Cranky, Tired, Me; KCBS; KPIX; Is There Holiday Spirit?

Sorry for the late posting (I know, you couldn't wait and considered self-torture) but I'm both physically and mentally exhausted. It is Christmas time and even though I'm not Christian the ads on TV and radio are endless. Everything holly-jolly, this and that, but we've been here before and all of 'yous are shopping up a storm and the economy is booming, so, ho, ho, ho.

Further cranky I've been invited to exactly one holiday party and skipped it because I'm not in the mood. Everything pretty much sucks right now and barely surviving on this endeavor just to survive but you've heard that tune before; more and more and more readers -- less, less, and less revenue but that's life in the slow lane. Sooner or later, fate will interject and decide yay or nay, so there. It's a Holly-jolly Christmas.

Further crankiness presides because KCBS is slowing altering its old-KCBS style; dammit. More and more talk between anchors, most of it rather needless. I guess they figure new ownership has to tinker solely for the sake of tinkering and not leave well enough alone. You want to change KCBS for the good, suits? Get rid of the 10-15 REPEAT stories played over and over and over and over on the weekend and slightly less during the weekday. I know about TSL and people turning the radio on and off but this policy is putrid and sounds ridiculous. Run Dave Ross four more times; add a few more "Re-Winds"; play the "Star Date" minute. Just quit the endless story re-run guys, it's BORING and it sounds repetitious (duh!)

Oh yeah, I'm cranky.Image result for cranky male

A few tips: Yo, Natasha, get a grip and set up a coffee date with Kristen Sze. Be a pragmatist. Sze isn't going anywhere and she's got tons of more seniority than you do. You don't have to be shy about a quick coffee; if you still feel abused then offer lunch at Original Joe's and I'm sure she'll be impressed and you'll be a new career diplomat. Not to mention, job security although those 4-hour days are beginning to piss off management.

There's at least two El-Lay anchor women not named Carolyn Johnson that would love to come back to the Bay Area. Accent on "come back."

Steve Aveson over at cranky KRON isn't exactly loved by some of the staff; apparently, Aveson has no sense of humor and insists on being Steve Aveson; love 40, KRON, still up to its ass with universal derision over the attention whore in the morning who lives with the News Director and had the temerity to offer a "chutzpah" "apology" the other morn. Time is running out, Countess D.

Cranky KPIX: keep hiring more bland female reporters who just got off work from Ross.

PIX could make one bold move but they're too stupid and have all the creative talent of a mattress store: HIRE back Tom Sinkovitz to do the 5 PM Newcast and have INSTANT buzz and lots of PUB. But not a chance with doofus Dan Rosenheim more worried about beers with O'Donnell than, god forbid, giving PIX life support, or did you read those Sweeps breakdown, Dano?

You hit the nail on the head with this Rich. There are so many things they could do to break up each hour. Even when they are interviewing someone let them talk a little longer instead of sorry we're out of time. Also if they are going to do the same story over and over have make a couple different report recordings on the same story so at least it sounds different.

    1. All these things take manpower. Newsrooms are so thread-bare today that repeating what they just did is all they have the power to do. I know reporters who've told me they have enterprising stories they did months ago that are sitting in limbo, important stories no one else is doing, simply because there aren't the editors to cut the material. This stuff will likely never make air.

  2. Rich, unlax. Do as I did (and I'm a sometimes-Muslim). Give everyone on your list a Chia Pet.

  3. Rich, don't be cranky. Cheer up. Consider following the radio that more and more of your readers are listening to these days-SiriusXM. Get a subscription. I love your column but I listen to all the sports and political shows on Sirius more and more. There are so many stations on Sirius for you to review and offer your great experience and insights. Merry Christmas Rich.

    1. Sirius costs money and is elitist. Most people listen to free radio and it should deliver.

  4. Still can't believe Rosenheim is getting away with his ineptitude at PIX after Cohen retired and CBS HQ visited to scold the station. Smh.

  5. 2 LA anchor women who would like to come back? Wonder if Marvelous Marla Tellez is one of them.

    1. Hmmm... Fox11 is currently messed up...with all kinds of changes in the female on air staff as well as firing Steve Edwards for sexual harassment [??]. Mysterious changes. Marla has definitely evolved as a very credible anchor person (especially in LA).

  6. There is zip warmth from Pamela Moore to Aveson. Never heard her once ask even a simple formality on air of him, like how was his day?...nada.
Radnich and crew dumped from the New Years day sat KRON. It got embarrassing to watch him host with Cathy Heenan while the "Stay in your lane" vid is shown world wide for 3 years now.

    1. I should add that Pamela is quite loquacious with Raddy and Ship and even Lodes. So,it IS personal.

    2. It may be of interest to people in the industry, and I don't want to burst your bubble, Stan, but the majority of humanity really don't care a twit about it.

  7. CBS has set a standard in SF being Rosenheim. That's the level they chose to be at. It may tell you something about the caliber of people CBS feels are available to replace him.
They may consider Rosenhiem a "7"...
But it may be that there are only "3's" and "4's" available and willing to do that job for the money is has agreed to.

In other words CBS knows his replacement would suck even more.

    Checkmate...ho, ho,ho!

  8. Rich -

You shall bow to the Countess D when referring to her. The ND demands it!

    Signed,
    Gary

  10. I agree with Rich - the endless, constant commercialization of Christmas is disgusting - I'm always happy when Christmas day is finally here because it means the non-stop promotion is over.
