  1. Any sightings of Patrick Connor ? Has he rebounded ?

    1. Haven't heard a peep; I do know he deleted almost all his social media accounts which might explain why he's been on the down low. I don't think he's gone forever but he may a job in the next few years just not in the Bay Area.

    2. I looked a few weeks ago. His social media hasn't been deleted in awhile. And hes also on some show on Power 85 with Dallas Braden still. His whole situation reeked of when Krueger was fired over his comment because Alou wasn't sleeping at the time and heard it. He'll be back.

  2. Rich,

Any thoughts on the work of PIX's Devin Fehely?

    1. He's an adequate reporter with a hard name to spell. That's about it. I haven't seen anything special.

    2. When I saw Devin interview Dominic Caserta last week over the whole sex scandal thing I wondered if Devin should have mentioned that they both went to Bellarmine at the same time. I was there with both.

  3. Who is the best looking woman in local news and why is that woman Heather Holmes?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, we have different opinions on that as I assume you're going on strictly physical attributes; there's a lot of "best-looking" women in local news, I'll have to decide later on that one I can't make such an important choice just now.

    2. Thank you for that, Heather. We know how KTVU likes to promote its anchors.

    3. Peggy Bunker used to be the most attractive and sexy female anchor. But unfortunately she is gone. The sexy Asians are at here though!

  4. What’s up with Veronica De La Cruz’ recent absence from KPIX?

    1. Kev, I haven't heard anything other than I do know VDLC has had a variety of personal problems affect her since coming here. Most have been resolved, some have not. She may be simply taking some time off. I don't know for sure but I'll check around.

      Delete
    2. Kevin and Rich,

VDLC is quite communicative on her social media. She will often reveal (at least in part) the reasons for her absences, as she has in regard to this current absence.

  5. What is 95.7 The Game's obsession with Chris Townsend? How has he survived every PD while talented hosts like Guy Haberman, Mark Kriedler, & Zakariah get forced off?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Townsend has a Bay Area connection and does an adequate job as a pre game/post game guy who is willing to work a job many people, because of family situations, won't do. The money isn't that great and it takes quite a commitment to perform such a task. The other talent you mentioned are people I stopped listening to because they generally weren't worth the time or they bored me. I guess I wasn't the only one.

      Delete
    2. zakariah was god awful, he was uninformed, constantly got names, dates and facts wrong, seemed more interested in music then sports and then his grating annoying voice to top it of, and remember this guy won a "contest" to become a radio "talent"

  6. Is the Game beating up KNBR in any time slots? Or is the signal too weak to make a difference?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In some time slots, 10-3 for one, yes, The Game is beating KNBR's alternative significantly...overall, yes, its signal is weak enough that many people in some parts of the Bay Area can't listen to it because the signal is bad. It's been like that from Day One.

    2. Gary and Larry have the highest rated sports talk show in the Bay Area.

  7. Rich: Have you had a chance to watch KRON's New Sports Reporter Kim Smith. Not only is Kim a Beautiful 'Sistah' she knows her sports well along with being very smooth & polished on air-definitely check her out. Also whatever happened to Henry Wofford? From Dec 2017 until early Feb 2018 I saw Henry discussing both local NFL football teams & the NFL Playoffs with J.R. Stone on KRON's Sunday Night Sports Talk Live. Since then I have not seen Henry on KRON at all. Did KRON just hire him on a temporary basis? What is Henry doing now? Always enjoyed Henry Wofford when he was a regular anchor/reporter on CSN Bay Area Sports from 2010 until he was Mysteriously let go in early 2017. Keep up the great work Rich! Cary SF

    Replies
    1. Your second question first: I believe Henry left KRON after he and another were involved in an on-air sketch which went too far involving a celebrity minority in which Henry participated --haven't seen Kim Smith yet but based on your review, Cary, I will try to watch her this weekend.

    2. I believe Henry Wofford got hired by a Sacramento station.

  8. How is the ABC7 morning mess doing in the ratings? How can they justify paying all those people when none of them other than Nicco work past 9AM?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, they ARE working so they do have to PAY them...they're not getting paid a fortune but someone has to do it; like everyone else, though, viewership is declining across the board and especially in the morning. I don't watch a lot of local TV News in the morning --and KGO I have stopped completely --I don't want to torture myself.

  9. How many days off do these TV news anchors get? Some of them seem to be off a week a month. Reading a teleprompter can't be that taxing.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you build up enough seniority you do get a lot of paid vacation days; it's called benefits --anchors of TV News operations have such benefits too; I can't fault them for that but yes, I agree with you, some do take what seems like an eternity, off.

