415 Media Exclu: Radnich 'Retirement' from KRON was not a Retirement; Station Wanted Raddy To 'Become More Involved'; Take Part on Weekend Sports Show; Radnich Balked; The Inside Story

PRIOR TO HIS ANNOUNCEMENT in June that he was retiring, Gary Radnich had a series of meetings with KRON management: their message to him was clear: they wanted Radnich to become more involved at the station and even take part in its Sunday Night Sports show.

In fact, 415 Media has learned through a source close to the station, KRON was adamant that Radnich should be on the weekend nights and not "just show up during the week" and do his sportscasts and leave.

Radnich was furious and balked. Negotiations then took place where Raddy could do the Sunday night show only but even that was not on the longtime sports anchor's radar. At that point, both parties decided to part ways. Not an outright leaving but something like a retirement even though Radnich was not really retiring and even though KRON has become an albatross, they still were paying him {Radnich} decent money (roughly $200G) to anchor 5 shows a night.

No more.

Radnich agreed at KRON's decision to part ways after 33 years and go that road even if truly speaking, there was no "retirement." Quite simply stated, KRON wanted more activity from its star sports figure and Radnich wasn't interested. Besides his TV duties, he does a weekday morning show on KNBR from 10-1 PM and has a wife (second) and three kids (and one other older daughter and two sons from his first marriage)

Call it a mutual parting of the way because that's exactly what took place; everyone at KRON knows; so too Radnich. And now you do too.

  1. No wonder he's been talking so much lately about how important family is at this point in his life. Hopefully he's well set up financially. How long can he last on the radio?

    1. Radio is a cush job. Many many many people will miss Gary doing the sports on KRON. Many would argue he's 1 of the 3 or so reasons to even tune in to KRON. The 10 or so people complaining about him on here are the same 10 or so people that complain here regularly.

  2. Good riddance. His game has gone down hill faster than Lindsay Vonn on one leg on packed powder. Lazy. Lazy. Lazy.

    1. A better joke would have been Linday Vonn on Tiger's Wood. Did you miss the leaked photos? She loved his putter.

  3. Going out while they still want more of you. That's the sign of a great talent.

  4. Gary is over the hill and Larry is irritating with his constant interruptions. Don't listen any more. No wonder their ratings are tanking.

    1. Exactly. Larry's interminable interruptions are so frustrating. I've closed my life to that show because of it.

    2. Tanking? False. Look at you with your fake news about the #1 show.

  8. It’s wierd to me that management would think that having more of Radnich on the air would help the station. When I see him, I turn the channel. I’m surprised they think he has much of a following. If he did, you’d see another station trying to hire him. His departure allows KRON to make a clean start.

  9. Gary is just as bad on the radio as he is on tv. This move should have been made years ago ...

  10. Oh, he still has a radio show?

  11. Speaking of KRON, the more Pam Moore dyes her hair lighter the OLDER she looks. She's clearly trying to pass for 20 years younger than she is. She should stop trying to look like Maureen Kelly.

  12. The truth is, Gary Radnich was forced out.
KRON simply made conditions for continued employment so restrictive that they forced Radnich's hand.

  13. not only does larry kruger talk over and interrupt people all the time, he never says anything very intresting, he is dull and boring like "raddy"

  14. Gary has been lazy and giving somewhere between 1 and 0 shits for years. As far as I know he showed up about 15 minutes before the show started and was heading for his Bentley the second it was over and let his producers do all the work. And hey, now KRON has another 200K in the budget for hooker boots and Forever 21 outfits for Darya! Enjoy riding out however long they'll keep paying you to talk about sports you don't care about anymore on the radio, Gary!
