MONDAY Dotty ...Dotty...Dotty
*KGO-TV (ABC7) is hearing and reading your blunt criticism of its awful anchor, Dion Lim, yet is still inclined to highlight her on their evening newscasts because they apparently think she has star power. I cannot listen to the woman frankly, the fake voice and looks when she does tosses irritate me. A reader joked that "Lim is Terrilyn Joe Part 2." No actually, that's a disservice to Joe who I actually liked but was major disliked at 900 Front. She had the mouth of a drunken sailor and I'm sure you know about the famous (or infamous) tomatoes and eggs whammy years back...The Michael Wolff Trump book would make for prime red meat fodder at the old KGO --everyone is talking about it, even millennials, who ditched their backpacks and cheap cigarettes to try to buy the book. (Good luck with that) Of course now the "next generation" idiots would much more prefer to ask listeners where they had their first sexual encounter or the history of tofu...The exception, of course, is John Rothmann, the political guru who is too smart for KGO Radio because he has a brain and could have probably written the entire screenplay for "The Post"...again, KGO is too busy selling wacky infomercials and real estate blather. It's a radio carnage...On KCBS, the station that uses Jon Bristow and Megan Goldsby every five minutes (it seems) had morning drive anchor, Susan Leigh Taylor, acting as if she won the lottery with "the RAIN! is here...BUT just wait until later in the afternoon!" Oh my god, rain? Stop the presses. Leigh Taylor drives me nuts lately with her voice too but I'm one cranky bastard lately...Michael Savage had dinner with the President on Christmas Eve at Mar-a-Lago ...Trump to Savage: "I hear you've been hard on me." Savage: "We'll, I dunno, have I ?" That's why, among other reasons I listen to Savage the provocateur because, yes, he has been hard on Trump and is not a right-wing lackey that rubber stamps everything Trump says or does or both....like this schmuck ...and this schmuck too...Many of you despise Savage; I urge you to actually LISTEN to a show (heard on KSFO from Noon-3 PM here and nationally) and hear a magnificent story-teller and downright raconteur. More importantly, Savage is entertaining and unpredictable; a far cry from the usual dreck on current national terrestrial talk radio. Yeah, sorry, I'm a believer...A KTVU phenomenon --revolving anchors all over time slots with no apparent stableness lately. KTVU is still number one in virtually all time slots (except early evenings on occasion) but with significantly less viewers which advertisers know and is scaring the shit out of GM's. It's not only a local issue, it's happening nationally too...Speaking of KTVU, is it just me or do they run a promo every minute? My goodness...Speaking of major irritants: anchors who give the fake look on a serious story. As if they looking and sounding serious gives the story more impact. In fact, they look stupid and phony and trivialize the significance of the story. I don't need a serious look and pause after a murder story. It speaks for itself. Just read the damn story and MOVE ON. What a concept!...Oprah in 2020? A worthy topic on the radio station that used to be legit; instead, they'll be talking about new cheesecake recipes...Seriously, does anyone really care who becomes the new KRON weekend weather maven? I'd rather watch paint dry...I didn't agree a lot with the late Lee Rodgers ...BUT, I listened. Rodgers, in a Savagesque sort of way was just a great broadcaster and interviewer. I tend to agree a lot with Rachel Maddow but I can't watch her anymore. She says the same thing every night and frankly, that bores the hell out of me. I'm in the minority I guess...Hey, did you hear? It's raining. Oh my god, call the authorities!...Yeah, I know, nobody cares about the holiday radio book but if you want proof about how awful KNBR is and only worthy of a Giants' or 'Niners' broadcast, here's proof positive.
Breaking News: It's raining -- We now head out to Walnut Creek for the story...
ReplyDeleteReading about KGO, I sure do miss the OLD KGO.
Life goes on my friend...evolve.
DeleteDion Lim is not the tragedy some people say she is. She's doing fine..holding her own. I think the bay area has gotten so used to bad, I mean real bad, on-air personalities that when someone half way decent comes along we can't and don't recognize it. We automatically think "bad" when we see "new"..all I am saying is give Lim a chance. She's less offensive than most.
ReplyDeleteI wholeheartely agree. Dion is a true professional. Very polished. She was a good choice by KGO TV.
DeleteThese two positive comments sure sound like fake yelp reviews.
