"WE'RE IN CHARGE NOW!" --Those weren't the exact words but close enough. As his TV News career ended at KRON and a subsequent vacation tried to ooze the bleeding (metaphorically speaking) it was back to work in radio for market veteran sports figure, Gary Radnich, who was given a closed-door lecture and in effect, told, "your KRON activity is not allowed here." KNBR -Cumulus

Radnich was told he was no longer calling the shots and to be more "active" at KNBR where he does his morning show alongside Larry Krueger.

Cumulus pays the freight and Radnich's $400K a -year salary is tops at the station but so as long as the ratings are good and advertising numbers either maintain or grow, which are humming now even though the Giants are fading fast and the 49ers are just beginning. Without the Warriors KNBR then has to mostly rely on its air talent and that's where the trouble begins. Especially mid-morning, early evening with second-tier guys running the platform. It's always been men, men, men at Knibber --they don't have any women demo because, for one, there is no women on KNBR, which believes in all-white, all-Irish, all-guys, 24-7. That's a progressive business model for the times (I'm being sarcastic)

Back to the main focus, Radnich had a closed-door meeting with PD, Jerimiah Crowe, who invoked the Cumulus directive, "If we pay you, we expect you to add more to the company." To which Radnich literally laughed and did his best Gary Radnich line, "what's the matter? I show up and do a show at 10 to 1--that's not good enough?" NO, Gary, they want more and guess what? They (Cumulus) holds the cards.

Radnich has no options. He isn't making the money like he did in the old days when the combination of his TV and radio ventures paid him good enough cash to enjoy luxury cars and make sure his oldest, current daughter (from second wife, Alecia) to attend Columbia University. That's a lot of dough.

So Radnich better hope, pray, that his ratings remain strong and, more importantly, acknowledge the Cumulus mentality where no one is bigger than the bottom line.

  1. More fake news.

Radnich will be jussst fine. I can name 3 tv stations that would line up for him if he decided to go back on air. I can name 2 radio stations that would take him in a heartbeat. Radnich will not go hungry any time soon.

  3. Radnich reminds me of Ralph, who just became lazy and was no longer a student of sports. Both Krueger and Tolbert follow sports and Gary and Ralph lived in the past. Who cares if Gary could name 1967 Yanks starting position players

    1. He can't name 5 A's or half of the healthy pitchers on the Giants 2018 staff. Not unusual, but for the "king of bay area sports" is pathetic.

  4. Who is he suppose to "prey" for? On?

  5. Let's just hope his arrogance doesn't get the better of him. I like Gary, but let's face it, he's been mailing it in for years now. He doesn't come in prepared like Larry and he never gives the listeners his true thoughts. He ALWAYS passes it to either Larry or Kate when she was around back in the day. When was the last time Gary was seen at a sporting event? My guess is his days are numbered. KRON cut him loose, KNBR will do the same too at some point.

  6. I can't wait until KNBR issues a press release naming a new 10-1 host to work with Larry. Better yet, fire both losers and start over!

  7. Poor guy has to work for the first time in a long time. Gold-digger Alicia might even need to get a job as an Uber driver or open a wing of their mansion as an Airbnb. Hey, I hear Peets is hiring.

  8. Rich, what in Sam Hill are you gonna do when Radnich finally retires or starts selling Bit-Coin Futures for a living?
Who then, will be your favorite nemesis? I don't mean Jan Wahl either.
