My Two Cents Monday; Dumb KTVU 'Questions'; Lightweight Holly Quan on KCBS; Finney Star Appeal on KGO-TV; CNN Still Covets (Maybe) KNTV's McSweeney; Papa Preached to Gruden For Job; Miller Status Iffy for '19 Giants

Image result for my two centsTHE STAR QB IS GONE; we pretty much expected that; unfortunately, the big news that superseded everyday news here was how some non-sports TV News anchors showed they should just throw it to the sports guy and shut up.

On KTVU, anchor Alyana Gomez asked Joe Fonzi about "what's in store for the '49ers new QB?" Which would have been a OK question had Gomez hear Fonzi just five seconds earlier when he (Fonzi) said exactly how new (presumably) guy, CJ Beathard, would perform.

Gomez, so transfixed on asking the question to Fonzi (per new Fox guidelines) she forgot to use her ears. It looked and sounded so awkward.

*Speaking of which: if KTVU wants its anchors to ask questions to reporters it would be nice if the anchor actually asked an intelligent question and not some dumb waste of time artificial crap that looks and sounds contrived and fake. Viewers are not that dumb and when they see BS they know BS. KTVU anchors--not all, but a good portion--don't have the goods down on asking relevant questions to their reporters in the field.

*Holly Quan on KCBS? How and why?

*KPIX reporters in the field. I joke they come from Fresno off the bus but I'm shortchanging Greyhound.

*Michael Finney doesn't have the biggest name in local TV News but as far as useful, most-needed and popular as they come, Finney is right up there. He gets a significant number of viewers and his consumer advice is very much needed and right on. He doesn't fake it at all. In fact, he's right there in the fox hole. I know because I constantly get viewer feedback via my e-mail. KGO might want to get his contract re-up on the fast track.

*Any day now. CNN is about to snatch away KNTV (NBC Bay Area) weekend anchor, Terry McSweeney --they already tried hard, but McSweeney doesn't want to leave the Bay Area. Unless of course, CNN offers Wolf Blitzer money.

*Here's the dumbest thing about KTVU's new Thursday-Sunday schedule for its primetime news anchors: the sole purpose of the Sunday start is to take advantage of Fox's NFL (NFC) football viewership lead-in only KTVU doesn't use Somerville and Haener at 6. Instead they do their first newscast at 10 and 11. Dumb. I mean, what's the point?

*Wayward home for disgruntled sports anchors: NBC Sports, Bay Area. Dave Feldman stays away from Greg Papa (and vice versa); Brodie Brazil stays away from Kelli Johnson (same thing, Papa); you want real institutional morale abyss, just come into this house of horrors.

*Papa thought his longtime buddy, Jon Gruden, would tell Mark Davis to back off; only Gruden was too busy xing his contract and essentially told Papa sorry, dude.

*Next on the KRON hitlist: Darya Folsom. She's going have to actually work for a living now. The boyfriend ND isn't a safeguard anymore because he too is on the list. No more lifetime security.

*Better than 50% chance that Jon Miller won't be back in the Giants' broadcast booth come 2019.

NO MORE PLEDGE BREAKS, BUT...

  1. > Michael Finney doesn't have the biggest name in local TV News...

Vacar is as jealous of him as can be, I'll tell you that.

  4. I heard that 1 or 2 KPIX reporters actually arrived via amtrak.

  5. Has Jessica Flores taken Greyhound or Amtrak back to wherever?
She was fun to watch, mistakes and all.

  6. McSweeney absolutely LOVES the Bay Area. He left once before; I don't think he'll leave again. I knew him back in the "old" KNTV-ABC days--and he's living the TV/"personal" life that he dreamed about back then. He was a good dude back then--and presume he still is. I haven't kept in touch with him (I now live in LA), but back then it was never about money. He loves the Bay Area...and loves his SF Giants.

  7. How does Darya Folsom get away with openly banging her boss? Cray-cray because these days that's basically a prison sentence! Happens nowhere unless its kept on the DL...

  8. What's wrong with Holly Quan? Always sounds professional and has done a great job for many years. Seems like you're just bashing to bash. If you're going to be critical, how about basing it on something?

  10. Folsom has a terrible reputation. I mean loathed as a total scum bag. Zero credibility. When her man (equally as disgusting) gets the boot - she is finished too, and will never work in this market again. RIP
