THIS IS HAPPY FEBRUARY around San Jose's NBC Bay Area (KNTV) studios and office. The Salespeople are beaming and enjoying early on a ratings bonanza plus gold and platinum beyond.The champagne toasted is due to a trifecta --KNTV, the O and O of NBC has Sunday's Super Bowl. It will have a primetime post-game newscast and the numbers should be outstanding.
Then there's next week's Winter Olympics and although it takes place in nervous South Korea the ratings will be huge. It is, after all , the Olympics, and Americans love the Olympics, even Winter games in a country that has severe anxiety over its unpredictable fellow Koreans in the North. Yes, the two countries supposedly will unite for the games but there still exists a fear factor. Even that troubling aspect has a ratings component to it in this world today, like it or not.
February is Sweeps month and KNTV figures to make a splash. The double whammy of programming sets up perfectly. Or, as a sales guy told me recently: "We stand to make a lot of coin; everyone in the building has a happy face on."
I'm glad KNTV is doing well. As for the Super Bowl hype on all the other channels KGO, KPIX and KTVU is just insane. They have shown all the commercials already in fact you can go online and watch Sundays commercials along with previous years. Everyone is trying to make a buck...

ReplyDeleteWhat's up with Katie Nielsen on PIX. She tries so hard to look like a blonde bombshell that instead she looks like a *guy* trying to look like a blonde bombshell. The fake hair, the fake arms, the fake legs, the fake eyelashes. She looks like she should be standing on a corner in Vegas.

DeleteKNBR and KRON sports host guy- who picked Brady to win the Super Bowl and that would prove he's better then Joe Montana? Is now not only making excuses for Brady,he's attacking Steph ( plays golf with Obama) Curry.

Sports dude needs to see a therapist as to why he wants people to hate him. He will cross the street in SF to hit a little old lady. "Hate me!".
