Rothmann's Presidents Day Appearance on KGO Would Have Been Nice But...; 'So..." Reaching Epidemic Proportions; Holiday Quickie; 415 Media Monday

Image result for presidents dayIT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TODAY (PRESIDENTS DAY) had Presidential historian and Political guru, John Rothmann, been on local radio to talk about US presidents. He wasn't of course, sadly.

One of the cool things Rothmann was always good for; an appearance on Ronn Owens KGO show on this day to analyze each president and his significance --good and bad.

Of course, Owens show was canned by KGO so Rothmann didn't do the show but I guess a guest host from 10-Noon was impossible; after all, Cumulus and Mike Anthony in particular don't get the art of booking actual decent guests and abhor relevant, interesting topics on an important day like this day. Bad habits are difficult to lose. I know, I'm a broken record here.

*I though the holiday season was the most popular time for talent to take a day off; from watching and listening today, seems like Presidents Day is the clubhouse leader. I had no idea that the TV/radio folks had such respect for Abe and George and Mr. Polk and the boys. I'm sure Presidents Day being on a Monday was just a coincidence.

*The relentless onslaught of people being interviewed on radio beginning to answer questions with..."so..." has now reached crisis level. It's like, so, fake, so lazy, so pedestrian, so millennial, so...well, you get the point. So there.

*Funny that we haven't had any real weather for almost three weeks therefore the weather reports have become so silly in repetitious BS: "Well, it's another day without rain and so far models say there's no rain in sight." Every ten minutes. Wouldn't it be nice to just 86 weather for a night, day or so and have the anchor (on TV or radio) just say it's the same deal? But I guess that would be committing broadcast treason.

*By the way, yeah, I heard, 448,000 times its gonna be real chilly tonight --OK, been there/done that.

*When it's big news that the All_Sports FM radio (95.7 'The Game') station moved its studios and offices to the KPIX building this weekend you know the state of radio in the Bay Area is in sad shape.

  1. KCBS is addicted to traffic and weather "on the 8's". Traffic, sure, but why weather??? May be as bad as sports at 15 and 45 when a sporting event MUST be replayed!

    1. yes like for knbr/kgo they use the same person, heather the penguin for the traffic, too cheap to use another live person

  2. I can sum it up for you. Trump bad, Obama good. Republican bad. Democrat good. How did I do? Do I deserve a guest host slot?

    1. Or Trump an azz wipe and Obama ineffective. Romney win in 2012 and we wouldn't have this clown Russian apologist. The perfect storm.

  3. If the local weather people had jobs in media outlets in the midwest and east, they would definitely not be reciting the same thing every day.

The weather casters here all do a good job at telling us the obvious. Seems like a relatively easy area in which to do their job.

  4. Hey Rich,

Bundle up, I heard it's going to be chilly tonight. Holy F$%# these news stations have lost it. It's only the weather and we get what we get, we don't have control over a little cold weather.

  5. Rich , I don't know if you own property or rent, but sub freezing weather causes pipes to burst, lots of damage, inconvenience and expense. This is one of those times where weather information actually matters. Additionally, homeless people and animals left outside also suffer horribly. It's not just about the inconvenience of wearing a coat. Are your pipes wrapped? It's a little late now.

Weathercasters fill time. They're getting paid the same anyway so you might as well fill up the rundown with them as much as possible. If they 86ed them they'd have to get more writers, producers and editors--you know, real news people.

  8. Wasn't 95.7 at 855 Battery when it was the short lived KPIX-FM news station?

  9. Rothman sounds good, sounds smart....good voice for radio. But based on what he actually says and how he responds to callers (including me), I think his intellect is average at best, and his left-leaning ideology comes blaring through. He seems to really like the sound of his voice but doesn't really think about what he says so much.

    1. Agreed with his caller response. He's not much of an idea guy. What he is good at is history, that's about it.

    2. John has a good voice..You are wrong in suggesting that he "doesn't really think about what he says so much". If he has any fault, it's that he thinks too much about what he says.

  12. Rich and 4:15: It's not designed for lengthy listening. Most people spend 15-20 minutes, tops, listening to KCBS. They hear it once, maybe twice. And by the next day, after work, home, etc., they need to hear it again.

    1. Rich won't be happy until the KCBS formula that has worked for 30+ years is the same as the old KGO of which he pines.

    2. I pine for the old KGO of ten years ago but that business model is no longer viable. Whether it's San Francisco or Atlanta or Jackson...doesn't matter. They're all the same.

  13. I hate the prefatory "so" thing also. another one is "listen". But by far the most obnoxious and overused word in current common broadcast parlance is "conversation". Everyone has observed the political pundit class use these oratorical devices again and again in the midst of our national nightmare. They are crutches used in place of substantive and thoughtful words.

  14. And, don't forget the most mispronounced word in the English language---REPEATEDLY. It is not repeatably. Even Lester Holt says repeatably repeatedly..Come on Network people set an example don't be lazy with the language.

  16. And in a similar vein, can everyone STOP using the word "curate?" Geezus. Everyone is specially "curating" something for you. Please stop. Sick of that term being used and misused.

....Oooor maybe the company that owns the radio stations want all of them under one roof? If you use common sense, things aren't so difficult.
