Medical issues are a personal/private issue and we may never hear of an outcome. I do wonder if N. Zouves will ever return to work and how she's doing. KGO was still recently running ads showing her presence, so I'm hopeful. Regarding the southern Calif. rumor, I can't see any employer taking on a new employee who's currently on some type of work disability until the medical issues are somehow resolved/determined.
I was glad to see V. De La Cruz back to work on KPIX, who apparently had a similar injury of a concussion. RL, if you've any word, I'm sure you'd let us know.
Not really, KGO introduce the extended hours of 11:00 News without her name on the website. I hope she never comes back, Jessica Castro is much better, better voice and knows what she is doing professionally as a reporter. She is a great replacement.
I'm interested your take on "Tranny-gate" with Marcus Thompson and Tim Kawakami. After the Athletic's apology, they laid off twitter for several days...including an NFL weekend. They have not commented on it after their hiatus. The Warriors claim that MT2 made the whole thing up. MT2 said it was a "joke", but its unclear who he said made the joke. TK is the editor and theoretically checks MT2's work and let it through. The cozy relationship between MT2 and Steph Curry (the book that he is always promoting) seems like a ethical gray area. ITs only sports, but still.
To be honest, I'm not a MT fan nor a TK fan. They both reek of extreme egoism and as far as The Athletic is concerned it's mostly just sports guck; not into it. Someone here I'm sure will know.
Met TK twice. He is as you say. Shared an elevator with him at the media entrance at shark tank. Poor little Napoleon. The weight of the chip on his should almost put him down.
Are you watching the same tv that I am? Tell ya what, you take Rosemary, I'll take Kyla and Heather any day of the week. https://www.facebook.com/KylaWeather/photos/a.300603840056076/1911824718933972/?type=3&theater
We usually get weather people from Salinas or Sacramento. This chick is from The Weather Channel and she actually knows what she's talking about. No mumbling and stumbling like the usual KTVU crowd. There are entire websites dedicated to how "hot" she is. Personally I will watch because she gets the weather right (and is hot!).
Three questions: Whaddya know about the Athletics radio situation? Will we be subjected to another year of Jolly Jon Miller and his self-serving self on KNBR? And do you think the Warriors will stay on The Game? Thanks and keep up the good work.
1. I'm leaning KSFO but I have no idea; they (the A's) might buy their own frequency. 2. Yes, Miller is due back. 3. The Warriors are not long for the Game but you'll have to wait a month for a future column. Thanks for the compliment.
hmm thats very interesting you don't think they will be able to keep the warriors, they talk about/promote/ and brown nose them all day, unlike the a's who they wouldnt lift a finger to promote.. get ready for more stale already told boring stories from miller who has been phoning it now for the last several years
Rich, do you know what Patrick Connor is up to? He definitely screwed up, but I really respected his work ethic. I'm hoping someone has given him a second chance. Thanks.
I'm not as sympathetic as you are; it's a matter of taste. Last I checked he was doing Internet sites like that barstool gig. As far as a second chance considering his "hot ass" remark, I doubt any terrestrial station.
They stink. They're old. They're getting more stale. That said, they still make money for the company which says a lot about the current crop of listeners KNBR is longing to hold onto but nothing lasts forever, most especially the fake New Jersey guy's awful sound drops.
Sacramento does not WANT Dunn to return; they filled her KCRA AM traffic girl post with a veritable HOTTIE, who also does Weather once she finishes schooling. What's Dunn completed? AAA course for traffic hacks?
What was wrong with Jaclyn Dunn? How is fat Gianna an improvement? Did KPIX promise Gianna her job back after her babies were in pre-school? I don't see any reason for the change.
The new weather lady on KTVU seems quite accomplished with a hell of a resume in that particular field. A great pick up for those of us in the industry that actually know.
Do you feel the lanky beaner on KTVU is feeling threatened? Looks only last so long and she's starting to look a little weathered. She could always pick up a job in Fresno or Tijuana.
And yet you responded and had a jolly old time knocking her a few comments up where the guy called her haggard looking (which is just plain ridiculous). You didn't call him out for that nonsense.
I thought guys like you didnt exist today Rich, but I was wrong.
Can you tell me what the hell is going on with our local TV news stations? All of them seem to get the wrong graphic, wrong story, dead air time, wrong camera shot for anchors and so on...Radio is not much better with wrong stories.
It's called personnel, circa 2018 with unskilled workers manning or (not manning) their craft and cheap broadcast companies little regard for quality work. Been happening for years sad to say.
They're trying to do a lot more with a lot fewer people. In addition to the things you've observed, they also stretch by having much more weather, which basically just stretches the same amount of info over more time, having anchors and sportsguys yammer on about this or that to fill time (KTVU is particularly guilty of this), and repeat stories or do "non-stories" dressed up to look like stories. If you look critically at much of what's broadcast today, it's just advertisements ("A new Starbucks opened in the Financial District, and we sent Jane Doe Reporter down there to taste the coffee. —Jane?") and "human interest" stories ("Some brown-skinned person saw their home vandalized [we won't say by more brown-skinned people because that would be real reporting]. Aren't you SAD?") This is because you have to pay people to get real news, so they put stuff on that looks like news but really isn't.
There used to be a guy named Chuck Harder (recently deceased) who had a show on shortwave and satellite in the mid nineties saying the exact same thing. This hollowing out of the business has been going on for a very long time.
Media is soon to be in a free fall. We have too much of it. Once Trump leaves office, there's going to be a consolidation in cable news. At least one network will completely disappear. MSNBC can be reformatted (some would say that has already begun) and Fox has sort of woven itself into the culture with all the personalities but CNN has become something of an orphan. Randy Stephenson says owning a news network doesn't fit into the AT&T corporate profile. His board will eventually make him sell it. Moonves was said to be interested in it at one time and we know the two organizations have shared news operations off and on over the years. CBS would come on board swinging the axe.
Not just local. I'm seeing fuck ups from the majors that in the past would have never been tolerated but today are a regular occurrence. The business is dead.
Hi Rich, Is Fitzgerald getting worse doing the play by play. for the Warriors. First I find it unusual that a play by play guy also plays commentary, and I am no basketball fan but not a expert and everything that comes out of mouth a third grader would know. Jim Barnett at least he states his opinion and it's actually solid info and learn from it.
Thanks for the response Rich, I meant I am a basketball fan, but I don't pretend to be a expert. I now watch the games with the sound down. We have a world class team and a crappy play by play guy. Oh well things could be worse and worser
Can you name the members of that notorious news team that KPIX trotted out in the mid-70's of which Milt Kahn is the only one I can remember. I think he was replaced with Jan Hutchins. I recall their "innovative" news format was touted as the "the new big thing" in news. I recall we watched only to laugh at how goofy and bizarre it was.
Because of PIX's recent 70th anniversary - last Saturday - names from the past did pop up. Newswise, alongside Williams, there were Ed Arnow, Belva Davis (who stayed at PIX through 1982, then KRON, & KQED), Lynne Joiner, Bill Schecnner (who RL mentioned in a previous post), and the call letter voice of the station who also did reporting Bill Hillman (one of the originals). Sportswise, Hutchins didn't back up Wayne Walker long; went to KRON for sports, then became KICU's news anchor before entering a New Age Buddhism business career (was also KGO Radio analyst for Joe Starkey during the lateral-lateral-lateral-lateral year of 1982).
Y'all are forgetting Barry Tompkins who became Sports Director in the early 70's at PIX.. I saw his maiden broadcast. Didn't go too well and he ended up making a painful face like he had just bit into a lemon, not realizing he was still on camera. He settled down and had quite a run at PIX before moving on..

