Fox Would Love KTVU Vet Reporter Tom Vacar to Take a Hike But That Ain't Happening Anytime Soon

Image result for sal castaneda KTVU --would love very much for veteran Consumer Reporter, Tom Vacar to retire and enjoy life away from Channel 2. I've told you as much here.

See, even though Vacar is very much on his game and adds much needed local appeal and moxie to KTVU's brand, he's very highly paid (about $300K a year) and considered way too old by Fox standards. Fox would and could very easily pull the plug on Vacar only they fear the wrath of T.V.

Vacar is a LOYAH; a well-connected one at that and Fox suits fear a massive wrongful termination suit would likely soon develop if Vacar was given the heav-ho.

No can do.

So, for those of you Tom Vacar fans who enjoy watching the tenured, if a bit crusty, Tomster, be happy you read this here at 415 Media.

  1. Glad to read this report. He is a solid reporter. Maybe age discrimination threats can be a positive thing in the corporate jungle.

    1. It's not age discrimination unless you are between 40-70..see statute.

We need the scholarly opinion from the fabled workmen's comp lawyer out of Sacramento on this.

    3. There is no such thing as "workmen's comp".Worker's comp is administered by the state. Federal age discrimination laws protect you from being fired based on your age, if you are between the ages of 40-70. Tom Vacar is very good as his job, but it won't matter.

  2. Really like him a lot. One of the very few pros over there.

  3. Really???
So FOX is so scared of firing Vacar that they will just keep him there until he dies?

You really think they are afraid of lawyers? Half the on-air talent at FOX News Channel are lawyers so no big whoop.

And what real lawyer would represent himself in a TV contract?

When Vacar's contract is up...it will be reviewed...and a decision will be made .

If KTVU wants Vacar out...they will ask him to leave. They just won't renew his contract...easy peazy.

    No "Lawyer Threat" needed Rich,

    1. I have great respect for Tom Vacar's reporting, and impressive body of knowledge. He obviously puts much time and effort into researching a wide array of topics.

I don't think that highly of Fox.

However, I think that 6:46 is absolutely correct his/her assessment of the situation.

  4. Vacar needs to do the gentlemanly thing and quietly step aside.
It's the way of the world. We had our day in the sun, let the next generation get into the game. Don't be a roadblock under the threat of a lawsuit. That is not a healthy employee relationship.
The 'little people' will get even in passive and petty ways.
Tom will find out what I mean. At first he will think he's being
    Gaslighted.

  5. He is really fast on his feet during breaking news. A true asset to the station.

When you win the book, as so often KTVU does, you do well to keep doin' what works. It's what kept a teletype SFX under the 10 o'clock news well into the 1990's...decades after the teletype was replaced by the dot matrix printer.

  6. To fit in, all he has to do is shave his legs and put on a dress!!

  7. One day we might see all current long time reporters getting replaced by someone younger with cheaper pay based on age and experience or a newly hired.

  8. Tom Vacar is a Solid, and Conscious Reporter... Awhile back he did a Story on a Consumer Affair Report, & I wanted to know more about it, so I called him, & left a message. Tom returned my call back personally, in my book Mr. Vacar is a Good Man to have done that, because he didn't have to.

    1. I worked with T.V. Tommy Vacar at KGO. He will hand on for awhile because he is a world class brown noser.

You're So Vain! I'll bet you think this Network's about you,
    Don't you?"

  10. Fox probably doesn't want additional bad press...so they'll just "not renew" when his contract is up. This way, they can avoid any legal hassles.

  11. @1:15 PM - MY point is that T.V. will stick around for awhile
because he is a top notch ass kisser who will throw others under the bus for his own protection. Call me a hater, but I've seen it first hand.
