*A Good Many Bay Area TV News stations will roll out new, different presentations come fall; specifics aren't known right now but you can expect more anchors standing and reading copy from places other than the desk--as if standing positions are something radical--they're not. In fact, KTVU and KGO do it frequently now on some of their newscasts--so does KRON. KPIX hardly ever but in September, something huge is planned. Again, I don't know but low ratings and decreased ad revenue has dictated change. Doesn't it always? Uh huh.

*Watching Ronn

Ronn Owens continues to lobby upper management at KGO for a Monday-Friday gig; not the 8-minute vignette that he does on the station to be relevant. In fact, Owens almost daily talks to the Cumulus suits to petition a morning show built around news-talk interviews and his buddies from the East Coast which wouldn't be such a bad thing if Ronnnn was circa 1999. He isn't. But Ronn's best friend is Ethan Bearman who pollutes the airwaves and makes loud noises with his fake takes and political amateurism. Worse, Bearman pretends to do a Bay Area show while he pollutes from LA where he does his program.

*The Oakland A's are actively looking for a new flagship radio station in the Bay Area for 2019 because they'd prefer to be mentioned every now and then --currently, their FM outlet, 95.7 'The Game', talks more about the Giants and 49ers. It has nothing to do with what's more caller-driven. When the Giants were World Series genre, sure they elicit more ratings and interest. Not today. And the Raiders are a foot and a half out the door to Vegas.

*Is it mandatory that PIX has to hire the most ANNOYING, irritating, shrieking, giggling fill-in morning weather women? Like if some guy from Akron was available and just did a quick, simple report and forecast that's against the law? I can't stand the every day nauseating screeching woman on TV and KCBS because they sound like chirping cheerleaders from the valley with all the authenticity from a French restaurant in a Lodi strip mall.

Image result for Kate Larsen KGO
Kate Larsen
*Speaking of nauseating and terribly phony people, we bring you KGO-TV's insincere Kate Larsen. I congratulate her on being a new mommy but her presentation is horrible, pathetic and ridiculous. That's just for starters. Hey Kate, if that's your real voice try doing impressions. Immediately. Look in the mirror and pretend you're, I don't know, take a pick, Cecilla Vega. (Impossible, I know but I'm in a hurry). Why are these nitwits on TV? Does management give a damn anymore or is it just institutional incompetency? Larsen is a gigantic, colossal, annoying Sunday morning catastrophe with all the grace of a Yuba City Arby's.

*Maybe the new GM at KGO-TV might want to get the hell out of his office and actually watch the newscasts he supposedly is in charge but is too busy playing golf and taking three-hour lunches. It's not all that odd given the fact his News Director still rules with fear and intimidation --that is, when she's not telling supreme jerk, Larry Beil, how wonderful he is.

Beil's the kind of guy who steps on ants and thinks high of himself. A 55 year-old punk.

Image result for Larry Beil Ama Daetz KGO
Larry Beil (left), Ama Daetz and a nutty guy
*More Beil: uh, schmucko, it's not wise to openly hit on Ama Daetz (like you did on the 4 PM newscast Monday) not that flirting is taboo but arrogant Beil did it --WITH AUTHORITY! and it sort of looked creepy.

Beil still hasn't called Mike Shumann but talks behind his back like a first wife's club lunch in Mill Valley.

*Pam Cook: maybe it's because I know a lot about him and you know I know, right Pammo?

*Frank Somerville: quit talking to Ibanez because it could be hazardous --Mark is a male yenta.

And Mark, yo, if you choose to have sporadic lunches with Heather Holmes maybe it would be a good idea to have it off the beaten path.

Julie Haener: Bill Martin's personal snitch.

Memo that!

*Very bold of Pam to block me on Twitter as if I give a damn about your 21-day-old tweets and pictures of you and your cats. Get real, Pammo. Go outside and take a walk near the estuary and comprehend REAL LIFE and real pictures and not think you're some Andrea Mitchell of KTVU. You're actually sort of more like a washed-up Cheryl Jennings and that's saying a lot.

*KTVU newsroom: Even the interns are bored. The Firm needs to take action. Show old video of Lloyd LeCuesta playing tennis.

*Every time you watch a KTVU anchor do a follow-up question to a reporter in the field be advised that 99% of the time, A. they just ask to ask. B. they have no idea of what they're asking. C. it would be downright terrific if they actually ad-libbed a decent question as opposed to the artificial bullshit currently en vogue...right Frank? Julie? Heather?

*Most knowledgeable person at KPIX: Paul Deanno. Wasted on weather.

*Ronnn factoid: never mentioned Wattenburg. Putz.