Since there was mention of Ben Williams and Belva Davis, here's an interview with the late Ben Williams where he speaks with much affection for Belva Davis. He looks so serene in his retirement. https://diva.sfsu.edu/collections/sfbatv/bundles/229280
It was the "Tuck and Fortner Report" or perhaps that was its subheading to "Eyewitness News." The dark haired guy was Gene Tuck. I can't even remember what Fortner looked like or his first name. Milt Kahn, OTOH, is a Bay Area newscast legend, and not because he was good at sports reporting. Wasn't it after this trainwreck that Dave & Wendy came on the (news) scene at KPIX?
As for the A's radio future, they should buy their own station. Don't try to rely on some birdbrain management to override your choice of programing. Be all in on A's. A good start would be to explore 860 (KTRB I think) purchase or get favorable programing time at KSFO.

Ironically, the host who uses the most female voices is Damon.
Many today are without a contract at various stations. Some of the names are very big and would surprise you. Most of them are over 45. Meanwhile, idiot news directors like Trixie throw money at 28-year-old idiots from Fresno because they can tweet.
Wild sceneraio...Bonneville does a switch with Family Radio having them get 99.7 FM and in return Bonneville getting 610 in a swap then switching to All Sports along with the A's broadcasts...seems wild but some Bonneville stations do run Sports programming...

Claudine Wong observation...... have seen your previous mentions about her lack of a smile on the air, never thought of her as a major "piece of A..." not on the level as the other blonde club DIVA and her club attire.... saw her on a one on one long interview chat with a deaf immigrant, I think on Christmas Day, OMG, she was dressed in a tight black cocktail type of dress! Thinking the videographer on purpose shot at the "voyeur angle" she kept on crossing her legs, thus resulting on her dress hemline rising, way up.... nice upper tighs, NICE!!!! firm and tight and at the same time I realized the angle of her cleavage, IMO she is better than the CLUB gal on the eyes, not trying to seem perverted, just an objective observation.