    2. At least they are not "On Assignment"

  10. Rich: With KFOG completely non-existent after Rosalie airs her final Acoustic broadcasts Sunday, besides your beloved jazz stations and KCBS, are there any other radio stations that actually have a pulse in your view? I would understand if you say No, even with the sports teams airing their games on their respective stations. I have no budget for satellite radio, but thankfully I have my own music collection to stay far away from endless Hairpiece news.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Your feelings are right on; I can't remember the time when Bay Area radio was this stagnant, this awful. Even KCBS has dipped because of questionable management; KNBR is simply terrible and only gets by b/c of its sports affiliates. There's KCSM and that's about it.

  11. I was a network news producer for many years and each of the last four or five of those years I had 13 weeks of vacation. After a while, they stop adding cash to your paycheck and instead compensate you with time off. I took it all. It was a part of my income and just as I wouldn't leave dollars on the table, neither would I leave time.

  12. Any updates on Mike Schuman's replacement on KGO7? Would like to have Rick Quan take the weekend sports desk. He's a veteran in Bay Area sports, solid, and gets the job done. Hopefully he has good relations with the Warriors since Schu apparently did not have even before JacketGate!! Chris

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree with you about Rick Quan, he'd be a terrific choice; that being said, I don't think KGO is putting any priority into this position because it's a weekend gig and there's adequate fill-in for now...probably Bach's to lose but I think she's too vanilla. It's wide open but I'm sure we'll have a decision by the end of the month.

  13. Is CSN Bay Area just letting the contracts of all their "Talent" expire and let them go? Lots of departures but few new hires in the last 2 yrs.

    1. NBC Sports Bay Area has a corporate owner with deep pockets (Comcast) but has lost considerable amounts of money with their cable TV entity; the Bay Area is no different, hence you have mediocrity and cutbacks galore, the latest, Fallon Smith and Mindi Bach.

  14. If you could build your ideal newscast dream team per viewing timeslot (morning, evening, late night) what would it look like?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Morning: Carolyn Tyler, Lisa Argen and Rick Quan.
Evening: Dan Ashley, Kristen Sze, Paul Deannu, and Mark Ibanez
Late Night: Raj Mathai, Jessica Aguirre, Sandhya Patel and Joe Fonzi.

    2. Morning Dream Team -- Folsom, Aqui, Iranapor and Inouye. You'd turn off your TV and go to work.

    3. Not if Neda were on it, I wouldn't.

    4. I would like to see Lisa Argen working weekdays. Kristin Sze, Rick Quan and bring back Eric Thomas.

  15. How has "ME TOO" affected the local stations? It seems unlikely that only so few have been touched in the local media.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Probably the same as other companies; not necessarily a big deal but not a small deal either; I've heard of a few issues but nothing out of the ordinary and none involving high-profile anchors/reporters...yet.

  16. Media Criticism...Enjoy this Great Game...

  17. I am not a member of the media or the industry but I really enjoy reading your blog. It is insightful, interesting information that I would never be privy to, so thanks for doing this.
That said, I personally find Gary Radnich to be funny, with a different approach to sports than the standard X's and O's people and Darya Folsom to be pretty good looking with lots of enthusiasm for her work; at least she isn't boring. The extent of your vitriol towards them seems a little misplaced at times.
    Why am I wrong?

  18. Why is Copie the unfunny "hey! i'm not a real black guy!" still listed on KGO website? Is that just for show? He is gone right?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. God, lets hope so. I just turned on KNBR to listen to Marty Lurie and I have to listen to Copie's son Adam. I just don't understand why he's there.

      Delete
    2. Adam is on KNBR because he's good and has paid his dues as a KNBR, underpaid producer for more than 5 years. I've worked with him, he's good and just because there is this obsession with Brian, shouldn't have any impact on his kid's careers.

  19. Not trying to gang up on Ethan Bearman, but his "show" seems to be hapless meandering. Why not just start a topic and take calls to discuss it?? Just listen to old broadcats of Gene Burns etc. Why is this such a challenge for Bearman?

  20. Has anyone else heard Papa wants out of his Raiders contract so he can work for the Niners?

    ReplyDelete

    1. That would be great as I don't ever want to hear (TOUCHDOWN RAIDERS)

  21. Mentioning Gene Burns and that nimrod Bearman in the same sentence is blasphemy, it's a real bad place to go..... speaking of going when will the Chipster be gone ??

  22. Not sure if Damon Bruce already addressed this but, why was he taken off Warriors pregame on 95.7? I think Townsend, Guru, and Steinmetz are doing a good job, but Damon and former Santa Clara University basketball coach Kerry Keating, did a good job with the Warriors pregame show.

I know Kerry Keating does some work on ABC-7's After The Game postgame show after their Saturday night national broadcasts, and Damon already has his afternoon show and probably stuff he does with his wife I'm sure, but I was wondering why Damon and Kerry Keating haven't done Warriors pregame on 95.7 during the playoffs.