DeleteIf I’m not mistaken, the “Terilyn vs Dion” DLC for the “Marvel/Capcom” game was a rousing success!! KI-YA, GODDAMIT!!!
DeleteHow soon we forget: I heard some guy on KNBR telling me what I already know. Then Raddy says its Tim Kawakami. I already forgot what he sounded like. But,yeah,it came back-lol.
ReplyDeleteSavage? Whats a the appeal of a story teller who lies to back up his financial interests? Has he ripped caffeine and corn syrup fueled energy drinks? Of course not.
Rachel...does get lost sometimes. She is asked to kill an hour sometimes with no guests but maybe a few near the last half of the show. That's a mistake.
Joy Reid is a lioness, and why MSNBC keeps her part time is a crime. I mean,Joy means business. 5 stars.
It also bothers me that the ONLY Latino and Asian political news show hosts- are pitted against each other on weekends at MSNBC and CNN.
Of course no problems at FOX,its still all white men and blonde woman. That black guy who spoke up on FOX?..never seen him again..lol.
Joy Reid? As Rich would say "melba toast". Seen the one sided spin before, nothing to get excited about.
Delete"In 2017, a Twitter user uncovered posts written between 2007 and 2009 on Reid's former blog "Reid Report", suggesting Democratic Representative Charlie Crist (who was then the Republican governor of Florida) was a closeted homosexual. Following criticism of the posts as homophobic, Reid apologized, calling the posts "tone deaf." "
DeleteSuch a "lioness". Same as all the rest. When called out on their bullshit, spineless.
Exceptionally good column today.
ReplyDeleteA special occasion, and highlight, for Savage. Nice of Trump to extend the invitation.
ReplyDeleteI think it was Lim who referred to the SAP Center in San Jose as the Sap Center as in, "tree sap."
ReplyDeleteLOFL! I'd hate to hear what kind of sap Lim was thinking of. Doesn't help that Shark Tank is the name of an ABC show, even though the Sharks should receive residuals for that term.
DeleteI thought it was pronounced like tree sap too until someone corrected me.
Delete"Sap Center"...Roqui Theus Syndrome strikes again...
DeleteI guess I'm not as a savvy news watcher but I think Dion is doing very good at her job
ReplyDeleteShe sounds like she's teaching a kindergarten lesson.
DeleteBREAKING NEWS: It's raining here in the South Bay!
ReplyDeleteMore at 4, 4:38, 5, 5:17, 5:30, 6, 6:15, 6:51, and on our sister station at 7.
Tim Kawakami was the guy who would ask the least intelligent questions. He wouldn't listen to questions already answered and ask the same thing. No wonder why he was banned from the Raider facility.
ReplyDeleteAnd, speaking of MSNBC and CNN, for that matter. Why in the world do we have to pay to get them, only to watch an eternity of frikin commercials!! What a joke.
ReplyDeleteEvery station seems to enjoy airing from the Creek.
ReplyDeleteLim's voice actually doesn't bother me. But can't wait for Daetz's maternity leave to wrap up in a week or two.
Savage stopped being entertaining the moment he fell out with Bill Graham. He still supports a supremacist rapist who condemns the Constitution and is more than willing to bankrupt our country or any other country if he chooses. Nothing entertaining about supporting draconian head cases like that. Can't address jobs and immigration if you have no moral compass. Can't be entertaining if one supports immoral folks.
Bay Media gets worse because its superiors thrive on uncertainty, which leaves its personalities anxious. I find myself going On Demand more than ever. Can barely handle a few minutes of local and national news on TV, and I'm done. Radio? Nope, slip in a record every time. Motown Monday, Beatles Wednesday, and any music that's a classic.
Hope I'm not perceived as engaging in heightism, but I didn't realize Weiner(Savage) is so diminutive.Perhaps that explains his bombast and much more.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump's 6'2", and Melania's probably wearing stilettos since that's probably all she has in her closet...having said that Savage is probably 5'8"-ish...not tall but not Danny DeVito either...
Delete> they apparently think she has star power.
ReplyDeleteLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!! These po’ fools need to look up the meaning of “star power.”
what's wrong with talking intelligently on a subject just because you're a ''sports guy''? guess woodson detractors want to be dumbed down-to each his own!
ReplyDeleteWoodson is melba toast. Hollywood royalty preaching about the "common man". I can't roll my eyes fast enough.
