you cleanse your mind; it'll be like getting your mani/pedi on Union Street nirvana.

*Another guy that Ray despised but will be at the memorial: Willie Brown. Why? Think Arts Commission San Francisco, circa 1970's and early 80's.

*If Ray were alive today he would tell people to 86 the memorial and instead have a couple of high balls at the Fairmont Hotel while listening to Vernon Alley.

*Possible 2019 scenario: Trump resigns --KGO's Ethan Bearman on tape talking about the history of European cheese cake.

*Put the Foodie Chap and Chef Ryan Scott in a locked room first time ever arugula boxing match.

*New 2019 KRON slogan: "We still love patio furniture--don't you?"

*I'm guessing Vern Glenn read the reviews here and has slightly modified the Gary act but still shuffling papers on the desk.

See ya later.

  1. Right-O about KFOG. I worked there (briefly) when Dave Logan was Program Director and staff included Dave Morey, "Lee Baby" Sims, Scoop Nisker and others whose names hide just behind my pre-frontal cortex. A great station to listen to *and* to work for. If Tony da Snake hadn't fired so many great people on his whim, Logan might still be there today, changing with musical tastes, not fighting against them like too many of today's PD-in-name-only types (whose stations are programmed by the same central system at the corporate office).

Still and all, Thanks for the memories and the music, KFOG!

    1. Sims was fired after a Rock 'n Bowl gig when Salvatore inadvertently consumed one of Lee Baby's electric cookies and subsequently saw the devil in a mirror... And that marked the beginning of the end, which would have come much sooner were it not for the likes of M. Dung & other dedicated music lovers who believed in "quality without compromise". Kind of like happenings ten years time ago at the ROQs of Los Angeles -- 1500AM, Burbank & 106.7FM, Pasadena. Rich, you would have loved the KROQ Pasadena Hilton studio's "Wall of Flesh"! And Bob Gowa "worked there (briefly)" as well. Release the cassette tapes, Bob. Let Rich & others hear the "Mother Roq" air waves flow...

    2. Uh, Jerry, that wasn't 10 years ago at KROQ,
, it was in the 1970s. BEST and most fun two years of my (misspent) youth ;-)

    3. "Um Gowa, Da Wonda"... Did my literal reference go over your head? With the Yardbirds "Happenings 10 Years Time Ago", the singer is reflecting on events of the past, "sinking deep into the well of time" and wondering if the spacey dreamlike events actually happened. As I've noted, Bob, it would be very cool if you'd release your KROQ show cassette tapes to share "the memories & the music" from the "BEST and most fun two years" of your early career. KROQ's mid-70s AM-FM simulcasts from the Pasadena Hilton "suite" studios were artistically adventurous and wonderfully wild! They most assuredly deserve a place among Rich Lieberman's free-form "progressive" radio archives.

  2. "except for the fake praise at the Cure-a-Thon"
    We remember that well.
Little Ronn Owens giving false praise to Ray Taliferro at the conclusion of the Cure a Thon.
A prime example of Ronn's insincerity.
    It was sickening.

  3. Rich, I sure hope you're right about Vern. I may not switch from KPIX next time he's on just to see for myself.

The upside of Oakland's NFL team moving to Vegas is that we might not have to hear "The Raidaaaaaahs!" out of him anymore.

  4. I'd rather hear phony Ronnnnnnnnnnnn than Ethan, Chip or Ryan. Ethan and Chip should get together and eat Ryan, then KGO would be better

    1. Not so fast. I heard the podcast from his Afternoon Delight show on 95.7 The Game. He sounded understated out of respect for Ted Robinson whom Papa is replacing.

    2. Someone who has looked good lately next to Vern is Lorenzo Neal. He brings the energy as a football analyst.

  6. I actually rather like KFOG, it's filling the gap with what CBS has done to Live 105 re branding it and getting rid of pretty much every good DJ and on air personality late last year, I mean seriously Elvis in the morning the guy is cringe and a bad fit for an alternative station. thing about Alternative is the millennial's (my generation) are all in their 30's now so the market is there for Alternative esp if they play the good stuff from the 90's and 00's and KFOG is filling that much more than the station formerly known as Live 105.

  7. I'm sure you have heard about our radio friend Michael Savage receiving a very crazy, very violent death threats via email a few days ago. Someone is demanding that a certain restaurant refuse to serve Savage any longer. In other words, more of the unhinged, Taliban-Liberal-Progressives running loose here lately.
My side is not doing this with any regularity. It's the Democrats who resort to violent speech and actions when they don't immediately get their way. Sad, Sick and Stupid to treat an old man this way.
Mike has placed himself in an 'undisclosed location' until further notice. I will say a prayer for Mike this evening.

  8. Vern can do all the modifying he wants, he'll always be the PIX clown. His act is as old as he is.

  9. Julie Watts (KPIX) is to be commended for the exceptional reporting on DNA testing which revealed some disturbing consequences of this growing phenomenon. Emmy-worthy investigating and reporting all around everyone involved all,