  2. I'm fairly certain that '95.7, The Game' covers the Giants more than the A's because, guess what...there's more interest in the Giants than the A's. It doesn't matter that the A's have the better team this year. The Giants have a 5X larger fan base vs. the A's, have 10X better ballpark vs. the A's and market the team (by keeping stars around) such that fans can have an emotional attachment and continuity with the team vs. something disposable that gets blown up every season. The only way this changes is if the A's make a deep run in the post-season (and the Giants don't)...not an impossible scenario, but not likely.

  3. As an A's fan, I'm disgusted by the lack of attention and respect given to the them by their supposed "flagship station", yesterday I listened to Papa and his idiot sidekick, almost all 49ers, at least while I was listening. I heard nothing about A's - newsflash, the A's are the most exciting, compelling story in MLB this year and these morons don't talk about them, unbelievable. I can only assume Papa is trying to get a job with the Giants or 49ers. Please A's, go to another station where you get some damn respect.

  4. Ethan Bearman..such a phony! And once you know he's not broadcasting from the bay area, and listen to his show, it's obvious he's hiding that he's not local. Truly disingenuous. Also, he just sounds dumb. Fake+stupid=Ethan Bearman.

    1. To quote a previous post on an earlier thread:

Glad you brought up Bearman. What a dultz!

I can listen to his show on Monday and again on Friday and it will be the same drivel. Bash Trump, Bash Trump, Bash Trump administration.

He drones on and on about nothing and on and on and on and on. You get the point.

I'm no fan of Trump to be clear but bearman is a lunatic playing a part. Acting. And most of you don't get it! What does that say about your critical thinking? Not much.

He is in LA and broadcasts from an LA studio, not the Bay Area but pretends to be a part of our community which is insulting to me. KGO insults me as well letting this fraud go on.

He is great about calling out a hypocrite yet Bearman was all right wing when subbing for Sussman on KSFO. Hypocrite? Yep. The worst kind and in his own words, "I can be whatever you need me to be."

The guy is a worm and all you fools that buy his crap are fools. Live with it.

    2. Doesn't anybody in KGO management even listen to Bearman? He sounds like some loonie who just wandered into the studio from a downtown SF street corner. He starts out speaking normally, then within minutes he's shouting and screaming like a psycho. Then he'll adopt a cartoonish voice to represent an opposing point of view and start debating himself. And he does this consistently during his show. How is this kook still even on the air?

    3. 5:11. I was trying to describe what you posted but you did a much better job than I could have. He sounds like he is in the radio club at school. Get rid of this childish fraud.

The last 10 minutes of Ronn at the end of his show is more interesting than his entire 2.5 hours.

    4. When I first meet Bearmann he was telling his producer... "oh yeah, I can play it either way, whatever they want. Right wing or left." I turned around and walked back into the newsroom. No need to tell him what we were covering. He's an actor not a talk show host. All good hosts, no matter their persuasion are good because they have a core of beliefs and values they've come to believe in over time. Gene Burns, Ronn, even the nasty Savage all have a core that makes them consistent in their views. If you are just playing then anything you say will come across as hollow, because it is.

    1. All of that on-field performance and excitement isn't attracting very many people to the Coliseum. The A's are second to last in attendance in the American League. And many who have attended are fans of the VISITING teams (especially when they play Boston, NYY, the Giants, and likely during the upcoming series with the Dodgers).

A's fans talk a lot of shit, but they don't show up at the ballpark to support their team.

      Delete
    2. Where are their fans? Certainly not at the ballpark. If it wasn't for Giants, the Bostons and Yankees their attendance would be 25% lower.

      Delete
    3. Hey Giants fans, it seems the only thing you have over the A's is a better ballpark and attendance, I guess I don't blame you for constantly bringing this up considering the A's are a better team with about a third of the payroll. Enjoy the rest of the season, I know I will.

  6. "Why are these nitwits on T.V.?" Because the lot of them are sellout propagandist whores and have been since Walter Cronkite said Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. State run propaganda brought to by George Bush and Barack Obama, who during their terms established network tv news as entertainment vehicles and not required to report facts and can even fabricate news legally.

Obama signed an EO before he headed out the door which allowed the Pentagon to legally disseminate controlled news/propaganda through these same networks.

And those aware to such like myself are a threat to the legacy media, who can no longer compete on an even playing field and have now recently resorted to shaming Big Tech into a censorship purge to keep the MSM relevant. 2. 12:10 - you seriously think I support an a-hole tightwad like Fisher? I'm an A's fan, not a John Fisher fan. I said on a post a week or two ago, go check out attendance comparisons b'tween the A's and Giants in the late 80's/early 90's when the Giants were still at Candlestick. It's the ballpark, not complicated.

