Friday Word on Street: KPIX Morning Show Might Be Tweaked; Makeover Rumors Too as May Sweeps Unkind News To 855 Battery Players

Image result for KPIX 5 Morning Show MAY SWEEPS just concluded and KPIX' dreadful Morning Show was dead last in Bay Area TV Ratings breakdowns.

Which might explain the word on the Battery Media gulch of yet another tinkering of the show or an outright makeover.

Michelle Griego, who anchors alongside Kenny Choi (pictured) is supposedly a pain in the tuchas to work with...and Choi, who was brought to the desk almost three years ago has not caught on with Bay Area viewers.

Choi has virtually no chemistry with Griego and Griego has virtually no chemistry with Kenny and the rest of the crew. That usually means disaster.

I don't have it in for PIX but it would be nice if they had someone bright and astute to at least marginally challenge KTVU's still-dominant but wooden "Mornings on Two."

Uh, nope, not at this time.

  2. When you say an anchor pairing lacks "chemistry", do you mean that the viewers can't imagine them engaging in sexual congress? Decades ago, the male anchor had to be avuncular and the female had to be very young with huge eyes looking up adoringly at the male anchor as if his words were golden.

  3. Both anchors should be let go and rehire or put new staffs to brighten up the day. Wonder what is the ranking for KRON, KGO and KNTV? My picks, KGO (2nd), NBC 11 (3rd) and KRON (4th).

  4. Mornings need Anne Makovec...THE best morning/midday anchor in the Bay Area...and Brian Hackney.

    1. No, We finally got rid of another loud mouth in Roberta, Ann's in the same league.

    2. You've got to be kidding me! Anne Makovec is a total zero. She was at the desk when the shooting occurred
at UPS. Like all other stations, KPIX had some people
on the scene, however, Anne said, "CNN is reporting....." Really, Anne? At that time of day,
KPIX is a 15 minute drive from UPS and you're relying
      on CNN for updates??

    3. If you actually worked in the business you'd know it isn't Anne's job or ability to decide when to send a news crew to a shooting.

    4. 8:34 expects Anne to get in her car and drive down there herself...all the while still staying on the air to anchor.

  5. They did move the Sunday morning news which features Phil Matier interviews from 7:30am to 6am. Who is going to watch at 6am on a Sunday? Even my rooster doesn't get up that early on a Sunday.
I understand the reasoning, moving the CBS Sunday Morning with Jane Pauley for better ratings, but I'm not a happy camper. Luckily the Phil Matier interview segments are available on the CBS San Francisco website.

  6. Michelle has been around for a while now, and if the ratings aren't improving, how far do you have to look? Hiring Kenny was a bad hire to say the least. Zero personality for starters and he and Michelle just don't match up well. Time to clean house...cut both of them loose and bring in Madina and give me some time to come up with a suitable replacement for Kenny.

  7. I usually switch between channels 4, 5 & 7 in the morning. I don't care for the "wooden" delivery of Dave Clark on 2. Has anyone ever seen him interact with his co-anchor? Has anyone ever seen him ask questions to a field reporter? Didn't think so.

  8. Tweaking - To the rest of the world a change of format, maybe some personal changes.

To Michelle -- 3 Co-anchor floating in the Bay and some new monochromatic tops.

  11. Choi never caught on with me, that's for sure. IMO he has the face and delivery for radio news.

    1. Kenny is what he is. when he was hired Michelle was never going to let anyone with an ounce of talent on that set. She is the star and queen. No one can be allowed to eclipse that.

  12. the Covay way; ''get a job ,it's your fault if youre not successful ''.? no, I don't want to work-it doesent pay enough and am an artistic person, we design the pyramids but the non artistic types are the builders-the lazy bum artist designed the Giza Pyramid. the artist designs the pyramid and the Covay's and Radnich ''get a job bum!'' types are not knowing that lazy artist bums are necessary. just an excuse not to ''get a job''? of course it's an excuse. gotta design another Giza in my lazy time. free money for artistic types. half the population? are 50 % of humans ''work a day hunter types'' and other half ''artistic types'' like ''male female '' ?

  13. As long as DR is still running PIX's news, it is unlikely there will be a "KPIX This Morning" level change, let alone a tweak in the Morning News program. RL's disgust with DR is obvious, and unfortunately, the evidence continues to be mountainous. Very disappointed that CBS HQ won't remove DR, so that Choi & Griego can be removed.

    1. Sounds like Rosenheim has no power anymore. Isn't he the one who's supposed to be supervising Griego? smh.

  14. Read it again, 10:56. The KPIX field reporter was already on
the scene, yet Anne was relying on CNN for her info.
    Embarassing.

    1. 6:34AM--someone who has never been involved in a breaking news situation, let alone this one. Just because a reporter is "on the scene" doesn't mean he or she has had time to digest all that's going on. Maybe they just got there. YOU HAVE NO IDEA OF THE SITUATION.
And the anchor is trying to fill time and get info from wherever they can to inform the viewer. Just like stations and networks have always said "UPI or AP is reporting..." even though they have their own crews on the scene. (See Walter Cronkite during JFK assassination.)
So, 6:34AM, you have no idea what you're talking about. In this situation or in general. I hope this little primer helped so when you're drinking Mountain Dew in your Barcalounger and watching TV, you have a little more insight. Idiot.

  15. I agree replacing Griego with either Anne Macovec or Maria Medina would be a nice start and yes replace Choi with Joe Vasquez?

  16. Don't think that's the point that 8:34 is making. Just asking
Ann to do her job and report on an incident happening LIVE in her own city. Why get CNN involved when her own people are on the scene?

  17. You have no idea what you're talking about, 10:09. The UPS shooting happened at 8:55am. Makovec made her CNN comment on
    the Noon news. IDIOT!!!

    1. Oh boy you're clueless as to how news (and life) works. New info comes in for some time after the initial event. Yes, even at noon! PIX, like other stations, has 1 maybe 2 reporters running around doing live shots at the scene. When you're on live, you can't gather news. CNN, of which KPIX is an affiliate, also has folks digging up info. There's a lot of news to be gathered and 1 station can't get it all. So why not use info from the network (CNN) that you're paying for? CNN also reports info THEY get from local stations. Sorry you don't understand how stuff works.

    2. I know how stuff works. This is either Ann or one of her relatives chiming in.