DeleteSame folks that long for the old kgo are pleasuring themselves to circa 1980's posters of Loni Anderson and the like. Get the hell over it.
ReplyDeleteWKRP was THE BOMB!!!
DeleteThe odds were already against KNTV when it became the Peacock affiliate and got onto the big-kids' playground in 2002 (a San Jose station serving SF?) But when its first move was to hire Terilyn Joe it might have dug an even deeper hole, one that it is yet to climb out of.
ReplyDeleteAnny Hong gets the weekend gig at KRON??
ReplyDeleteWell she sure beats out Rebecca Strom, who's voice is very similar to Fallon Smith's. Both are virtually unwatchable after 5 seconds!
DeleteDion Lim is not fit for primetime and that too in a large market like SF BA. They could do better with Katie Marzullo or Kristin Sze.
ReplyDeleteDr Michael Savage sounded like a starry-eyed school girl recounting his encounter with cheeto. Does it count that his idol is suffering from dementia? Too bad you will censor this truism. No wonder I withhold $500 in semi-annual donations....glad you survived the flu champ!
ReplyDeleteI like Rachel's politics but can't watch her show. It's frustrating. She always buries the lede story 10 minutes into the show. For example, here's how Rachel would break the sinking of the Titanic, "Well, we have momentous news tonight about a famous ship. You know ships have been going back and forth to Europe from here for decades. First they were powered by sails, then finally steam ships. That's why they're called steam ships now. Well, the British White Star Line built several great steamships recently and one of them is supposedly the fastest of them all but not anymore. Now there are a lot of things that can go wrong with a steamship, engine fires is one of the most common and then there are accidents at sea....."
ReplyDeleteYeah, she does like to start every story with "and on the first day God created the universe" and eventually get to the story in a month or two...and I say this as a fan and a card-carrying LAA...
Delete"Same folks that long for the old kgo are pleasuring themselves to circa 1980's posters of Loni Anderson and the like. Get the hell over it."
ReplyDeleteNot for THIS "old KGO'er."
I utilize Christy Canyon videos, which can easily be found on YouTube.
Think Dion Lim is fantastic. Love her on air presence. New people flub a little and she's entitled to that. We are all not perfect. Think she's fast on her toes with comments. Love her and don't be too fast to criticize.
ReplyDeleteOn September 1, 1983 KQED-TV sent camera crews to KGO-TV, KCBS Radio, the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Mateo Times. Their assignment was to watch the reporters, producers and editors at work on what was expected to be a routine news day just before the Labor Day weekend.

Thanks for sharing that link. What a fascinating document of news rooms, personalities, and the business of gathering and producing news stories during that era.
DeleteIt would be interesting to hear from folks who worked in that time and from people who work now in newsrooms in print, TV, and radio to compare and contrast then and now.
Savage has been hard on Trump, much to my delight, not a Savage fan, but does listen once in awhile, and at times find his shows interesting. Mostly he is hard on Trump on environmental issues, anyway whenever he goes against the Trumpster's his show gets quite entertaining, and he does take call from listeners who disagree with him.
ReplyDeleteJohn Rothmann has filled in quite a bit during the Holidays and as always he is a delight to listen to. He gets many callers that wishes he had his own show, usually he just say, let management know. However, last week, he said we'll see. Anything in the works, do you know anything Rich? Do management at KGO really think Ethan Bearman's show is so good it can be on twice a day? All his diet advice is maddening, it seem to be different every day, who can there be any consistency in that. I could be wrong don't listen much, usually just to his opening, if that. Only like when he has David Lazarus on.
Dion Lim must be the top facial fakeness anchor of all, Natasha Zouves is second with that fake laughs and exaggerating delivery. We should all express our views to Ama, we all missed her, and pray she comes back very soon. Dion is very experience, she makes a good ABC world news special reporter in the East Coast.
ReplyDeleteDion Lim is so bad. I'm sure she is nice and trying hard. I'm also pretty sure all her positive comments come from people who know her. That's ok. BUT she has the most fake voice ever, is robotically over the top and has no place in this market
ReplyDeleteWhere is that photo of 45*,wife and Savage taken? I thought all of Saddam's castles had been dismantled.
ReplyDeleteDion Lim is okay, but Katie Marzullo is better as a prime time back-up for Ama Daetz.