I had season's tickets at Candlestick, and also went to a lot of A's games, during that period. Ah, I wish I were young (with extra bucks and energy) again! I actually have a great deal of appreciation for the hardcore A's fans who have stuck out the FO "frugality," put up with media slights, and have bought tickets in spite of the stadium conditions.

I hope Fischer opens up the purse strings, and I also hope you and the A's get your/their stadium. IMO, MLB in the Bay Area is much better with the two teams and the burgeoning rivalry between said.

  12. "When the Giants were World Series genre, sure they elicit more ratings and interest. Not today."

Not today?? Don't be so obtuse, Rich. How many times does this simple fact need to be explained? 95.7 spends more time talking about the Giants over the A's based on the math. Average Giants attendance this year is nearly 39K while the A's average just over 18K (per ESPN). For local TV broadcasts, Giants game typically garner a 3.4 rating while the A's average a .07 share. It's so rare for the A's to break a 1.0 share that when it happens, people like Brodie Brazil tweet about it. Whether A's fans like it or not, the local sports radio guys are going to talk about what gets the bigger numbers. That's business 101. If the Sharks were selling out every game and doing big TV ratings, you'd hear wall to wall Sharks talk. Hasn't anyone noticed that the Giants get a hour long pregame and a Outsiders show while the As get only a half hour and no Outsiders show?

Now 10:59 can say "Please A's, go to another station where you get some damn respect.", but what makes you think going to another station will get the A's respect? There's only 2 sports stations and we all know the A's aren't going to KNBR. So no matter what station the A's end up on, it will likely be a situation the Sharks have now which is a half-hour game preview and a 15 minute high-light wrap up. Unfortunate as it is, the A's a probably best served remaining with 95.7, a sports station, rather than going to a music or news station.

If A's fans want equal time on 95.7, they need to have equal attendance and put up equal TV ratings. Hey, I get sick of hearing 24/7 Warriors talk, but I understand why they do it. And there's only 2 options for you as A's fans: 1. bombard the station with calls about the A's throughout the day and force them to talk Athletics or 2. stop listening to 95.7 and start trying out some podcasts. Or better yet, start your own A's podcast.

The standup people, the different camera angles, much better visual presentation of the News...a long awaited change, a change for the better!! These station sell the News, whole people sell it better. The women who stand out and are daring, the players on the "Extra Special" team sell it the best!!

Shit for brains...the DMV. People waiting 8 hours to get a new "modified" license. Your drivers license has a number on it, if the last number is a "even" one (2-4-6-8-0) you come in on Monday, Wednesday or Friday for your new license. If your last number is an "odd" one (1-3-5-7-9) you come to the DMV on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday. My last number is a 5.

    1. The system should have been implemented years ago, especially at DMV offices which are always busy. It was used during the oil embargo in 1973, gas was hard to find, many stations were closed. The stations which were open looked like the DMV of today, long lines. People beating each other up, people cutting in line, windows being smashed, cars ramming each other. The DMV started the odd even system...the last number on your license plate determined what day you could buy gas, it worked, gas was easier and less dangerous to buy, long lines greatly reduced.

Our lives are stressful enough, we don't need any more from the DMV. Make it happen!!

    2. Not as great as you think, and anyone with some knowledge of math would recognize why. If you take half the population and restrict them to half the available days, and the other half to the other available days, you end up approximately back where you were. You might smooth out the day-to-day backlogs a little bit, but it will still average out to approximately where it is now until the backlog gets worked down. The *right* ways to fix the problem caused by this new class of driver's license are (a) more DMV open hours, (b) more open days, (c) more staff, (d) special pop-up offices to service this specific demand. Or you the citizen can avoid the need for this special license altogether by applying for a passport card from the US State Department (they're valid for ID at any US airport).

When Ray Fosse is in both, he lights up the atmosphere and is a good compliment for Ken. Over at the Giants, I have learned to like their laid-back announcers more, because they don't talk as much, and I can actually hear more of the crowds and feel like I am in a ballpark.

And as to Frank and Julie working Sundays, I have a feeling ratings indicate there are more viewers Sunday-Thursday as opposed to Friday/Saturday. Don't be surprised if KTVU picks up a 5pm weekend broadcast.... Also, they need to stop it with all their live shots using those damn cellular backpacks. I was watching the noon news today and watched Tom Vacar interview someone about the fire live with terrible audio and fuzzy bad signal video. I guess being in the Bay Area theses stations need to embrace this not so new technology, but in So-Cal almost every live shot is done with the traditional microwave live truck signal.
