KGO Radio Naked on Weekend When a Big News Story Like Charlottesville Takes Place; Luckily, Thurston and Rothmann To The Rescue (Again)

Image result for charlottesville The old KGO Radio was a go-to radio station when there was breaking news; no matter the day, the time, weekday or weekend, KGO was a destination and its "news-talk" brand was the envy of the industry ...not any more.

I've often told a radio guy here that KGO would be naked --embarrassing too, if major news broke on a weekend ...why? Because there's literally no one in the newsroom.

Today, all hell broke loose in Charlottesville --mayhem all round and it's on all the cable channels this Saturday night. Yes, even on a traditional slow news day major news broke. Where's KGO? Well, if you like taped financial shows and energy programs you're a winner. Cooking shows too.

Luckily at 7 PM, Pat Thurston will be live with three hours of news -talk, I assume, but KGO has a stupid-people handbook that the talk-show hosts are supposed to follow. Like robots.

Not this evening--oh, John Rothmann will guest with Pat at 7.

  1. Oh yay! Pat Thurston is here to save the day and educate us all about the South! She's an expert you know (coming from Hayward and whatever rich white enclave she resides in now).

    KGO, 1 Sided talk AMMMMM

  2. Stupid-people handbook lol. It makes sense tho what with all the left leaning liberal nutjobs in the Bay Area that have made this a 1 party rule. You're going to have to dumb it down to their level, ya know?

    1. @534...i don't think Rich appreciates right wing trolls...go to Breitbart where you'll be more at home with the alt-right loons.

    2. At least Rich for the most part lets both sides voice their opinions. Case in point, he has a few left wing trolls that "observe" and comment pretty much daily.

Are you saying you would rather have this be a censored left wing utopia with only views that are in agreement with your own? I'm sure you can find that at Huffpo or KQED.

    3. @1233...Huffpost and KQED doesn't even compare to the radical hatefest at Breitbart and Infowars. Go to each site and check out the headlines and comments. Breitbart has some frightening, crazy shit.

    4. Love the 7:56 & 4:16 responses, especially after the evil shown in Charlottesville VA Saturday. This evil is very much present within Breitfart, the Fatmouth in Florida, the Mannity in DC, the Bombastic Borises at Sinclair Broadcasting, as well as way too many similar groups all over the internet, and especially the Elephant Man's little brother known as the Hairpiece-In-Chief's "Chief Strategist" (who is even trying to infiltrate the Vatican, according to some of the Pope's closest confidants).

    5. Hey look @10:13, a man who wasted years of his life watching The Daily Show and Colbert report thinking he was cool and edgy. The ignorance shows.

  3. The Dynamic Duo. You'd think KGO would get a clue.

  4. At Berkeley the right preached at the left wearing black and wearing scarfs. In Virginia, they came with shields, helmets, and carried guns openly.
The police in Virginia did almost nothing for over a day.
The kicker is Trump offered condolences..and called out nobody. Not white nationalists,Nazi's,Or the alt. right. No. He did what he did in the O Reilly interview about Russian killers, with a "Everybody does it".
    Trump has to be removed.

    1. Yawn. You're more of a broken record than the broken record other posters were claiming Rich was yesterday.

    3. Except he's right.

This president is a joke and has made racism acceptable/mainstream.

      Get a clue.

  5. KGO has not had a news department for a long time now. Is it really fair to expect them to offer news coverage anymore?

    1. Especially in the age of social media and faster transfer of information on the internet. Is a news department even a worthwhile investment for a second tier big market radio station anymore?

    2. Not sure that Rich's post is on the lack of a news department. It's more about the lack of an opportunity to talk about what's going on...which has been a problem at KGO since December 2011!

  6. "Protesters" in the Bay Area. Or in other words, look at me, put me on camera!

It's real easy to be a "protester" in an area where you have no opposition. These snowflakes wouldn't last 10 minutes in any place other than the liberal Bay Area.

    1. 10:28...let's see if that's true. MAGA supremacists plans on coming to SF on 8.26 and Berkeley on 8.27. God help us all.

    2. What? 5 will show up? It won't be anything of any significance. Just a chance for the counter-"protesters" to get themselves on camera lighting fires or throwing garbage cans. All the while covering the lower halves of their faces with bandanas.

Here's hoping the gathering is nowhere near a Foot Locker.

  7. KGO used to have a news department -- a really good one and one that people would turn to during breaking news. But alas, under Cumulus there's no longer an reason to listen to KGO during protests, earthquakes, plane crashes, storms or really any time at all. Cumulus has destroyed the station.

  8. No one on radio is as knowledgeable as John Rothmann who treats even trump supporters with reason and respect. We are robbed when news breaks and John isn't on.
